Reminder to self: Don't go cheap when buying tools.

Taking it out of the package it appears to be made out of some type of babbitt metal as though it were intentionally designed to break. I expected it might break when I tried to use it. Then I took a good look at the drain I was about to replace. This drain it 30 years old, corroded and covered with mineral deposits. I now expected the drain would be the one to break. With one twist this tool managed to shred the inside of the drain. Good for me. Project must now wait for a different tool to arrive. Meanwhile, I now have the broken chunks of the old drain down inside the drain pipe which I can't get out until a new tool I ordered arrives and I can actually remove the drain. I just hope they're still reachable. Perhaps this tool might work fine if you are replacing a newer drain that hasn't taken decades to weld itself into position, but for older ones like mine it just managed to destroy the cross pieces inside the drain eliminating any possibility of using this tool to remove it. For removing old encrusted drains that have corroded and welded into place over time this is useless, but it may be useful when installing the new drain without scarring it up. I'll find out once I actually get my old drain out. I've ordered a different tool for that. Reminder to self: Don't go cheap when buying tools. Update: The tool was useful for installing the new drain although I did eventually break it. I needed more leverage to ensure the drain was tightly seated and grabbed this tool with vicegrips. That doomed the tool. I got the drain tight, but the tool is history and ended up in the garbage. So no good for removing old drains, needs assistance installing new drains and will likely break somewhere during the process. Again, buy better quality tools even for jobs you may not have to redo again for years.

Nice tool but didn't fit

This does not fit in newer drains and I had to sent it back. It was an easy process and nice tool but wouldn't fit in my drain that had a small hole in the middle for the screw head of a stopper.

This thing is super cheaply made

This thing is super cheaply made, and doesn't have space to accommodate the screw in the middle of the crossbar, so it's only functional if you finagle it. Only used it to screw in a new drain, wouldn't trust its strength to take out an old stuck one. Got the job though, so I just consider it a probably disposable tool.

Perfect holder for sink tops

I have the normal thicker 4-part holder ... but was working with a sink that had 3 sections. This did the job beautifully. With a good drain tool on the bottom and this guy on the top ... the drain tightened up beautifully in short order. So glad that ugly project is behind me.

necessary

very necessary if you are going to remove old tub drain parts. Tool seems good..... my tub so old though, even with soaking stuff in CLR for days, I could not remove old drain parts. We were afraid to apply too much force for fear of damaging tub.

Great price and fast shipping.

Bought this tool along with a few others to assist in removing and installing the tub drains. Seems that with heavy use these drains need to be replaced a couple times a year and can be difficult to remove. I find the job to be much easier now that I don't have to use a hammer and chisel. Amazon offers these tools at a good price which makes life a whole lot easier. The other Superior tools ordered were 06020 and 05255 (a must-have-tool). Vary satisfied with these products.

Did the job

I had a terrible leak from my bathroom sink but couldn't get my hands behind the pedistal. Popup sinks are different to standard one as the plug hole has to turn anticlockwise for removal . This little tool does the job . Now my bathroom floor is not flooded.

Bought this to tighten my shower drain, will not work, only good for sink drains, should have read more carefully.
