Not for the Northeast...or me. Not worth the $
Used this for a year and I really wanted it to do well... it did not. You can adjust the speed of your return so that the water is hot but if the return is on normal the water will only be about 4 degrees more. Possibly 3 of these chained together would provide a decent amount of heat and that's depending on if it gets enough sun. I moved it depending on the season and it did do a good job on killing the grass under it quickly. It was inaccessible and somehow developed a few small holes. The holes patched easily and I sold it soon after. The lack of heat and size of the unit was all I needed to part ways. I tried and wasn't impressed. Overall 4/10

Got my pool to decent temp within 4 days.
Over all its a great panel. I have a 18' x 48" intex pool. I use the Intex solar cover. I hung the solar on the side of my house vertically which isn't the best position but for my yard I did not have tons of options. It faces due south but has some shade in the morning and late afternoon. When I filled it the temp was 59 degrees. I set up a secondary intex pump that pumps about 600 gph through the solar. I added on thermometers at the input and output of the solar array as well. I have the pump set up on a cheap wifi plug so I can start the secondary pump from my phone. Using the second pump for the solar means I don't need to use diverter valves or have the solar pumping when no sun. It also means I can turn on and off remotely from my phone. I feel getting a wifi plug and second pump to use with this solar heater is the best setup. I normally run it for 5 min in questionable sun and check the thermometers to see if there is a temp gain. When I first set it up i had some problems with it leaking. it comes with pvc adapters that will fit intex hoses. From reading, pipe tape is not the best way to secure a threaded pvc fitting, but it is what they include. With a single wrap of tape the fitting did leak badly. The second time I tried with 3 layers of tape over all the treads and did not over tighten like the first time. All the leaks stopped. So, use a lot of tape and don't over tighten. As I mentioned it does fit intex 1.25 inch hose but does not have the gasket needed. I took the gasket off an intex T and used a screw driver to push it into the grove in the intex hose. Once the gaskets were in and the included hose clamp was used there were no leaks. With the wifi plug I bought for the second pump that feeds the solar, I tuned on the pump when ever the sun was on it. I could confirm it was working by looking at the thermometers on the input and output of the solar. If there was at least a 1 degree difference I would run the pump. If not, I'd turn it off. In full mid day sun there was a 4-5 degree difference. When used with a intex solar cover, my pool went from 59-77 in 4 days. I would loose about 1 degree every night which would be more without cover. So in summery, it definitely helps expedite heating of your pool. To keep the heat you have I recommend a solar cover as well. I recommend 3 layers of pipe tape to prevent leaks and no over tightening. I also recommend a separate pump and wifi plug so you can turn it on and off easily without changing you main pump schedule or having to turn diverter valves (not included) It is compatible with intex 1.25 inch plumbing but will need a gasket. Update: my pool is now 83 degrees and has been open for 1 week!

This works in theory only on sunny days, connection to Intex 1.5 is the problem
The extra white fittings for hook up that come with these units measure 1.5" COUPLER, NOT pipe pvc. The supplied white parts fit to nothing, their thread is finer also. Everything fits differently here in the USA. I had to use a lot of rubber flex couplers and hard pvc parts to get this to connect to INTEX 1.5 ultraframe pool on the INTAKE, cutting off the end of an old intex 1.5" flex hose, using the dedicated smaller 1.200 pump INTEX POOL gave me included. Parts disconnect and blow apart upon starting the pump, using only the white teflon tape. Flex hoses are connecting together the 2 solar frames, and also from top unit to deliver back to pool. PVC plumbers blue solvent treatment and PVC glue along with metal clamps seem to work BEST holding the connections together. When it does not blow, it works great. On sunny days the water is hot from the 2 panels. The old cartridge filter pump I saved is NOT powerful enough to operate this. The panels are up on the side of my 18 x 9 INTEX rectangular pool, as I don't have the room on the lawn to lay flat. The supplied fittings to hook up by this supplier need to be designed for COMPATIBILITY in the US here, and with the larger pools, with A 2.0" US MALE threading to actually twist onto the gray nuts for the1.5" flex INTEX hose. I have spent MEGAHOURS and bought many parts to hook up. I AM USING THE separate DEDICATED small INTEX PUMP to keep on those connections to not blow, I think it is rated 1500 gph, not sure. You need slower power and flow for the water to warm up inside the panels which are made of small tubes. I have stayed with the PVC solvent and glue to keep connections, also with metal lamps! otherwise they blow apart. You practically have to be an engineer to hook this up with the actual INTEX 1.5 hoses, and do perhaps a DIVERTER VALVE on to adjust the strong flow from the pool pump. I agree on connecting this on it's own separate smaller pump. The bigger filter pump will blow the connections, use that larger one to keep the main pool clean on it's separate hose set up.

Hit and miss
It added 2 degrees Celsius within an hour on first use (but time consuming and costly to install - see below). It does help that we have a solar blanket as well so it helps keeps the heat on cooler nights. Definitely turn off when sun not on panel, and the sun does need to be on it for it to be effective, but pretty much does what it’s supposed to. We have an intex above ground 15ft round pool (4ft deep) and ran 1 panel, we probably could have done 2, but not losing sleep over it. Now, it’s not going to be a massive difference, but it does make the difference from freezing to tolerable/enjoyable (refreshing) water! We normally went up 4-6 degrees Celsius depending on amount of sun we had that day. But going from 20 Celsius to 24-26 Celsius is nice water! We did find using solar blanket as soon as we were done swimming for the day kept the heat in better. I may look into a wrap for the sides for next year for additional heat loss overnight. But… additional items needed! $$$ You are definitely not able to open box and start using and definitely will have to work a little to install this. If you are adding to a rooftop make sure you have a 1hp pump. You will need to make sure you have a diverter, and the proper hoses and fittings to work with your current manufacturer’s fittings, and they can be a bit off in size for both panel manufacturer and pool manufacturer. We used a lot of plumbing tape and caulking to prevent leaks. Leaks mean loss of air and less pressure going back to pool Do your research and get what you need ahead of time. The instruction booklet gives you the gist of it, but it helped reading a little more on pool forums. So, it works, it’s a pain in the butt to install, so patience and a beer or glass of wine will get you through!

doesn't heat the water at all
The pipe on each end is a straight through pipe, which means the water simply runs through the pipe and out the other side without even going down the length of the matt and comes out just as cold as it went in. Really poor craftsmen ship, didn't warm up the water at all.

Bad quality
I have a SunQuest 20" and wanted to add a 2nd, I ordered this one because the 20" was out of stock. I regret my choice. This product is very low quality . As soon as I installed it I new it was going to be trouble. 1st use, it was leaking, not from the installation but from the product it sel. The plastic is very thin, not comparable at all with SunQuest which is tick and solid. I hope it will last at least this summer. Can't recommend this porduct go with SunQuest leaking
