Weapon maker magnificence
THIS PENCIL SHARPENER is the one you need. I have five kids, all drawing, writing, and AHEM making arrows, all day, every day. We burn out the motors on even good, expensive, electric pencil sharpeners with the greatest of ease. My husband and I both grew up with the old Berol Giant crank handled pencil sharpeners and this thing is like that… ONLY BETTER. I haven’t had it very long, so I will update this when and if necessary, but so far, two weeks and 4 trays of shavings emptied… extremely pleased! Just bought two more. The clamp is annoying. But who cares?! Find a thinner surface to stick it on or use a Stanley clamp. It sharpens pencils with blazing efficacy, so fast and quiet that I did not actually believe it could possibly be sharp yet, only to pull it out to a super pointy pencil.

Sharpens pencils quickly and very well but clamp doesn’t stay in place
Pencil sharpener works very well , but the clamp that is supposed to attach it to a counter or desk top is very flimsy and easily knocked out of place rendering it useless . In order to sharpen you need to hold the sharpener still or have a second person do it for you. I will try to figure out an alternative way of holding it in place.

A fabulous sharpening experience!!!
This is an amazing pencil sharpener. It's the best one I've ever owned. I use it on all sizes and diameters of lead as well as pencil with and it's very easy if the tip breaks to reverse and get it out. Bravo!!!!

good, could be better
Good: It sharpens pencils well, with an adjustable point. The clutch doesn't leave marks on the pencil. Bad: The clutch housing feels flimsy and it does not feed the pencil at all. I always need one hand on the end of the pencil to push it into the sharpener.

The most awesome pencil sharpener
Tried two other manual sharpeners and sent both back, and spent way too much time researching pencil sharpeners. This is by far the best one I have seen and tried. It is very solid - heavy weight solid steel. It is very well engineered. It clamps down to the edge of my table. I put the clamp on the handle side although it can work on either side and also put some double stick foam tape under it so it does not slide at all. I recommend using some double stick so it is rock solid with the table. It leaves no marks on the pencils unlike similar type sharpeners because it has rubber grippers instead of metal teeth. It sharpens perfect every time. The tip adjustment did not do as much as hoped as I wanted to make pencils really blunt for my 2 yr old, but it is good enough. When you load a pencil, I apply a brief force opening the levers so that it clamps harder. This is recommended especially for round colored pencils. The pencils may spin a little especially round colored pencils, but it doesn't matter as the pencils sharpen perfect. The spinning is because it clamps with rubber instead of other sharpeners with metal teeth leave ugly marks in the pencil, which I do not want. I never write reviews, but I wanted to on this sharpener. I highly recommend this pencil sharpener.

Great for Pastel pencils
I bought this because someone mentioned it in another review for a different sharpener. It’s great for harder pastel pencils but the softer ones got stuck in it. I would buy it again????

Functional but durability is lacking
I have this pencil sharpener since 2019. Paid $38 plus tax for it. I've only ssed Crayola color pencils and No. 2 pencils with this pencil sharpener. I like this metal casing and the metal rotating handle. I thought it was going to be a workhorse pencil sharpener. Wrong assumption. If you value your time or don't have the repair skills for this pencil sharpener, don't buy it. I kept fixing it because I didn't want to add to the landfill. Plus: Metal casing. Metal helical gear and ring gear. Metal handle. Everything worked well when new. Minus: After 7 months, the pencil grip part broke. It's the rabbit ears looking part. The handles stuck in the closed "squeezed" position. I took it apart to troubleshoot. It was due to poor lubrication and the internal "gears" jumped out of the place. I fixed it with special tools and vaseline petroleum lubricant. Took me 3 hours. The next part I fixed was the blunt to sharpness adjustment. This repair was easier and I took a file to smooth out the rough metal casting. Took me about 40 minutes. The next thing I fixed was the helical cutting gears not turning smoothly. It was grinding on the ring gear. I used Lucas oil with needle tip to lube the rotating shaft. Another 60 minutes to troubleshoot and repair. Summary: Look elsewhere for a more durable pencil sharpener. There is a version of this pencil sharpener that costs $60 imported from Japan. It's "Karujimu-ki" A5RY-R pencil sharpener on Amazon. Maybe you'll have a better luck with that. Also try the Mars helical gear pencil sharpener. It's the Staedtler Mars hand crank pencil sharpener 501 180. The fit and finish is better although there is more plastic with the Mars pencil sharpener.

Adjustable Sharpener for Normal Sized Pencils
Quickly and efficiently sharpens regular sized pencils (will not fit larger pencils). My photos shows a pencil sharpened on setting 5 (blunt), setting 1 (sharp), and an unsharpened pencil to show the effectiveness of the auto-stop feature. Very impressed so far, the auto-stop feature prevents pencil wast, and the adjustment makes a meaningful difference in the width of the point. Compared to my electric sharpener (Panasonic KP-410), the point on the sharpest setting is very similar and while not as fast as an electric sharpener, there is much less noise and the process is quick enough for home use that I would be fine with just this sharpener. The adjustable point makes it more useful for colored pencils as well which I prefer a bit more blunt.

Nice sharpener let down by plastic parts
A big disappointment: this is a beautiful, sturdy looking piece of kit marred by plastic parts where metal should be. The polished faceplate and rear are both chromed plastic -- white underneath, with applied chrome-colour finish. While it does a great job of sharpening, it's really disappointing that these two parts, made to look metal, are actually plastic.

Sehr guter Spitzer

Amazing
This is a quality product, cast metal gearing, works well, heavy duty. I like that it doesn't make the pencil into a spear point. It leaves no mark on the pencil from holding it. But its really big. Like classroom big, more than expected for home, but that's ok.

Bon aiguisoir

Works great!
Bought this for the kids as I grew up with a similar one and know how to fix it if it breaks down or jams. Much better than an electric sharpener!
