Great quality product, just the strap size is not big enough.
The product quality is great, the only thing is the size of the strap around the calf is just not big enough! Luckily there is the long strap at the top that you can wrap around further, but need tape to secure the lower part a bit better.

Description says "Senior" but "Junior" sizes sent
I've ordered this item twice now and unlike with others here, they showed up in pairs each time. My problem is they keep sending me Jr. sizes. Now, I have short(er) lower leg bones so I've tried ordering the 11" and subsequently the 12" sizes. The straps are too short and don't reach around the back of my calves. Using tape instead is quite simply ridiculous on a new pair of shin pads! Unlike with other Amazon items, the description never changes from "Senior" when selecting any of the available sizes. Anyone know what length(s) come in Senior sizes with long enough hook-and-loop fasteners?

solid value shin pads
These are well made shin pads for hockey. My son is using them to play roller hockey and he says they fit well. I have seen him take shots and slashes to the legs without issue. The stiching and padding is high quality. I like the thick telco straps which keep the pads in place. I have had CCM tacks pads in the past for ice and roller hockey and would put these on par with them and they are a fraction of the price.

1 shin pad. Not the pair. (Update)
Literally came with one shin pad. Never been this disappointed with a purchase before. I loath this experience so much I’m writing my first review. 4 star update: I asked Amazon for a replacement and they sent me the pair that I wanted. Minus one star for the ordeal.

Small if you have hockey calves….
Lower straps super small, Can’t strap them. I Just use hockey tape to make them work. Besides that a good value

Perfect fit
Great product, used for pitching in adult softball

Main velcro strap too short
If you have any calf muscle, not enough strap. My 13 yr old daughter needed velcro extensions on main strap.

Fine choice for competitive hockey
STX isn't a huge name yet in hockey like the other familiar labels however the US based company is a top brand and major innovator in lacrosse gear. They have a small presence in the NHL, mainly for their high quality sticks. Their protective gear is top notch too. We're a hockey family, all lifelong goalies, but this time I wasn't ordering hockey gear for a goalie or for use in hockey either. I've been looking for shin protection for bicycle trials and didn't like the expensive options and flimsy padding I was seeing in bicycle oriented shin guards. I thought, hockey shin guards might do the trick. When I handled the STX shin guards for the first time I knew immediately that they would be excellent for hockey, but overkill for what I was looking for. These pads provide way more protection than I really need in bicycle trials. The pair I ordered was the 16 inch RX 3.1 Surgeon shin guards. According to the official STX website, they make a couple tiers of protective hockey equipment geared to either "recreational" or "competitive" hockey. These ones were listed in the product category for competitive hockey gear. They certainly felt lot more substantial than basic entry-level shin guards. It looks like this model was built for speed and comfort while skating, solid for blocking shots and will hold up well. The shin guards run true to size, consistent with the conventional shin guard sizing method (while seated with leg at 90 degree angle, measure length from center of kneecap to top of skate). The elasticated strap and the wrap-around-the-calf section, both fasten with Velcro (see included picture). These shin guards, like all others, are made for use with hockey socks and tape, but I wanted to see how well they might hold in place with just the straps. I tightened them down as best as I could, didn't have a problem with them feeling uncomfortable, but never got them fully locked to my shins with the straps alone. No surprise there - hockey socks and tape are needed. The inside of the shin guards are nicely padded and the inner pad is removable (picture included). I like that feature as it makes drying gear and washing pads so much easier. Shin pads have come a long way since the days of a plastic shell stitched directly to half inch thick felt! They were the best hockey shin pads I've handled, I was reluctant to send them back, but they're really optimized for hockey and not suitable for my use. Since they are bulky and came in a big box, the cost of return isn't trivial. In my case that return shipping cost was nearly 1/3 the cost of the item itself. In hindsight it might have been wiser to have kept the pads and gifted them to a hockey buddy. After all, if the goalie gives his defenseman a great pair of shin guards, he might feel a lot more comfortable blocking shots in the rare event that I'm ever caught out of position! The Pros: - At time of purchase the price was great - lower than other hockey shin guards listed at the time and better than any decent shin protection I could find in the bike sports category. - True to size. - Geared for competitive hockey - so I'd expect them to perform and hold up better than entry-level pads. - Comfortable. - Easy to dry. The Cons: - Can be costly to return - so take care to pick out the correct size. Overall: Recommended for hockey. If any of this info helped you please tap the Helpful button. Thanks!

When failing to read gets you ONE SHIN PAD.
Well that ad sure was misleading. Only one shin pad in the box. Never thought I'd see the day where shin pads were sold a la carte. The pad will be sent back.

GREAT PROTECTION
These shin pads are manufactured very well with the right amount of protection for your shins and knees. Could use another wrap around strap on the bottom. Easy to clean inserts ensure proper cleaning is easy.
