This item did not perform well. The handle was difficult/tight to turn, the blades were too dull to puncture the can lids, & the silicone grips slid off upon 1st use.

Not what they used to be

I bought this because I remembered the brand being the best there was, this one I got rusted within two weeks, ridiculously hard to use, and I feel it was a waste of $$$. I have arthritis and I cannot make this thing work. It's beyond impossible. If I could give it 0 stars for Easy to use I would. If you have weak hands steer clear.

It work ok

I’ve used this brand of can opener for years, received this new one and the gear and the cutting blade not lined up correctly, didn’t want to return though, just have to play with handle and open and close until it sits right.

NOT the same as my older one!

*(In the images, my older (10-years old or so) 'Swing-a-way' can opener is on the left, the new one is on the right). New one is about 3/4 size of older one AND DOES NOT SWING-A-WAY! Grrr...That's why I liked that brand; it made it easier to clean. That's it's MAX opening in picture; barely anything! (About 45 degrees, compared to the 180 degrees of my older one). It is harder to open cans because of its smaller size. It did open a can lid; it was just harder to turn crank handle compared to my older, larger one. My older one was effortless. I think I'll go back to Ace Hardware where I originally purchased my older one and buy a full-size one for $10. I'd return the newer one, but unfortunately I threw away the packaging, so I'm out $8.

Doesn't open cans

It literally doesn't cut through cans. I can puncture the top, but turning the handle doesn't advance the cutting at. Not breaking, so technically sturdy and durable, but also doesn't fulfill basic function.

Not what I expected

OK, I never did believe this can opener was approved by NASA, unless maybe for use on Earth. Canned goods on a space craft could result in peas and juice floating all over the place! I DID believe the can opener was made in the USA but MADE IN CHINA is stamped into the metal. I bought this can opener for 2 reasons. It was represented to be Made in the USA and my mom had a Swing-A-Way can opener that lasted for years. Hers was made in the USA. This can opener is not as good as my mom's but it is two dollars cheaper than a very similar model sold at Walmart, also made in China, and I got free shipping. Sometimes things from China contain lead or other unpleasant and unexpected materials. I prefer that things made in China do not get near my food. I also prefer to buy American goods to help employ Americans. I do not like lies in advertising!

Does the job...

?..but unlike the original, its not as easy. And if you have a weak grip, its hard. I do not like the rubber grips on the handles. They do give a steady grip, but its not smooth, and feels slightly sticky. Why why why did they have to change it? Don't fix it if its not broken! Other than that, it works well and is still so much better than an electric can opener. I hate those damn things.

Works, Not As Big As I Expected!

I have used these can openers for years. However, this was the first time I ordered via mail. I always purchased in the store so knew what I was getting. - This one was smaller (the working mechanism) so it is hard to use. However, I kept it as I needed it. Fell apart during first use

The crank came off when attempting to use it for the first time. Attempting to screw the crank back onto the gear, the threads don't engage and the crank spins freely without rotating the gear, making it unusable. I would avoid this model, the quality has gone downhill.

Finally - a can opener that actually works.

The Swing-A-Way can opener has been my go-to for years but it's become hard to find. This is exactly what I was hoping for.

Not like the old ones

I had a Swing a way opener for more than 20 years until it finally wore out. This new one share the name but is already having trouble opening cans after only a week. I do not feel it will last very long.

Sad day for SwingAway

I bought it to replace another brand that I find hard to use - it is too hard to turn the mechanism. Got this one because I have another similar model for the last 25 years that works really well. (It is currently in a different kitchen than I am). It arrived this morning and I was excited to use it while I was preparing lunch...so, so, so disappointed. It is worse than the other brand!! The covering on the handles fall off the tool. You need the strength of Hercules to turn the handle. Garbage. It's already in the envelope ready to return.

Opens cans!

Works perfectly good. Opens cans. Doesn't break, explode, melt, or agitate with proper usage. Highly recommend.
