Has not worked yet. Not for use on large conical mounds!
The media could not be loaded. If you have the kind of moles that make large conical mounds, this one is not for you. It is a well built product and is easy to set and use, although it takes a bit of hand and arm strength to set it. For example there is no way my wife could set it because the spring mechanism takes a lot of strength to get it set. This one probably will work in a lawn, however. My problem is one where I have this pesky mole (or moles) that make a huge conical mound yet their tunnels are at least 6" or more deeper in the soil. On top of that I have bark mulch of about two inches on top of the soil which is mostly clay. So this one will not penetrate deep enough, and it is of no use to try and set it where the conical mound is because my mole makes mounds that are literally almost a foot high! Plus there is no guarantee that he/she will be back to the same spot unless you can prove it is a main run and not just an exploration spot. Anyway, if you have the problem I have, I'd suggest going with the poison worms instead. I'm trying that now and will report the findings on that item once I've tested it well. UPDATE: I finally caught that mole but not with this one. Instead, I got it done with the Victor “out of sight” trap.

well made
But no luck on killing the mole

Too Narrow
The pegs that you plant into the ground could be wider apart, you have to position it almost perfectly to get the mole to travel thru the pegs/gate. Half the time the mole created a path around the trap because it ran into one of the pegs.

This is what works. It's all about placement
I have a large yard with several moles. I called a mole/pest removal company. I hired them and paid 200.00 to have about a dozen traps set (yes, they used these exact traps which is why I ordered some for myself). Anyway, they had 30 days to trap moles in my yard. They also charged 69.00 for each mole they caught. They got 5 moles in that time. That may not seem like many, but if you read about moles, you'll find out they are not like mice or rats. They breed slowly and live alone. They reproduce once per year and maybe have 2-4 offspring of which maybe half will live in natural conditions. When you see an area or network of mole tunnels (your grass pushed up), that's just one mole... If you study the tunnels, you'll usually see it comes in from the edge of your yard where there may be more moisture (forest or wild area). You just need to look at the branching of the tunnels and find a few areas where you can guess the mole may be re-using that section to go back and forth. Once you locate a good spot, gently push the grass down to collapse the tunnel, and set the trap. Be sure to set the trap so the spikes that go in the ground (not the spikes that kill the mole) are not right in the middle of the mole tunnel. The idea (obviously) is to set the trap in an area the mole will try to use again. When the mole tries to fix the tunnel, bam! I just trapped my first mole today. I saw the spring of the trap was down, took the trap up, and the mole was dead underneath. This trap does work to kill the mole. You just need to put it in the right place and set it correctly. The guy who worked for the pest control company told me most of this and it really makes a difference. I'm here to buy a few more traps. I would suggest getting two traps for each distinct area you think there may be a mole. I plan to just keep rotating 4-6 traps until all the moles are gone. Update: 11/15. I've been using these traps for years now. I have 1.5 acres and currently have about a dozen of these traps. Each season I have to take care of 6-10 active tunnels. Here's another tip: When you see the trap has been triggered, before you pull up the trap to check for the mole, step down on the spike part of the trap. This will make sure you finish off the mole. Sometimes the trap merely pins the mole down, and if you remove the trap, the mole can sometimes squirm away. I don't want to guess whether I got the mole or not. I'd rather put the mole out of its misery rather than have him get away and die a slow death.

Hard to set
It was really hard for me to get them set. They worked, but its a fight to get them set. I am a woman who is not weak and it took several tries to get them to set finely.

OMG!! This thing WORKS!
I'm a 58 year old divorced woman (the ONLY "bad" thing about the divorce was that I no longer have my "mole killer" LOL!). I have 2+ acres of woods/bog with only about ½ acre of lawn/gardens (surrounded on three sides by said wood/bog). So yeah... Moles I got. In SPADES. Last year, I spent over $600 for a professional to come out and rid my yard of the moles. Yes, he caught 6, but it turned out to be $100 per mole!!! I wasn't going to spend that kind of money this year if I could help it... My ex left me the scissor traps but I can't get them to set right. Maybe he has them too sensitive, maybe I'm senile; but I fight with them for over ½ hour and just give up eventually. They either won't "catch" (set), or set and then spring the moment I try to flip the safety off. So, giving up on the "scissor type", I bought 2 traps on Amazon. This one (Victor Plunger style), and the Nash Choker Loop. Took the Choker Loop out of the box, read the instructions and thought it too confusing, and it required me to use brute strength (which I no longer have at my age). Figured I'd go find a video on how to set it and maybe that would help. I put it back in the box... Took the Plunger one out of the box, read the instructions, and had it set within MINUTES! No "strength" required, no worry about fingers getting chopped off, and it's easy to understand (pretty much just from the pictures). About 2 hours later, I had to go into the garage and went through the yard, just to "see" if maybe the trap was sprung (thought "no way" it would be, but didn't hurt to look). Hmmmmmmm... It appears sprung (WHERE'S THE SHOVEL???). Pulled the trap out of the ground, turned the run with the shovel, and O! M! G! I caught my first mole!!!!! YIPPPPPEEEEEE!!!! I did the "dead mole dance of joy!" Went to another active spot, and reset the trap. Again, using NO "strength", NO "worry" of crushed fingers, and all within a minute or two! I have been trying for TWO YEARS to use those scissor traps with no luck, and this one, right out of the box, caught a mole within an hour or two! So... Yeah. This gets 5 stars from me, and I HIGHLY recommend it to you women out there!!! If *I* can use this thing as EASILY and SUCCESSFULLY as I did, then YOU can too! You GO girls! Get them d@mn moles! UPDATE, 07/05/14: I'm now 2 for 2! Caught another this morning!

victor plunger mole trap
it works well but you have to be careful when setting, its well made and would be ideal for moles which are hard to catch and are in shallow runs.

Not easy to set but should work well if a mole surfaces beneath it.

Very disappointed the trigger is so insensitive the moles filled in ...
Very disappointed the trigger is so insensitive the moles filled in the hole around it without activating the trap, yet when I set it, it is only too happy to spring back at the slightest pressure

Take care!
This was the most expensive mole trap available so I thought it would be the most efficient. It was difficult to set and dangerous! I ended up with a painful thumb. I had also bought the Mole Claw trap. This I would recommend. The mole was caught within two days.
