Good string tension meter
It works for amateur tennis players in a relative sense. Once stringed one can follow the tension loss relative to the initial stringing.

a $25 tool not a $200 instrument
It has the utility of a $200 tension measuring instrument in that the measurement may not be accurate, but it will be consistent. It will return the same result ten, fifteen and twenty minutes from now. Its intended use is to help you decide when to replace your strings before they severely affect your game. It isn’t to check the accuracy of your stringing machine or your tennis shop stringer. That said, a week after I restrung my racquet to 55#, the Gamma STT measured 55#. An iPhone app said the tension was 36.3 lb. The racquet plays like 55#.

if you don't know how to read or do math - don't buy it
First of all, the scale is NOT in pounds. It has its own measuring units, so don't try to match it with your string tension. Second, you have to do 10 measurements at certain places on the stringbed and then average them, which is gonna be your baseline. Overall not a bad tool if you know how to use it. One major nitpick - sticker with the scale on it is barely glued and starts coming off right away, so if you buy this thing you would need to re-glue it.

A handy gadget that works well!
I just had my racquet restrung with Synthetic Gut at 52# by a professional stringer. I used this gauge on the new stringbed and it indicated very close to 52#. if you insert it into a square of strings that are close together, it's easier to get an accurate read. After reading all the 1 star reviews, I don't understand how they all had so much trouble. This gauge is not a professional instrument nor is it represented as one. When I turned the dial, I suppose I could have believed the tension to be anything between 50-52# - I knew mine was at 52#. But that is still pretty good for a $20 gauge. This will be a great tool to monitor the tension and replace the strings when they get below 45#.

Ignore the 1 star uninformed reviews
Please ignore the 1 star reviews from people who clearly have no idea what they're talking about. I string my own racket and use 50lbs on the mains and 48lbs on the crosses. As soon as I have strung a racket I take the Dynamic Tension using this device and it comes out at 38 or about 10lbs below the stringing machine tension. The dynamic tension of a racket is ALWAYS lower than the tension on your stringer, just check out one of the thousand of racket stringing videos on YouTube to verify this. This device is simply to give you a baseline from which to judge tension drop off so as to be able to decide when to restring. As another reviewer said, about 20% below initial dynamic tension. Just my 10 cents.

What it measures
This measures the loss of tension over time. That means you need a base reading at the time it is strung. Without that the measurement is meaningless. It does not accurately measure the tension on the string with a single measurement.

Tension but what tension?
This device is so non specific, very much depends on the person using it plus so much can vary. It does not give a racquet tension in terms of string tension but a reading of tension in relation to the device which is different for every person using the device. Awareness is needed to know whether it is testing a main or a cross string. There is no obvious limiter to when to stop a tension check so it is possible to go to the maximum of the device. User strength varies as does different types of strings. A good stringer will know instinctively or by sound how a racquet is tensioned. A nice idea but difficult to execute.
