It’s good but it definitely isn’t scent free.
It definitely reduces odor but it’s not odor free. You can smell there’s a dirty diaper inside within a few hours after depositing the diaper.

Great purchase
Love this trash can. Easy to use and keeps smell contained!

Easy to use
This is great for blocking out the dirty diaper scents. Wish there was a diagram included on how to put the bags in without them falling in and/or breaking the air seal but after a quick Google search we figured it out.

Easy to use and avoid odors on our room.
Bought this to have it on our room during the first few months. This is a great gadget to have to avoid those longs walks on late nights. It also helps a lot to capture any odors by locking the bags. Easy to handle with one hand on busy days.

Ubbi vs. Diaper Genie
I have 6 children so I've gone through a lot of diaper changes. I previously used the Diaper Genie Elite and was pretty satisfied with it because it held in the smell well, and was easy to use with the foot pedal for opening and closing. However, the Diaper Genies only last about 2 years, which is fine if you only have one child since they potty train at about 2. At about 2 years, one part or another would break on it, requiring replacement of the unit. So when my last one broke I contacted Playtex (the makers of Diaper Genie) and they gave me coupons good for $16 off of a new unit which was great, and I almost bought one except I was really sick of buying those expensive bags for it. So I looked into the Ubbi and, finding a good deal on Amazon, I went for it. I was a little bummed out that I had to open the diaper pail with my hands as opposed to having a foot pedal, but that wasn't such a big deal for me. I really wanted to like the Ubbi because it's an American company and it's not made of plastic. And it was great for about the first month but then it really started to stink. I tried adding baking soda to the bag. I tried using two bags each with baking soda in them. I tried spraying the can with Lysol when I threw out the trash. I tried using plastic shopping bags and changing the bags every other day. I even washed it thoroughly with dish soap and baking soda and let it completely dry out in our very dry climate. All to no avail. It just stinks! Pun intended. Even after I had just washed it, it still stunk. I finally tried using the left over bags I had from my Diaper Genie by simply tying a knot at the bottom and cutting off the appropriate length. And voila! It worked. So all along it was the pricey Diaper Genie bags that hold the smell in. Over all, the Ubbi is great because it's steel, it comes in great colors, and there's no flimsy plastic mechanism to break. However, their claim that you can use any ordinary trash bag is not true and it's expensive. I used the Member's Mark tall kitchen bags from Sam's club and they definitely don't work. Maybe a name brand trash bag like Hefty, or Glad would work better? This Ubbi pail will probably last longer than the plastic Diaper Genie, but you still have to use the Diaper Genie bags for odor control.

So much better than the diaper genie
I have twins and we had the diaper genie and hated it from the beginning, this is so much better

Great for 1-2 years, then you need to replace.
For those of you intending to use this for 1-2 children, you are probably ok, but if you are looking for extended use, either be prepared to replace after a couple of years or go with a different choice. I have had this diaper pail for just over 3 years, and I have 3 kids in diapers, so I put baby products through some testing. The pros with this can is its ease of use, it's a simple design, so it works without fail, can be used with standard garbage bags, I have always used the Ubbi bags myself, but have on occasion used standard garbage bags when I ran out of Ubbi bags, but I didn't like the fit as much as the Ubbi. The problem that I have experienced slowly overtime is the smell and mold growth in the can. The problem occurs because of the trapped moisture. If you have ever paid attention to a bag of diapers, due to the contents of the bag, moisture will develop, and that is not sealed off to the top portion of the can (area where the door opens to deposit diapers). There are some difficult to clean areas there, and over time rust and mold have developed...and the smell is awful. We are on our last child with diapers and I would love to not spend the money on a new can, but I'm at the point where it is just time to replace. I have tried to air it out a few times outside, but that doesn't really help. We try to be super quick when opening/closing the door to deposit a diaper, but the smell still lingers for several minutes. Also, compared to the Arm & Hammer pail, you are exposed to a lot more smell when changing the bag each time. Note, we do put a new bag in almost every day to the amount of use, so the issue we have experienced is not due to diapers sitting in there for days, it has just occurred slowly overtime. See pictures to see affected areas of the can. You will also notice the moisture on the inside of the lid that causes the rust.

Can't use your foot to open
Have to have a free hand to open the top and then too often it is left open -- Both hands are really needed to manage the baby and dump the diaper -- not a desirable feature for me.

Chocking hazard possibility
My daughter was born on June 1, 2021 and since that time the Ubbi Bin has been tending our needs. The item is well designed and highly functional—a gift to the realm of a new baby in the home. However, there is a design flaw or quality control issue which is potentially fatal. When my daughter was 10 months of age, I noticed while changing her diaper (the changing area is on the floor) that she had something in her hand. It was was the Ubbi logo--shown in 2 images included in this review. Seeing her with this item in her hand was upsetting and scary as such an item is a chocking hazard for an infant. I feel we were lucky that there was no incident requiring medical intervention. There is no need for such a logo on the bin, particularly as there is a logo on the top of the bin. If a logo on the front is considered necessary, the logo should not be something that can come off on its own. Note my daughter did not pull the logo off as she cannot reach it from the nappy changing area. I notified Ubbi of this issue. The company was responsive and sent me a new diaper bin. However, the design and construction of the diaper bin was defended. Via Ubbi Customer Engagement: “Rest assured we have produced hundreds of thousands of diaper pails since 2011 without this issue, so it is most definitely an isolated incident. While we do understand your upset at the positioning of the logo, but we chose that particular logo and placement as we want to ensure our pail is properly identified and has recognizable branding.” What is of concern to me is that the Ubbi logo is not adequately attached to the pail--not that the logo exists and is placed where it is. The lack of adhesion of the logo is what needs to be explored by the proper parties and ultimately fixed. The reason I wrote Ubbi was so that the logo falling off would not happen to another family. In the end, it is just luck as to whether or not the detached logo ends up in an infant's mouth with whatever repercussions. Fortunately, nothing bad happened to my daughter. All that said, it is easy to remove the logo and thus not worry about a potential injury. Buyer be(a)ware.

Sooooo worth the money!!!
Definitely worth the money! I almost bought one of the cheaper ones on the market that you have to buy specialty bags for but this was a much better option since you can use it with any trash bag! You end up saving money in the long run! It’s so easy to use and easy to clean my husband loves it and thinks it’s the best investment ever. I read bad reviews regarding the scent but mine has never smelled bad which we change ours often almost every other day or two days. And we use doggie bags for really smelly diapers to insure the smell doesn’t get out. All in all a must have baby item!

Excellent for nappy disposal.
This item is one of those where if you have the funds to pay more so, then do it. However, it is at the end of the day a nappy bin. As a first time parent I went with the best recommended on the market through reviews and this was one of them and I agree with all the other reviewers. It locks any bad smells within the bin itself, you don’t need to use nappy bags with it so can save money that way if you wish, and has a lock so little hands can’t go diving in it. It stores an incredible amount of nappies in it so you don’t need to empty all the time, so I would recommend

Buy £2.50 angel bin - way better!!
Threw it away. Difficult to use, leaked, smelled and real hassle to get the bag out and a pain to put a new bag in. What a waste of money. Can't believe I trusted other reviews and paid a gobsmacking £70 for a plastic bin. I've since started using the Angel bin which was £2.50!!!! And came with 3 rolls!! And is MILESSS easier to use. Saves so much time and just works way better than this expensive piece of plastic. PLEASE SAVE YOUR WELL EARNED MONEY.

It seems great, until you notice the rust
I so want to love this bin. It’s brilliant at keeping smells locked in and looks great but it’s got a major design flaw: the bottom rim, the thing that sits in the bathroom floor, is made of metal, no rubber rim like my other bin. And that means, in a damp bathroom, with a bin that requires cleaning every time it’s emptied, rust.. lots of rust. I now have a collection of large rust rings in my light grey bathroom tiles. Normal cleaning products don’t touch them. Please Ubbi, reconsider the design and add a rubber ring to the base. I’m now looking for an alternative but it’s really hard to find an odourless nappy bin that doesn’t individually wrap each nappy up (we’re using washable nappies so using a bag per nappy liner kind of defeats the object). I want to stick with the Ubbi, but it’s basically ruined my bathroom floor.
