Metal plate on top not perfect
Overall, the bee hotel looks good and sturdy. But there is an issue when I unbox it out from the delivery. The metal plate on the top of the bee hotel comes with some stain and part of it popped up a little. I tried to clean the stain with a tissue paper. It came up a little bit but you can see that it’s still there. I don’t know how to clean it thoroughly. For the popped up part, there is nothing I can do. Is it possible for you to send me just the metal plate so that I can replace it? Thanks.

It works! Bees have started moving in!
The media could not be loaded. After only a week and a half, bees are moving in! The craftsmanship is a little lacking, taking it apart will be a pain, but thankfully I only will need to do that once or twice a year. It is very cute, aesthetically pleasing and has that nice cedar smell! Out of all the options available on here, this one is by far the best in terms of keeping the bees happy and safe! (And in price)

Well made, easily taken apart for cocoon removal
Like how it comes apart. Right out of the box I soaked with boiled linseed oil (except actual cells). Will fill screw holes with bees wax. As with all my birdhouses, roofs need extra care especially when south facing. I have all different types of houses, most with straws. Ordered another similar house. Will see how it compares. Total organic gardening. Place all boxes in mesh bags on porch when muddied over so critters don’t get them. Will open early fall to remove and clean cocoons and store in garage fridge. This house will make it easier than the straws

Very nice (with caveats)
So, of course I took it apart and measured all the holes. I had my son carve a few of them deeper to approach 5" when they were shallow. I do wish the overall footprint was a bit larger to make them 5+ inches readily. Also, the top row of holes (the 'penthouse') cannot be opened (I anticipated this, no issue there) but they were only about 2 1/2" deep. This may be due to roof hardware. My son tried to drill them deeper with only partial success. I guess those will produce only males. I added silicone to the small screws exposed on the roof that attach the roof to the angled roof supports. Anyway, none of that seems to matter to the bees. You can see we slung the nesting box below using rubber bands on the wingnuts, and we have had action by both mason and leaf-cutter bees! As new bee-tenders (not much 'keeping' needed) I like the option of being able to check on the health of the cocoons and possibly (some day) cleaning and wintering them inside. Although in my climate, that shouldn't be necessary; I will probably let them go through winter outside in their semi-protected spot and see how it goes without much intervention the first year. The design is very attractive. The copper atop the peak is adorable as well as functional. It is easy to unscrew the wingnuts to separate the 'floors'. Overall I think this house was a good choice with the flexibility to be as involved as we want to be.

The real thing!
I normally research things before I buy them, but I bought a really cute mason bee house at Home Depot. When I got home and decided to read up on them , I discovered that it was neither safe nor practical for the bees and their offspring. The depth of the box needs to be 6 inches not three to protect them. So I returned the house and bought this real one on Amazon. It’s the correct depth , well made and comes apart for cleaning. The other one was more of a bird buffet. I want the mason bees for my garden.

Great house
The good: The house is great..I do believe I'll get another when this one fills. Unlike many, the roof is an actual roof that is large enough to protect the bees - and they covered the roof joint with metal so it won't leak in a year. The trays come apart easily for end of season cleaning and multiple units can be hung 'stacked' on top of each other for a pretty neat bee hotel. Beyond that, the holes are cleanly drilled (unlike the ones you buy and then have to spend an hour fixing to make it usable), and it's made with FSC. After purchasing a few mason bee homes and looking at many more, I'm happy to have found a winner. The bad: I took off one star for this.. it is a relatively minor flaw, but given the quality of everything else the house offers, as well as the fact that I ~bought~ a house so I wouldn't have to pull out the tools, it was unfortunate.. The house has only a tiny hook for hanging in the center of the back. With this, it's very difficult to hang the house flush or remotely so, instead it leans forward significantly. (A slight lean would be okay as it would further the roof's protection, but this is not slight). Additionally, given the tiny hook, it doesn't take much to knock the house off its perch. I ultimately had to add two new hooks - one on each side of the back - before hanging flush and secure. I still really like it though and everything else is great enough that I would buy it again despite this.

Great quality
Was looking for a bee house to add to our pollinator garden and this was a great addition. It is a good size and the price was right!

So great, I bought a second one - and it's already being used
Here is a photo of the two hives in situ. The second one has only been up 2-3 weeks and is already being filled. The first one is almost full. The activity is amazing. I'd love to buy a third, but that would begin to get too expensive. However, if you want to be enthralled, buy this hive and put it in a sunny spot and just wait... it'll soon be attracting mason bees and other solitary bees. We will have 48 larvae homes filled by the end of July! This is a great little product and the bees love it. It will also ensure lots of pollinators for your garden next year. Once filled and plugged, the hive stays the way it is until Spring. The male bees come out first (and wait for the females), as their larvae was laid near the entrance. The larvae of the female bees are at the back of each 'home' and emerge a little later. The male and females mate and then the whole process starts again.

Help the environment
Excellent product that the bees love. Last year the bee hotel provided cocoons as seen in the picture. I harvested them and kept in fridge over winter and have today brought them outside to hatch. I will be buying another as these hatchlings will need more accommodation this summer. They return to the spot where they hatch. Harvesting them removes them from insect preditores.

The bees like this!
I've included some photos showing a visit from a bee laying her eggs. Lucky timing! As you can see there are some other holes that had already been visited and used for egg laying by other bees. By the end of the summer we had 7 holes used and sealed by the bees with leaves. I'm over wintering the hive in the garage and have a reminder on the back of the front door to bring outside again in late Feb! Then fingers crossed those precious tunnels should produce some new bees. Really pleased with the product, it's well made and the bees like it. We had another solitary bee hive right next to this one - the type that is a sawn log with chanelled out bamboo canes and we didn't get a single taker. So on behalf of the bees I would recommend this one.

MADE IN CHINA!!!
Researched a lot to find a bee house that was environmentally sound and went on this company's website to check it out. Was taken in by their video showing their workshop in rural Gloucestershire, where they designed and manufactured their products, providing jobs for local families and where they seemed to care about the environmentp. When this arrived I see it says on the box"MADE IN CHINA". Why??? I feel lied to and deceived. Shipping products from the other side of the world when they could easily be made here is NOT helping the environment! And £25 seemed pricey but I thought I was paying for what I was told on the video. I wouldn't have paid more than £10 for a mass produced product from China! Beware this company!

Help Bees
I was delighted with this little Bee Hive, I have now bought 7 in total. I have given some as presents and the people I have given them to are also delighted with them. They are well constructed of good quality wood. They arrived well packed with instructions on how to assemble (which is quite easy). They are for Solitary Bees and they will come each year (mine have been re-used now for 3 years). The Bees will plug the holes after filling them. Solitary Bees are not aggressive and you just leave the hives over winter and then the little bees will eat their way out of the plugged holes in spring. You have to be careful because woodpeckers, wasps and spiders will attack the hives if left in the open. The hives need to be on a south facing wall, fence or shed and need a bush or small tree in front of them to partly hide them from the woodpeckers. We have wire mesh over one of ours to protect it but make sure the holes in the wire are big enough for the Bees to get through but small enough so that the woodpecker's beak can not get to the holes, some chicken wires are perfect for this job.
