Cool Tool, Just Not the Best at Edging
Let me say that this is a very neat tool, it's just not the best at edging. As long as you follow the instructions, the tool is fairly easy to put together. Once you get it put together, using it is pretty easy. I think that this tool has a lot of potential as a paint roller for small spaces. I used it to paint my closet ceiling after I took the popcorn off and it did a good job getting the paint on. I liked how I didn't have to keep using a messy rolling tray. Refilling the paint was very easy. I also did not have any paint drips as long as I did not overload the roller. As far as edging though, I would say that the tool is mediocre. The little brush on the edge of the roller did not get completely to the edge and it was hard to get enough paint on it so that it did not leave brush stroked/lines. I wonder if the brush was made with maybe foam if it would be better. After one use painting the ceiling, this particular roller did hold up without any leaks. I did have one that I bought from Lowe's that started leaking from the handle. The manufacturer had said it was defective. Since I do not have a sink with the right nosel to attack the paint roller to, clean up took a while. It probably took 10-15 min of constant cleaning to get the paint almost all the way out.

I wouldn't bother wasting your money
I purchased this item, as I also bought the larger one for painting the walls. That product lasted much longer than this and was far better to use. I saw both of these products, this one specifically, being reviewed by someone on instagram whilst thinking in my mind the day prior of repainting my bathroom--funny how these social media platforms can read your mind and serve you an ad that's particularly about what your thoughts are. The Instagram reviewer said its as perfect for edging. I have textured walls, and if you've ever painted textured walls and don't want it to bleed through the painters tape, you know how much of a pain in the butt it is. So I was drawn to this product, plus I believed it was going to make edging easier around the molding and such. Wrong. The guard and the small little brush on the edger gets in the way and just causes paint to get in the place you want it, and where you don't. I honestly used this for about two runs and said the hell with it. It was much easier and faster to do it the traditional way and forego shortcutting with what I interpreted was modern day technology. Stick to what ain't broke, folks. I would recommend the larger wall painter though. That proved to be useful and sped up the process quite a bit. I purchased that at Home Depot, as they were out of the edger product.

Great Device, Just Master It's Use
I have somewhat hesitant to give this 4 starts, but I"ll explain. I used this one device to trim a dining room, living room, office, bedroom, hallway, and two bathrooms. #1 you have to practice for a few minutes to get it rolling properly and the paint to evenly coat. Then you can start to do trim. It is excellent on window & door trim, anyone who argues otherwise is not using it properly. I also used it to carefully do the trim at the ceiling. If you can master this, it is much faster than cutting and people say it looks professionally done (and I didn't use tape). If you use it on your bottom wall/wood trim you MUST use tape, I'd rather use a brush on the bottom. #2 You must clean it very well. If you don't clean it well w/ hot water and thinner, it won't be re-usable. Also you'll think its empty, but it still has old paint in it, and when you add a new color, it will mix. It's a hassle to clean. Simply due to the mechanics of it, it is not designed to last a long time, and completely broke by my 3rd bathroom. I used this to paint my home and happy I did, it's just getting over how to effectively use this device. It always gives you a hard time when you first put new paint in it, but it'll work. * remember the little brushes on the side rotate so you can trim in different directions. Also buy extra paint rollers, you'll get two uses out of one.

I really liked this tool!
I bought this last year for my old house. I had it painted for me but provided the tools to get the jobs done (painted many colors including a 20' cathedral area). My guy absolutely loved it. We were using Valspar with the primer already in it. My daughter's room was painted in shiny acrylic (never again with the acrylic paint!): purple, teal and a really blue blue. He used it around the walls and along the trim. I came up and saw the job and was quite pleased. I moved and wanted to get rid of the orange walls. I decided to do all of the edging and have my guy do the painting. I could not use it next to the ceiling because I have a bumpy plaster ceiling. We used 2 gallons of Home Depot paint + primer and had the majority of the job done in a little over 5 hours. It's not a perfect tool, but I have to say it cut down work by half, maybe even more, the time it took to paint this pretty larger room (wtih higher than normal ceilings again). Sometimes, yes, you can see the previous color right next to the trim. I had a small paint brush with me for that purpose. And if I made a mistake with the brush, I also had a damp washcloth with me. I didn't have any giant messes, but then, I didn't pump a lot of paint into the roller either. If I did (rare), I used a super soft touch. I also didn't have any problems with the pump. We used a brush to wipe off excess paint, just like we used a brush when pouring paint into the roller tray. I haven't yet changed the roller. Maybe that's a problem. For me, it's nearly worth it to go out and buy a new Smart Edge Roller, if I had to get a new roller. Because I loved this product that much. This is my first review (positive; I did complaint about a different product once). LJ

Automatic paint roller
An extremely eas -to- use-tool that is both labour-saving and saves much time for the job in hand. I can definitely recommend this product as an indispensable addition to your home decorating tool kit.

Worst buy. Doesn't serve the pure. Don't fall for it's advertisement
Worst product at high price. I have watched YouTube videos and believed on this product. I bought this one and a bigger size one. Both were useless and I lost money on them as it was not able to return. The seller didn't pick the item it was global purchase. Product review : it doesn't hold paint. It wastes lot of paint. And not easy to wash the product. Product will be spoilt by first use itself.

Easy to use and it works! No taping off
Love it. Works well if you read instructions and double check YouTube etc. Quite easy to use with the wall protector. Painted a kitchen ceiling edge (including round an extractor fan) very quickly, no taping off at all. It doesn't reach right into corners leaving about an inch square which needs touching up with a brush (which I screwed up!). So maybe lesson learnt is to tape and brush the corner first and then do the edges. Rest of ceiling with a normal roller but still used this small one near the spotlights as easier control.

Not as good as described
It made a really messy line working with thick emulsion paint. It might be better with thin paint, but nothing mentioned in instructions. Cleaning thoroughly this tool took around 30 min using warm tap water and Fairy. Reluctant to use this tool again as used always yellow Frog tape, just take it off when still wet and paint line is perfect. Second trial after 4 weeks. Tried it once again with thinned emulsion and result was as bad as before. No sharp paint line achieved between two different colours. looking deeper in the idea of construction of this paint roller there is no doubt why is not making desirable result. It's simply stupid! It will never make a good sharp line. I can say that being 20 years in the building business. Verdict: it's been packed back and wait to be given away for free to some other tradesmen or enthusiast painter to try it out. Not for me. I have ordered Germany made clever thing which I found here on Amazon. Wonder what? I'll share my experience when I try it out.
