Works great, handles almost anything..
We had a fallen tree, plus some tree work coming up. Kind of ruined my elbow splitting last year, time to act my age and get a log splitter. I settled on this one due to good reviews, and because of the stand. Ironically, once it arrived I decided against the stand. Like others have said, the unit is really heavy, and putting it up on a stand seemed like it would make it harder to get around, and would take up more room in my shed. Plus, my log rounds are on the ground, why pick them up just to have them fall on the ground again? I usually sit on a bucket, works fine. I put it on a picnic table once, others have mentioned the tailgate of a truck. Couple of thoughts. Make sure you loosen the bleed screw before using. I've forgotten a couple of times, I need to tie a big bow onto it or something until it becomes a habit. It also uses more hydraulic fluid than I expected. Not tons, but I end up adding a little before most uses. It's hard to see on the dipstick, I put it on a paper towel or rag just to make sure it's up near the line. The thumb screw to shorten the return is really not great, wish I had a better solution for it. Wheels are undersized, I'd like to change them out, but don't think the axle sticks far enough out to replace them with something from Harbor Freight. You can move it around, it just takes a bit of effort. Not a deal breaker. I use it with the Wen pedal switch, frees up one hand to guide some of the more stubborn logs. You need to use common sense and be careful, but it does help. You need to clamp down the on/off switch, and then plug into the pedal switch. As for the unit itself, very happy with its performance. Photo speaks for itself. Some of that is Osage Orange, a very hard wood that splits better when green. I pulled some pretty dry ones off an old pile and it split those also, no problem. It has a bit of trouble with rounds with knots or curves. It still splits, but kind of shreds along the way. You can usually get it to work by repositioning, or by doing a side at a time. If it's too stubborn, just toss it, not worth the time. I only had a couple of those over the course of several days. Once in a while with dry wood, the pieces go shooting off to the side at a pretty good clip, best to stand near the rear of the unit, another reason for the foot pedal switch. All in all, a good purchase, I would definitely buy again. Update: Doesn't use as much fluid as I said, needed to replace washer on dipstick. Pressure release handle has broken twice, replaced it with a roundish one from Ace Hardware that doesn't have edges to break off. Yesterday the plastic handle broke as I was putting it away, hoping customer service will replace. Unit is too heavy for the plastic to support. Still a great machine, gets the job done.

Pretty Nice for a cheap splitter
This could be a possibly a 5 star review however I’m reluctant to do so just yet. I received the machine yesterday and used it once and only time & usage will tell how good this really is or isn’t. For a “made in china” unit, I am still skeptical but overall the quality of the machine looks to be better than I expected. It is definitely 1 notch above a harbor freight tool. Fingers crossed. The manufacturer also seems to be US based which is a positive. Assembly was fairly easy. The stand is a tad flimsy but adequate. I set this up and started splitting up some larger pieces of wood that were already split so I can’t comment on how large of a diameter it’ll handle. I needed smaller pieces for kindling and smaller pieces of fuel for my (small) stove. It handled everything nicely. The electric seems powerful enough thus far and I really like not stinking of gasoline engine exhaust, despite my love and desire for old cars, etc.. So far my only complaint is the safety interlock. You have to engage the electrical switch with one hand and the hydraulic control valve with the other. Unless you have abnormally massive hands, it’s near impossible to operate it one handed. I ordered the foot pedal switch which might make things easier; I’ll still need to hit the switch with foot and activate the hydraulic valve but one hand will be free. We’ll see how this turns out. Lastly, I’ve found the edge plates to be not big enough. When I split a piece, one half kept falling down the backside of the machine. It required me to keep stopping, walk behind the machine to retrieve the piece, and then put back on the splitter bed. Overall, not THAT big of a deal; just a little annoying. There’s a YouTube video that was really helpful in my decision to buy this. The creator also made their own table extension so logs don’t fall back behind the machine. I plan to make one similar as I have access to sheet metal, bending jigs and drills. Look up “Wen 6.5 ton log splitter Review / Mods” by YouTube user “OldSoulMillennial”. Only time will tell of its longevity. Hope this helps.

My mind has been changed!!!!
How could an electric splitter work as well as a gas splitter? Well, it definitely tries to measure up. First, the "rated" wood log size is not accurate. If you know what you're doing, you can far exceed the rated size. This thing really made me eat my words about electric splitters. My only complaint is I wish the base were wider. Given the narrow profile, any log that is in anyway od shaped or kind of lopsided will make it very unstable. I'm thinking I'll have a base built for it and weld it to a heavy sled of some kind.

Very good splitter for it's size
Splitter is relatively quick and splits better than my older unit that died (not WEN brand). I only gave it 4 stars for 2 things, one is WEN's problem, the other is not. WEN's issue is that the feet are too close together, so it's a little wobbly. Oh, and I did not use the stand, it looks like disaster waiting to happen, but I was never planning to use it anyway. Second issue is, I'm sure, gov regulations - the 2-handed usage. I can only imagine what they expect me to steady the log with, but I won't go into that. The cure is simple - take an elastic cord loop, the one with the ball on the end that's used on a tarp and place it around the axle, now stretch the cord over the handle. More than enough tension to keep the handle down. Now you can use the splitter the way God intended. Push the button with one hand and steady the log with the other. When split let go of the button and lift the handle to release the ram. Nice part is when the ram has retracted enough just release the handle and the cord pulls it back down and stops the ram. Much easier to use that that less than useless collar on the front of the unit.

Fast and powerful.
Very powerful little unit. Splits all my logs up to 10" in size with ease. I did use a clamp on the power button to free up on hand to load and unload wood. I added the foot switch as well. Split a wagon full of wood in under 5 min. Best item I have bought in years.
