This is just what we needed. Upside Mother had a broken ankle and could not make it to the bathroom. Rehab sent a commode that was difficult for her to navigate, with help! We ordered this one. She can maneuver on her own. Drop arms help. Very sturdy. Did wonders for her independence! So important. Also, once the right cleaner is found, you barely notice it is in the room (especially if there is a cover). Downside Must be careful with the fit. The bucket lip has to fit just so or, no go... not a good thing!

Sturdy but too narrow

I purchased this for my mom. It was easy to put together. It is well made and very sturdy. The problem is that the seat is so narrow it is very uncomfortable to have a bowel movement because your buttocks are squeezed together. Mom is not a large person. She wears size medium and weighs about 140, so she is not a plus size woman. I'm surprised that this would be an issue for an average size person.

Exactly what I needed!

My 83-year old mom moved in with us a month ago. Even though our toilet was tall, she would fall heavily on it when going to the restroom. My husband & I were afraid she would unseat our toilet. We bought this brand after checking the dimensions, knowing it had the flexibility to be placed in her bedroom, or be used over the toilet in our bathroom. First, this portable toilet is VERY well made and very sturdy. It is advertised to support up to 350-lbs. My mom weighs about 160-lbs. The unit was shipped fully assembled, and only needed the leg extensions snapped into place-no tools needed. The arm rests provide her stability as she sits, & has kept her from pulling our toilet paper dispenser off the wall it's installed on (she did that 3x's before we bought this portable toilet). We have also used this in the shower. We covered the padded arm rests w/small trash can liners & tightly secured w/Duck tape. We removed the bin that captures waste, as well as the lid that covers the toilet seat. My mom was SO happy to be able to take an extended shower, without the fear of falling. After she finished her shower, we removed the portable toilet from the shower, dried off the frame & removed the leg extensions to fully dry. We may only do this once a week, but it is a great bonus to have one apparatus that can meet multiple needs. I highly recommend this product.

Be careful !!!

This isn't my first bedside toilet, so I do have a basis of comparison. I chose this model because it is white, not gray. You must use caution using this toilet. It is not 100% stable and you have to be careful sitting and arising NOT for it to tip over!!! I've had several "close calls"; I think how easily someone less stable could easily end up on the floor, covered in the bucket contents! This has never been an issue with other portable toilets at the hospital or home. Unfortunately there is a second issue that took a week to pop up. The leg pinching mentioned by other reviewers. I keep looking trying to figure out what's causing it, and an easy solution. So, if this toilet is to be used by someone elderly or not so stable, please be aware of these two issues: particularly the potential of the toilet and user ending up on the floor!

One MAJOR design flaw - on all commodes like this.

Bought for my elderly mother when she was sick. She has a tall toilette, but was having trouble standing up. So we removed the bucket and placed this, with the splash guard still on it, over her toilette. This allowed her to still use her bathroom and made her feel more like herself. After we placed the toilette, I noticed she had small bruises on the back of her legs. At first I thought she had bumped into something. A few days later, I spotted droplets of blood on the floor of her bathroom. I panicked and asked her what had happened. She said the commode 'pinches' as she sits down. Pinches is not the word for it! Elderly have paper-thin skin... the commode had pinched blood blisters and cuts. I examined the seat then realized that when she goes to sit down, her legs were pressing against the edge of the seat, the seat would lifts slightly and, as she sits, the lip of the lid would settle back down and pinch her skin between its edge and the metal frame holding the commode.. I wanted to take it out, but she won't go without the commode, she says it helps her a great deal. We tried just padding the metal, but she was still getting pinched. So, after each cleaning, we literally taped the seat down to prevent it from hurting her.

Very nice unit

This commode is very functional without the institutional look of most other commode chairs. It has a european flair that fits nicely into any bathroom. The arms are nicely padded for comfort and easily sweep down using the push pin mechanism. The adjustable height is easy to change and the chair sits solidly on the floor. To use the commode at the bedside there is a back support that holds the raised lid in place but can be easily removed if used only in the bathroom over a toilet. The bucket is large with a lid. This unit even includes a splash guard so no accidents on the floor when it is in place. Other units don't include a splash guard or charge extra and believe me you need a splash guard when using a commode over a toilet. This is a very nice unit and priced very well.

This commode is great. It is not flimsy and is stable when transferring on to it. I really am very happy with it. Very good investment. I love it! Has helped very much as I am in a wheelchair.
