Catch and release??
The media could not be loaded. These traps work very well. Super easy to set and easy to release the caught rodent. I recently bought a box of 5 of these traps and I’ve caught 2 rats so far. Both were still alive in the traps. It seems like the design may have changed and perhaps the springs are weaker than the previous version? Regardless, I would still recommend and purchase again. 4 stars. Would have given 5 stars if they finished the job.

my 2nd favorite rat/chipmunk trap! MUST READ...
I noticed few chipmunks running around the yard here and there but didn't think anything of it until I saw holes that they were digging behind a retaining wall as their home... I just replaced the retaining wall 3 years ago and it cost me over $10,000 so I wasn't going to let these chipmunks damage and ruin it. I actually have a lot of experience with mouse kill traps but I never had a chipmunk or rat trap so I bought 3 different rat/chipmunk kill traps and this one turned out to be my 2nd favorite but I had to use it with Tomcat Rodent Station so that I don't hurt other big animals or birds. WHAT I LIKE: [+] Very strong snap action. It will be instant kill for sure if it gets them on the head... [+] Easy to bait while trap is not activated. [+] It's easy and safe to activate the trap without any risk of your hand or finger getting injured [+] It has a loop to tie it down to something in case the injured rat or chipmunk tries to run away with the trap. [+] It works great with Tomcat Rodent Station if you want to use it outdoor without the risk of hurting other big animals and birds. [+] Grab tab for easy disposals and can be reused over and over and over... [+] Price is great! WHAT I DON'T LIKE: [-] Absolutely nothing! BOTTOM LINE: Easily 5 out of 5 stars. I have no complaint about this trap as it works flawlessly and I have caught so many chipmunks already. The only reason why this is my 2nd favorite is because J T Eaton Jaws Depot Covered Rat and Chipmunk Trap just happens to have better design as it comes with a cover to be used outdoor and for better kill rate. Sure, you can buy Tomcat Rodent Station separately as I did but the Tomcat Rodent Station has minor problems that's not as good as J T Eaton's. Anyways, this is a great trap for rat or chipmunks and you can't go wrong with this, especially if you are using it indoor without any big animals around it. Hope this was useful... and if it was, please click on the helpful button below. Thank you!

Instant death is hit or miss
I've used this trap to catch more than a few rats that come into the garage looking for food/water. There were a couple times where there was not instant death and I had to finish the extremely unpleasant job. Recently a pair of rats had been eating slug bait. So, I used the slug bait in the rat trap and at least that worked to lure them there. The first rat was dead in the trap right away, but not the second. So, size likely has something to do with the effectiveness of the spring. The trap's teeth were clasped near the neck and its head was fully in the trap, so theoretically it should have died right away. Another possibility is that the spring has weakened after multiple uses. I like this tomcat one better than the old fashioned ones, but I hate setting those up. I may go back to them, though, since I'm starting to have PTSD from all the noises of a dying panicked rat in a trap scampering around banging the thing, plus the cleanup is worse than cleaning toilets.

Great for Catching Young Possums - Not Great for Chipmunks
These traps came recommended for me by a buddy to handle a chipmunk problem I have. Granted the box says they are for rats, he had success with them for his chipmunk issues, so I figured I'd give it a go. I bought two, we put them out by the side of my deck where they run by, and baited them with peanut butter and waited. The next morning I went out to see if I caught any of the little buggers, and to my surprise both traps were missing! My instant reaction was to blame my nosy neighbors, as they are always a bother. I went inside and put my shoes on to further investigate/search for the missing traps. I came out, walked around the house and nearly stained my drawers. Near my feet I found a younger possum (Not full grown adult) with one of the traps stuck on its snout. This catch caused me some very deep emotional thought. Should I end the life of the disease bag that got stuck in trap, or do I give the little bugger a chance and somehow try to remove the trap? I figured since Ralph (that's what I'm naming him) wasn't my intended target, I'd pardon him this one time. With gloves, a big garbage can lid, a long shovel, and all the manliness I could muster, I was able to cover him with the lid and release the trap from his snout using the shovel. I then took a rake and lifted the lid and ran like a child as my new friend meandered under my bushes/deck area. I made an agreement that if he leaves by the next day, he won't be physically evicted. Thankfully, Ralph left and hopefully he told his friends that my deck area isn't a good place to hang around. The second trap is still missing. For the final review: If you are killing rats these may work as Ralph was about the size of a large rat. You may want to anchor them to the ground though, and for that I'll take off one star. If going for larger game, you may want to put a GPS tracking device on these if you wish to get the traps back. As for killing chipmunks, I'd give these traps 1 star as I had a horrible experience and have decided to make a peace treaty with my chipmunk friends instead.

No lo compren. Peligroso.
Malísimo. De manejo peligroso. Jamás cayeron los ratones y una rata logró escapar. Lo peor es que al tercer día ya no funcionaba. No sirve y en verdad puede llegar a lastimar a quién lo coloque.
