Color is more slate (gray) than green

When I got this out of the box, I noticed two things. Firstly, I thought that it was the wrong color, because it looked like dark gray, and secondly, I was shocked at how lightweight it is. Studying it more closely, I can see a sort of greenish tint, but it really is more gray in my opinion. I bought it as in-cabin luggage for traveling via discount flights in Europe, and it just squeezes in under the 56 cm height maximum for easyJet. Their other dimensions allowed are 45 cm wide and 25 cm deep and it easily meets those. I haven’t used it yet, and the interior doesn’t seem very large, but then it wouldn’t would it? I’m a light packer, but five days is going to be tricky. I may need to squeeze a few items of clothing into my personal item.

If you like my review, please give it a thumbs-up. I only write reviews to help fellow Amazon shoppers. I am not compensated for any products, (I buy them with my own money, like many of you) and I write what I experience in order to make Amazon Reviews better for us all. This Travelpro Maxlite 5 22" is possibly the best carry-on out there for price/value. Yes this bag is slightly larger in overall dimensions (from top of bag to bottom of wheels, it's about 23" tall) that US Domestic restrictions for some airlines (United, for one) BUT this bag easily fits into overhead bins. I flew with this bag on 777's, 737-700's and A321s, all without issues. Gate agents didn't even look at this bag and I didn't stand out with it either. Other travellers who were trying to stuff rather large duffels were told at the gate they'd have to check their bags. Bag construction is of high quality nylon mesh and other high quality plastics. The wheels are perfectly round and feel durable. I pulled my bag across airports, roads, crosswalks and the uneven sidewalks in NYC. No issues and the bag remains stable and upright when being pulled. I elected to buy the two-wheeled version versus the spinner in order to gain more interior room in the bag. I was able to pack 3 suits and dress shirts (in a suit protector I also bought on Amazon) along with some golf shirts, shorts, jeans, socks and other small items. All this without making the bag bulge or look overstuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey. The bag is easy to pull down a jet's aisle(s) and with its built in padded side handle, making your way to your seat is a breeze. Being super light unpacked, this bag really makes great use of space all without making the bag heavy when packed. The zippers all have nice pulls and are easily accessible. The main compartment zippers have connecting loops so you can put a lock on your bag if you are forced to gate check. There's a front zippered pocket which serves you well for your phone and travel docs before going through TSA. This makes emptying your pants pockets easy so you can go unmolested through TSA checkpoints. While an occasional reach around from TSA could be nice, I prefer to avoid such personal interactions. The front expandable section of the bag allows for easy storage of a thin laptop or iPad and some cables. All making for easy access while on board a plane so you can get situated before flight with your devices. I can see packing for a 5 day trip in this bag and maybe adding a backpack for some extras to get to 7-8 days total. Overall, this bag is a great value, well made and I can see getting many good years out of it. And with bag fees going from $25-$30, buying and owning a bag like this is a no brainer now. If you use it 2-3 times, it will have paid for itself. You need this bag in your travel arsenal. Buy it. You can come back and thank me later.

best ever carry-on

got this carry-on especially for recent euro trip, where nothing was checked on the airplane! loved this! lightweight. i like the double transport wheels rather than the spinning type. holds lots of stuff, nice expansion zipper and outer zip pockets. easily accommodated a 'piggyback' backpack attached to the handles. durable over all the rough sidewalks and cobblestones! showed it to our son-in-law, and he has since 'borrowed' it long term, to replace his older carry-on with rotten wheels! so, i might have to get yet another!!

Passed Ryanair carryon sizing reqs but also survived being checked through two connecting flights

I bought two of these in a rush as we needed them for a family trip, and this model was in stock vs. the spinner. While I wish the 4-wheel 21-inch model would have been available in time (that one is listed as: Case Dimensions: 21 inches x 14 inches x 9 inches; Overall Dim: 23 inches x 14.5 inches x 9 inches; Weight: 5.4 lbs, Vol: 46 liter) , this 20-inch model actually is closer to the Ryanair specs as of August 2022. (TravelPro does offer an "international" 19-inch spinner model on its own site, but that one has slightly less capacity at 39L and was not in stock within my timeframe. Specs: Overall Dimensions: H: 21.75 in. W: 15.75 in. D: 7.75 in. Case Dim: H: 19 in. W: 15 in. D: 7.75 in. Weight: 5.3 lbs. Vol: 39 L) I'm happy to report that this 20-inch two-wheel style met Ryanair's specifications with nary a second glance. Ironically I was forced to check it on a Delta/KLM codeshare, because the flight was very full. The Azure Blue looked pretty much good as new when it showed up on the carousel, despite being checked onto two connecting flights. Post-trip pic attached - any color variation in the full-length pic is due to shadows, not dirt. Azure Blue is actually a nice warm blue, first pic is just a little overexposed due to afternoon sun. See second photo for color comparison. (Actually the bag looked better than my also brand-new hardshell American Tourister (ABS) spinner which was checked on the same flights and emerged with several long scuffs. But they both did the job which was to protect my belongings and remain intact.) I appreciate that this TravelPro has some higher-end features: all the zippers, even the ones on the interior mesh divider, are two-way (i.e. not just a single one-way zipper); the telescoping handle has two height adjustments; the wheels run smoothly and in fact track so well that you can push the bag down an aisle instead of pulling it, allowing for more maneuverability; the grab handle on the bottom makes it easier to move when loading into an overhead compartment; it's stable and not tippy even when fully loaded and with extra bags resting on top. It does not have locking zippers though you can use a small padlock to secure the zips. My one caveat is that I wish the side grab handle was oriented vertically or diagonally when the bag is standing upright, instead of horizontally. That would make it easier to grab when it is lying on its side (e.g. on a carousel) or to carry when walking in close quarters, as if it were a briefcase. Last thing that I really like about this bag is that it is quite light (5.4 lbs, vs. other similar models from diff brands which can clock in at up to 8.2 lbs), which makes it far easier for me to hoist it over my head. I am >5 feet tall so when I put it into an overhead bin I need to stand on the seat or lift it in a full overhead press, so every ounce saved matters to me. Plus of course the lighter the bag, the more capacity I have for my belongings. Quite happy with this purchase!

International carry-on

Bought this specifically for a British Airways flight since my other carry-on is slightly too large. This is lightweight and holds a great deal -- possibly could have avoided checking another bag if my trip was less than 12 days and/or didn't need an outfit for a specific occasion. I'm considering purchasing a 25-inch model to match because I like it so much!

Light and easy to use

I bought this after belatedly realising that airlines now allow larger in-cabin bags than the old TravelPro I bought around 20 years ago. I'd been shoe-horning everything into a smaller space than necessary or omitting stuff. More fool me! I'm not generally a brand loyalist but, after researching the alternatives, I plumped for another TravelPro not least because the old one is still in excellent condition, bar the knocks and bashes that some intense business travel has inflicted. They're tough. And in use, the MaxLite lives up to its name: despite being 25% bigger it's clearly lighter than my old TravelPro, the wheels have rubber tyres so it's quieter than the plastic ones, and they're enclosed, so less likely to get damaged. You can thump this over pavements and it'll still work. One or two more external pockets would have been nice but other than that, it's hard to fault.

Terrible Quality

I purchased a set of Travelpro Maxlite based on luggage reviews, and I’m very dissatisfied with all pieces. Travelpro is described as being durable and having inline skate wheels. The wheels are NOT skate wheels - which is false advertising, and the pieces are ridiculously flimsy. The last set of luggage I bought had real skate wheels and lasted for 15 years of hard use. These wheels are flimsy suitcase wheels. The entire suitcase is extremely flimsy. The handle is not sturdy, and twists as you expand it. I carry a small suitcase on top, and I don’t think the handle can support it. The zipper is the quality and size of a dress zipper. My ski coat has a thicker and stronger zipper. The frame seems like it’s made of cardboard. The luggage is very lightweight but that’s because it has no strength and is a piece of junk. I don’t understand the good reviews? Did I get the same suitcase as everyone else?

Very Disappointed

This piece of luggage is described as light weight - but that’s about all I can say that I like about it. The suitcase is flimsy. I opened it up, and the lid flops open. It’s also described as having inline skate wheels. There’s no way you could use a wheel like this for skating - it’s false advertising, and the description needs to be changed. The wheel is a lightweight luggage wheel and flimsy - as is the entire piece of luggage. It has a pocket on the inside, but it’s has no room to give, so it won’t hold much, and the zippers are lightweight and a poor quality. I carry a CPAP machine with me that I attach to the handle, but the handle is flimsy, and I don’t think it will hold up to having the CPAP machine strapped to it. I’d rather have more weight, and luggage that will hold up to heavy use. My last piece lasted 15 years with constant use, and it was sturdy. I don’t expect this piece to hold up to all the miles I put on my luggage.

A simply splendid carry-on suitcase.

I ordered this Travelpro Maxlite 5 Softside suitcase on a Friday afternoon. It arrived the very next day - Saturday - just after 1:00 PM. Wow! Amazon Prime membership at its best. Another superlative Amazon shopping experience. The suitcase itself is a brilliant piece of luggage being beautifully designed, solidly constructed and expertly finished. There are no discernable flaws that I could find in any part of this bag. None at all. The interior is remarkably roomy for a carry on roller bag. Helpfully, there are two hold down straps to secure one's packed belongings. In addition, there are a couple of small pockets on the inside to place smaller individual items. On the front flap, there are a two additional zippered pockets. One of these is larger and expandable while the smaller one is suitable for documents and such like. The solidly constructed aluminium handle extends to make this a true roller bag. The black exterior fabric is cobbled, thick and feels very durable indeed. A distinct advantage to this model over the similar sized Travelpro carry on suitcase with four (4) roller wheels is that the slightly shorter dimensions of this model are likely to make it easier to store in an overhead bin. I say this because the two wheels of this model are tucked more closely into the base of the bag. There is also less risk of one of the more exposed free spinning wheels of the four wheeled model getting caught and torn off while placing or removing it in the bin. Otherwise, dimensionally, the two bags are identical. Lastly, there are two substantial rubber or plastic tips affixed to the base opposite the rear wheels to aid in keeping the bag upright when not in motion. Altogether, this seems to be a splendid pick from the range of available choices on the Amazon website. While a little more expensive perhaps than others, the price appears to be entirely justified by the quality of the suitcase. We'll see how it actually holds up on a flight (or many!), but all the signs point to the start of a long and happy relationship.

Great Carry On!

This is a great carry on suitcase. I just took it to Italy for 2 weeks and it took quite a beating from planes, trains, busses, cobblestone streets, stairs, etc! I was able to fit everything I needed for 2 weeks and it still felt very light weight! Fit in the overhead bins no problem. Definitely recommend, especially for this price!
