GREAT PRODUCT!!
I bought this because I needed to cut a hole in a plastic tub (I was making a shelter for feral cats). The instructions were very simple & it worked great!!

Good beginner burner
This is a great beginning tool as this is my first time using one and have found it very easy. I like the different tips that come with this burner and have enjoyed trying them out to see how they work. My only critique, now that I've used it heavily for a few months, is the temperature knob built into the cord. I feel it's too close to the actual tool. I end up having to hang onto the cord with my left hand when I'm using the burner in my right hand. The reason being, the temperature knob is just heavy enough that if it slides off the surface I'm working on, it will make the tool jump and could affect the line I'm drawing. It also gets caught on the edges of the pieces I'm working on so I'm constantly having to lift it up and over. This may not sound like a big deal, but when you are really focused and your piece is looking good, a jolt or bump because the temperature knob falls off the edge or gets caught is a bit frustrating. If the knob was farther away from the tool, I'm guessing this wouldn't be an issue. I don't need the knob that close because I never adjust it. At some point I might look for an upgrade tool and I would look at this feature to see where it's placed on the cord. This is the only reason, but a big enough one for me, that I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars.

Need a new cord design
The temperature control on the power cord makes it difficult to handle. The weight pulls down on the tool.

Walnut Hollow's Creative Versa-tool
For the most part I bought this for pyrography (or woodburning) which is a method of writing and drawing into wood with high temperatures. But there are a bunch of other woodburners out there, why did I buy this one? Well, this one comes with adjustable tips (And boy, do I love my adjustable tips!) for other jobs such as soldering, hot-knife cutting, image transfers and stamping, as well as some lead-free solder, which I appreciate since I was shopping for solder at the time, too. What did I expect it to do? Well, it was pretty cheap, it was meant to be, I think, a tool for beginners and that's exactly what I was looking for. I read some past reviews that complained about the tips breaking off and the temperature control not working and I was definitely hesitant to buy it for those reasons. 'Beginner's tool' should not be synonymous with 'shoddy tool'. It's been a couple of months since I bought it and after a long waiting period (I had to buy a step-down voltage converter since this is a tool from the US and I live in the UK) I got around to using it and I've used it a fair bit since. To address the complaints mentioned before: Thus far I haven't had a tip break on me and, although it does take a few minutes to heat up, the temperature control has been working perfectly (Or at least, it's been working - It's a yellow-orange-red scale so I'm not sure what the specific temperatures are supposed to be, but it's definitely hotter at red than it is at yellow). The tool stand it comes with is a bit minimalist, but it does the job and it comes with everything it's advertised to have, as well as a little guide for using the different tips, which is a nice little bonus. The case is also really good quality, nice clear and fairly tough plastic. One thing I'm confused by is the little plastic squares that come with it, what are they for? Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase, it does my woodburning stuff and other things that I haven't found my own use for yet (But I like having the option there, boredom won't go away on it's own), it's fun and easy to use, great tool for a beginner, and I'm hoping it'll take me past that, too. I think it could be improved by adding some sort of indicator to tell whether it's on or not, nothing too fancy, just a little LED would do fine, but, again, I'm happy with it.

Really good starting piece
I got help from someone that is very into wood burning before buying this because the reviews for these are SO confusing - I read so many before buying this. The person recommended this one as a good one to start with and I would suggest the same to others since it's not too expensive. I really debated this purchase, so am including a long review for others like me that read everything and worry about what to purchase. This works well. I've had it for a month or so, used it about 4 - 5 times. The instructions clearly state that you need to LET IT COOL before you change tips and this is very true. I got impatient one day and tried to change while hot (with pliers - always change with pliers to avoid burns!) and one got stuck - lesson learned. I had to take the pen down to a clamp I have attached to a work bench in my garage to get the power to unscrew it - even after it was cooled- it was really stuck. So if you do start out using this - WAIT until the piece is cool before attempting to change the points - I will not make that mistake again. READ the instructions that come with the tool - they are really clear and helpful. Those that reviewed to say it was ruined by a stuck point likely tried to change while hot - not the product's fault in most cases would be my guess. The pen cools down and heats up relatively quickly (and by that I mean between 4 - 5 minutes). I'm learning that this craft takes patience and practice. The person that helped me with this purchase also indicated that the type of wood you use is critical to success - lots of great pieces available at your local dollar store and at Michaels (in Canada anyway). Use light coloured wood with little grain (basswood recommended). NEVER burn something with paint or varnish on it because it turns to smoke that you're breathing in which is unsafe. Using wood from your backyard isn't going to work as well because it's wet (due to sap) and likely has a larger wood grain. I like that this pen doesn't have a long point - so it's like using a large pencil. Others I looked at seemed like the point would be really far away from your fingers, therefore harder to control. My two boys (ages 10 and 12) have tried this too - under close supervision and did fine. The part your hand holds gets very slightly warm - not hot at all even after 40 minutes of use from my experience. But the tip does get SUPER hot - would cause severe burns if handled incorrectly. Again - really carefully reading the instructions and following them (they suggest taping the pen rest to the surface - I do this every time) is very wise to ensure it's enjoyable and safe.

Mostly great. With one or two adjustments.
Awesomeness. Great little set that has lots of tips to try, some of them really help with shading, others help you keep a straight line. I'm loving this little kit so far, apart from two things: the dial pad is too closely located to the burn tool on the wire. It makes for awkward handling with it's weight and I find the dial pad gets caught on the edge of the table frequently. It's a little scary since I am handling a heated element. Not sure why they couldn't just push the pad a bit further away on the cord... My husband said he can fix it. If not, I may buy a better designed tool simply for this one reason. Also you'd be wise to have an extension cord close by and a pair of teethed pliers to change out the tips if you don't have them in the house already. This way you can change out the tips without waiting for the tool to completely cool off. The reason for the extension cord, my table is only 2 feet from the wall where the plugin is and the cord is barely long enough to use. I find the tool wants to be pulled down off the table without the extra length of cord that allows me to put more of it on the table so that I'm not fighting gravity whilst straining to design intricate details. Obviously this is more of a beginner tool (and a great one at that), but it still could have been a bit better designed.

After a few minutes of usage, the pen stopped working. Got disappointed a lot. Shipment is real fast. but so bad the product is a waste

The heat regulator is the game changer
If a burning tool is something that will be used for precision, then get this one, hands down, the best for the money and never disappoints. This is my second purchase. The first one I bought 20 years ago and still use constantly but need a second to quicken my art process. The first one is still as solid as day one. The heat regulator I adjust all the time for my fine-tune purposes.
