You are going to be at it a while.
I am not an expert meat grinder. What I have learned so far is chop it up fairly small, then put it in the freezer for a bit to get it slightly stiffer. NOT frozen, just stiffer it seems to work faster that way. I plan on buying a different disc thing where the meat is extruded. What it comes with is fairly small. I make meat balls with mine. It works ok for that. The way the parts fit could be a lot better. If you want to try hand grinding for something like meatballs where pork and beef are put together, this is ok for the money.

#8 Grinding plate holes are 3/16" diameter, plate is 3/8" not 1/4" thick
This is similar to the weight quality I used to have from my Grandfather's restaurant except his was a bit bigger. The finish looks sketchy like it may chip off. I'm still happy to have this for my home use. The 3/16" holes in the grinding plate are very small. It worked ok for Bologna salad but would be better if holes were bigger. It pretty much mushed up my dill pickles and hard boiled eggs like pate type of texture and the flavor was still there. I am looking to buy a plate with larger holes for courser texture especially for chicken salad or raw meats.

Casting has a rough spot that could injure fingers if not aware of it. Works great!!
Just like the grinders my mother had growing up. We make sandwich spread from leftover ham mixed with hot dogs or bologna.

Works for me.
Hand meat grinders ain't easy. But, I like the hands-on approach to my food preparation. This ain't my daddy's grinder from way back. But, it seems to work just as good. I came up on this one!

No bueno
I was super excited to get this grinder. I opted for a hand crank over an electric crank, because I’m new to meat processing, and wasn’t sure how often I’d actually use it. Wellllllll, I got this yesterday and was pumped to open it, as was my two year old. So we unpacked it and started putting it together. Unfortunately, there was no grinding plate, the box said it was a #8 grinder (I don’t know what that means really, but I assume it has to do with how coarse or fine the grind is). The box also said three sausage tubes were included. Only one was, but I wasn’t too upset about that, as I’m not planning on stuffing sausages just yet. The price was good, but it was very disappointing that I’m not even going to get to use it unless I order a plate! It was also rusted when I opened the box! Very unsatisfied with my purchase

It's a great product, it was just more than I needed.
It did not work for my setup in the kitchen.

The exit holes are WAY too small!
If the exit hole end attachment was just 50% bigger I'd give this a very positive review, but whatever you are grinding has to be almost liquid to exit this grinder. Even getting BOLOGNA to grind fine enough to exit was an effort. There is no way you could make sausage with this thing. Then, cleaning that same plate with 1/16" holes is almost impossible - scrubbing with different brushes repeatedly to get it done. Then after hand drying and placing on a rack the insides of the holes RUSTED in less than 3 hours. I used it 1 time and have it bagged and ready to return. I immediately went on ebay and bought a used vintage one for more money with larger attachments and it works perfectly. There are good new ones I know, but I'm hearing the rusting issues from others as well on the common new ones. I almost never leave a negative review, generally just leave it alone, but this is a bad purchase for anyone.
