Takes a lot of experimentation
I read a lot of reviews & watched a lot of videos about this product & despite the overall consensus that it doesn’t work very well, I tried it out anyway. I’ve got some notes. Just FYI, I tried this with Talens Art Creation watercolors (not the highest quality, I know) so the results might have been different if I used nicer paints. • When I used as directed & mixed this in with my watercolors, that’s when I got the least amount of visible granulation. • The method I use (pictured) is to place the paint down onto the paper & wait until it gets damp, then I take a pipette & place a drop or two wherever I want there to be texture. If the paint is still super watery, this method will not work because it dilutes the solution so much so that the granulation is barely noticeable. • My method most often achieves a cauliflower/bloom effect, which I’m a fan of, though I understand that not everybody is a fan of that kind of texture. • I also tried this with Himi jelly gouache paints & ink from Posca acrylic markers. After watering these mediums down a little & mixing it in directly with them, they do look a bit sandy/grainy. • This probably goes without saying but if you already have paints that granulate, this solution elevates them to a whole other level & I love that. Overall, I’m giving this 3.5 to 4-ish stars because I really like the effect that my paints get when I drop the granulation medium on top of damp paint. It probably would have gotten 1 star if I kept using it as directed because I felt as though the granulation was hardly noticeable that way. I have watercolors that naturally granulate on their own & was hoping that this product would yield a similar appearance to those if used on regular watercolors. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, but I’m not mad at it. It’s okay, though I probably won’t be purchasing again. It’s a little expensive for what it does. Fun to experiment with though.

Bottle
It is my first masking fluid, so I can't compare. Fluid dried around the top edge which broke the seal and then spilled when the capped bottle fell over. It has a yellow tint so it was easy to see on the paper. I did not leave it on the paper overly long and it was pretty easy to remove. I was not using 100% cotton paper.

Amazing product
Made my project so much easier! Really works and will continue to purchase this product.

Loooooove this product!
This product is amazing - it can add a very subtle effect or layered on, it’s a fabulously shimmery. I probably use more of it than I should, but I’m on my 4th bottle and have no plans on removing it from my every day use!

It's Like Butterfly Wing Dust!
The media could not be loaded. I am so glad that I took a chance on adding this in with my watercolors! The way the irredescence shines through the color is fantastic, and the way that it blends and smoothly flows through pigment makes for excellent blooms. A little bit goes a long way! I originally got this for space and galaxy painting, but have been finding myself adding it to every piece from large, roving spirals of sparkle to fine details. All in all, it is absolutely wonderful! Highly recommend! (ps—Added a quick video because I didn't realize that it would be so difficult to photograph the shiny!)

Just what I wanted
Works great for achieving the Bokeh effect without tearing the paper. It would have gotten five stars IF it came in a larger size. $10 for such a small bottle is still worth it but I won't be using it as much as I would like.

best masking fluid I have ever used
Works well with easy lift-off when no longer needed.

Does the trick
This masking fluid seems to do the trick. This is my first purchase of such a substance for my paintings. It seems to work well for watercolors. It will turn a light yellow color, where you put it. Helps in seeing where it is when you go to remove it (especially if you have really white paper). A few things to note: It is quite liquid-y and runny. This is great if you plan to fling it about, as I did on a couple of paintings. Where I attempted to be a bit more cautious with my placement, it seemed to run a bit too much for my liking. I work flat with my watercolors, but if you work more upright, this could be a bigger issue. It really, REALLY, stinks. My bottle has a bit of a fun, dead fish, smell. Not pleasant. It really doesn't linger, which is a good thing. It WILL ruin any brush you use!!!! Do NOT use a good one. I don't care how fast you clean it out, you won't get this stuff out of the bristles. I used a wonky old thing to begin with, and am glad I did. Cotton swabs seemed to work okay, as well. Hope that helps someone. I plan to try other types/brands in the future. I would really like to compare. Also find something that is thicker in viscosity. Enjoy your painting!

Not really effective
When you mix it with non-granulating watercolor instead of water you expect some serious granulation. This was not my experience. Dropping it by pipette into a wet wash does cause granulating runs but that may not be what you want.

Cool stuff for special effects
I was trying to give a more painterly texture to my gouache work, and this did the trick. Excellent quality, which is what you would expect from W&N. Behaves as advertised. Kind of pricey for the amount you get, and you can go through a lot if you want strong impasto effects. But if you want to work in this niche this is the stuff you want.
