Got me hooked on tie-dying!
I love this kit! It was very easy to use and turned out to be a lot of fun. After the first kit, I bought several more to practice the art and share it with my friends through tie-dye parties. Having gone through 3 full kits (and made a few mistakes), I have some tips to share to maximize your success: Wondering what kit to buy? If you get just 1, I would recommend "carousel" because this has the darkest colors that give the most "vibrant" results. If you get 2 kits, "carousel" plus "rainbow" gives you 10 different colors, therefore the greatest choice when you are making your shirts. Unfortunately, you can only get orange if you buy the "luau" or "neon" kits. For some reason, the 5-bottle kits are the cheapest per gram of dye (cheaper than the refill kits that don't even have bottles). Wait for them to go on sale, the price on Amazon varies a lot from one week to the next. Can you really get 30 shirts from one kit? Yes. But they won't be 30 adult 2XL. And you have to plan ahead--use all of the colors in the kit, dilute some of the colors, and catch the drips in a basin to re-use. I usually dye a half-and-half mix of adult and child shirts together and end up with 30 from a full kit. Can you dilute the colors? Yes, some are very amenable to dilution. Some of the best looking items I have made are serial dilutions of just a single color. These colors tolerate dilution very well: black, purple, turquoise. These colors tolerate a modest amount of dilution: blue, fuchsia, violet, lime, royal blue. These colors don't dilute well (don't bother trying): red, orange, yellow, teal. I do the dilutions in glass jars and use a plastic funnel to get the dye back into the bottle. Best dye technique. Put the tip of the bottle in contact with the shirt before you squeeze. Put the tip in between the folds. After you think you are finished with the piece, check between the folds to make sure that you don't see white; if you do, go back and dye the insides of the folds. After wrapping in cling-wrap, squeeze the piece--this also reduces excess white. Dye should not be dripping off of the piece or staining your gloves--if so, you are using too much dye. Finishing the piece. The directions on the kit say to wait a couple of hours to let the dye set. This is not a good idea. If you only wait a couple of hours, you will lose most of your dye down the drain and you will be shocked at how light and faded your piece looks. Much better to use the basic principles of chemistry to your advantage: remember, time and concentration drive the reaction forward, so wait as long as you can, and then lay the piece out to dry without washing. I wait a week, then spread the pieces out on the lawn to dry in the sunlight. After that, I run the whole batch through the rinse cycle in the washing machine about 6-8 times (until the water looks clear), then line dry, then wash in a normal wash cycle (with soap). This way, the finished piece comes out almost as dark as when you dyed it. And you can skip the hand-rinsing that you see in a lot of YouTube newbie videos, that is just too painful and there is no advantage to it. Be creative and have fun! There are some very good YouTube videos to teach you how to do this, just hunt around, you will find them.

Great quality :) Missing contents :(
I have mixed reviews for this product. It comes packaged very girly and cute. My daughter couldn't wait to open it and mix the dye hours before we were ready to do the tie dye process. Upon opening it we were very disappointed that it did not include everything that was listed to be inside the box. It was missing two of the refill powder packets. With that being said so far we have died 5 shirts and a pair of shoes. Those items were all dyed using the powder that originally came in the bottles. Those are now empty!! So now we have three more refill powder packs for black, pink, and teal. With that being said we will probably get maybe another three or four projects out of this. So I do not see how this kit could possibly dye 30 things!!! Now if I had all refill packages I would probably get a total of 10-13 items. On the positive side we loved the colors. This carousel kit put together some very vibrant colors that all compliment each other nicely. You can' too wrong with any combinatation you choose. They are very bold and come out very true to color. They are deep and rich. I've washed the items a few times and there has been no more dye released. I feel that the dye on the shirts are high quality and the colors will stay forever. I did get some of the dye of my hands while rinsing the shirts in the sink before washing them, and it took a lot of scrubbing to get the dye off my hands and around my finger nails. However I wasn't wearing gloves so that's my fault, so just be careful if you don't want to stain anything. The gloves however that come with the product are very interestingly shaped not well for human hands. They did the job ok for the dying process, but they were very big. If I would have used them while rinsing the color out water would have gotten inside them. We didn't have a elevated rack to use while dying as suggested. What we did instead was put down a garbage bag on the tile kitchen floor then put a puppy pee pad over it that I got from the dollar tree. It worked great. The cleanup was so easy! I just wrapped it all up and threw it away. I was skeptical how the shirts would turn out after washing them in the washing machine because this was my first time, but as said before this product has not disappointed quality wise. I do wish it had all the refills though. I will just buy rit dye now and use the bottles this kit came with. It will be so much cheaper because I'm sure my daughter and her friends will be dying stuff all summer. My daughter already wants to dye a backpack and make umbra shorts.

Easy to do and the results look great!
What you see is what you get with these. A full set of bottles is probably enough for 2-3 adult size shirts, with refills for another 2-3 in the packets. Based on my own results, I recommend doing fewer shirts and really soaking them through with dye rather than trying to stretch it across 3 large-size shirts like I did, especially longsleeve shirts (seriously, why do people only make shortsleeve shirts tie-dye?). As always, make sure you get material which is 100% cotton. Also, feel free to throw out the gloves that are included because they are terrible and leak. I want to say the colors faded a little bit after the first couple washes, but after that it seems to have slowed down, and overall the dyes seem to be holding up well after wearing them several times. I imagine they will probably fade more significantly after many washes, but I doubt I will be wearing these shirts super often.

Fun, vibrant, easy to use
Easy to use, great results. Vibrant colors after soaking for 36 hrs, longer may have been even better. The magenta left specks of darker color, which is why I took a star off. But it may have just needed additional shaking? Some of the bottles did have a bit of dye on the outside, so be careful of that. I liked that the kit came with a set of colors that goes together well.

“Gloves” do NOT work
The dye is good and the colors are vibrant but do not trust the gloves they give you!!!! My fingers are completely dark purple and it’s really hard to get off I recommend buying your own high quality gloves

Great fun!
Brilliant. Bought several kits with different colors for a large group of young people to tie dye shirts. The shirts came out brilliantly, the colors didn't fade too much, and the dye went a long way. My only warning would be to use the gloves; they'll leak/tear a bit if you do too much, but still better than dyed fingers/hands for a few days!

So much fun.
Great colour saturation but it will definitely require a good soaking. Don’t be stingey when applying the dye and results are fantastic.

Highly recommended easy to use Tie Dye kit.
these tie dye kits are so simple to use and you get enough dye to tie dye all your wardrobe. Each bottle comes prefilled with some dye powder ( you also get a spare sachet of each colour), put on some rubber gloves, add water, shake to mix and you are ready to go. Each bottle will do at least 3 tops. I prewashed each t shirt and wrung them out thoroughly, then used the easy to follow in colour instructions for different designs using the supplied elastic bands. You then leave them to set for a few hours or overnight and then rinse and dry and you are ready to wear your new top. My kids were 8 and 6 the first time we made tops and they found it easy and simple to do. It says to use each colour up within 24 hours however I tried making tops with left over dye a couple of weeks later and it still work albeit that the colours were more muted. The end results wash well and the colours hold fast. Highly recommended easy to use kit.
