So my dog developed a phobia...
... of having a regular harness pulled off over his head. I remembered seeing a commercial for the thunder leash and thought it was the dumbest thing. "Why not just use a harness?" I thought. Well, then we moved to a smaller place without a backyard, and my 5lb toy pomeranian was left without a grassy place to so his business. Walking him isn't a big deal, but when it came to taking off his harness, he yelped like we were branding him with a hot iron. Just clipping the leash to his collar wouldn't work either, because of the same issue and the tendency of little dogs to develop a tracheal collapse. Enter: The Thunderleash. The answer to our problems. It acts like a harness and distributes the weight evenly around his whole body, without the problem of having to slip something over his head. Of course, not the intended benefit of the leash, but a benefit nonetheless. I do have a couple complaints though. The leash is intended to wrap around the dog counter-clockwise, however it will slip to the right (the side it is hooked on) so that the hardware is off-center. And the hardware itself is a bit on the heavy side, perhaps not for a dog upwards of 10lbs, but certainly for my 5lb dog. That being said, I think it's a great product. Definitely worth getting if your dog has similar issues to mine.

Worth a try--works well.
I bought the leash for my 18-month old, 16 lb. cavachon and it works well. I'm training her to sit and wait when I stop at a corner, and when I say "okay" she usually takes off in a bolt. In the first 24 hours of using the leash, she responded by walking nicely across the street with me. I do see less pulling with the leash, mostly just gentle tugs, but it's no match for bunnies, squirrels, other dogs, or little children. I do think this is improving, and I've learned that I have to position the leash carefully around her rib cage for it to be most effective. The one drawback I have found is that it the leash comes out of the buckle quite frequently, and I have to stop and rethread it. I would still recommend this leash to others.

Big improvement over a choke chain and leash
I must explain that before this leash I was strictly a choke chain and leather leash guy. However I have been doing a lot of reading about corrective vs positive reinforcement and there is a lot to say about the positive reinforcement. I have noticed a difference in this puppy vs others I raised using "correction". I wouldn't say this leash PREVENTS pulling but it certainly gives better feedback to the dog. The main functioning part of this system is a simple hook which provides a secondary tether that is wrapped around the dogs upper chest. It is then fed through the loop so that when you pull it tightens around the rib cage. That loop is secured to the back of the existing collar. I have a puppy and obviously they are high powered and lack control. The first couple of days I had lots of pulling but with simple tugs ('corrections') she would come back and walk with me. Now that we have had several tries with it she has stopped pulling as much. When she does pull it causes it to constrict around her rib which causes her to restrict the pulling. She can still pull but much of the pressure is applied to her midsection. The only issue I have run into is that sometimes the tether that goes around the midsection will fall out of the loop. Not a big deal since the collar is still attached to the leash. All in all a good training tool and I feel much better about not tugging at her neck. Craftsmanship is evident in the tether and buckle. I regularly inspect my dogs armpits and chest after a walk and I have noticed no irritation after a few weeks.

Sadly disappointed.
I have a Jack Russell, so right there might be the problem. I read the reviews & everyone that I read raved about instant and amazing results with the ThunderLeash. The leash fits. It's easy. The reason that I purchased the ThunderLeash is that I've recently had neck surgery & cannot have a dog tugging while walking. Our dog is 8-9 yrs old so you would think this would be easy. Buck jerks & runs & flits about while I try to walk him. I've compared taking a walk with Buck to trying to fly a kite in a hurricane-HANG ON FOR DEAR LIFE!! I was hopeful but my husband said there's no safe way for me to take Buck for a walk at this time with the ThunderLeash. Hopefully, after I fully recover, the ThunderLeash will be effective enough that Buck & I can once again walk.

A great leash!
My son suggested this leash when I got a dog. It’s works great! I love that it’s adjustable so she can have a bit of play and room to move freely and get still keep her safe when we walk.

Easier than a harness, more safe than a clip-on leash
We have several of these ThunderLeash, and I highly recommend these. I use these on our 75 lb and 45 lb huskies, and on our easily-frightened 15 lb rescue, and have a spare. (We had two spares, but I gave one to a friend who adopted a husky.) The ThunderLeash is far easier to attach and remove than a standard harness. We trust these leashes to securely restrain our dogs, whereas I have seen huskies shake-off or break-free from clip-on leashes alone. Also, the slight chest compression (when the dog pulls) can help to calm the dog down (which we definitely noticed on our first use). The attached photo shows our two huskies and a visiting rescue all on ThunderLeash. The dogs tend to walk more calmly while wearing these than when wearing a standard harness (which we did try previously). I highly recommend these for any dog owner with a dog that tends to pull a lot, or if they are worried about their dog getting loose (by pulling out of their collar). Note that we bought the small ThunderLeash for use by a pet-sitter or dog-walker as our recent small rescue is still very scared of strangers and has shown a strong ability to escape from his collar if he tries to flee.

No effect whatsoever
This had zero effect on my18 lbs Mini American Eskimo who just won’t let others take the lead on walks. Maybe his fur is so thick the tightening sensation doesn’t annoy him enough. Will be returning the product unfortunately.
