Easy to use

We have a very small pond, 40-50 gallons only, so this is bigger than what I needed. I have, however, plugged it in a few times and let it help melt the ice. It does warm the water too much if left on more than a couple of hours. Our fish have survived the winter thus far, thank the Lord, so has been helpful. For a bigger pond would probably be a 5 star rating.

Works as intended

I live in north-central GA. Bought this to keep the pond above freezing at night and the water a bit warmer. Put it on a timer that turns it on at about 9pm and off about 7am. I have a 125 gallon pond, and on below freezing nights in the high 20's, with daytime highs in the upper 40's and the pond receiving full sun all day, it keeps the pond in the low 40's. This appears comfortable for my comet goldfish. I have no idea why some reviewers claim it has brought their pond above 80d. Unless they are keeping it turned on through VERY warm days, I don't see using basic thermodynamic principles how that is even possible given it is only 300watts except on the smallest of ponds (like bucket sized). You can hold it when it is turned on where the metal heating shield is, and it doesn't even burn your hand.

My fish survive the winter because my pond stays deiced. This is bigger than I expected. So far it has worked well to keep my pond deiced.

Does not have a thermostat

I bought this thinking it would just keep it warm enough that my little pond wouldn’t freeze all the way over. However, it’s been super cold out with all the snow and I just checked the temperature of my pond and it’s 50 degrees. The fish are happy but just be warned it doesn’t stop heating up. Maybe my pond is too little for it but when I was reading reviews and questions asked it seemed like it had a thermostat shut off point but it doesn’t.

NOT FOR SMALL Ponds

This product ought to have indication of what size pond would be too small for this. I have goldfish in a 100 gallon tub, in USDA Zone 5. This device not only cleared the ice, but warmed the pond enough for the fish to come out of hibernation. So now I only plug it in for a couple hours when it gets covered with ice. I feel like I bought something completely unnecessary, and could have avoided this if there was more product information!

Plugging in De-Icer Tripping thd GFI

I had the same problem as some other people here. We have separate power line for the pond. We lost power for a couple hours and plugged in our generator. Our air stones and de-icer worked fine. After the power came back on the de-icer didn't work. I pushed the reset and the air stones worked yet every time I plugged in the de-icer it tripped the switch and shut off. Must have shorted out. I was really impressed with the de-icer's performance up until now. I hope I can get a replacement.

to keep pond free of ice

This system does keep my pond free of ice (small area of 3 feet square) during the Canadian winter of the Atlantic Province (encounter - 20 Celsius in January and February). This allow the gas build up to escape. I have not lost any Koi fishes for the past two winter. It works well and I am very satisfy. As for power bill, well it did not increase much, $10.00 CAN for two months payment for continuous operation days and nights as the temperature drop below -5 Celsius. Above it, the ground temperature keep the pond ice free therefore no need to have it turn on.

Arctic temps

We are currently in the deep freeze. -31 with the windchill and this product is keeping the pond from freezing over. My fish also seem to like inspecting it, maybe they like the heat coming off it :)

Mauvaise qualité, pas durable

Un des pires achats faits sur Amazon. Après seulement quatre mois d'utilisation il s'est rempli d'eau. Très mauvaise conception, impossible de l'ouvrir pour enlever l'eau et faire sécher. Garanti 3 ans oui mais mon bassin est complètement gelé avec des poissons dedans, j'ai pas le temps d'attendre une de remplacement sous garanti. Je vais devoir en acheter une autre rapidement, mais certainement pas le même modèle.

Works very well

Before trying this one, I had bought the Farm Innovators de-icer unit and unfortunately, it didn't last and stopped working after a few weeks in our pond. So I decided to buy this Tetra Pond de-icer instead, and yes, it has been working very well as expected. Very happy with it. I've attached a picture showing it in action.

Doesn’t work well below zero Celsius haha

So I know it’s a cold year, but even when it just dipped below zero (Celsius) it did very little to prevent my tiny pond from freezing over. All I need is a small hole around it to make a difference but it’s frozen solid into the ice. And above zero, you don’t need it so I guess it’s not that useful. The bubbler does a way better job keeping things open.
