Plenty of heat!

This burner offers plenty of heat! It gets my big cast iron wok smokin hot. I'm not skilled enough to use much more heat than this to load up a big pan. Without an hvac system, I wouldn't want to anyway. It is very lightweight. If you slide your pan on the top of the stove as you cook, you will want to learn proper technique. Pick it up, son. The flame is consistent to the end of the butane canister. I definitely recommend this product. PS. ...don't forget to buy a can of gas, as they are not included.

Best Butane Portable Stove in the Marketplace

This is by far the best butane portable stove available in the marketplace. The extra cost compared to other brands is well worth it. However, I only gave it four stars due to the carrying case, not the stove itself. The carrying case is cheaply made with especially poor quality latches. I actually returned the first stove I purchased due to the cheap latches on the case being broken when I received the first stove. Iwatani, please re-design the carrying case so that it reflects the quality of your stove.

It works but is quite light and flimsy considering the high price

I was surprised as to how light and thin the metal is on this stove. It was not built to last (what ls is new?). You can just about turn out a half decent stir fry. It would work better if it had a couple of rings of fire that would prevent "cold spots" in the wok.

Great Stove!

This stove works great for indoors, the counter underneath never gets more than a little warm and my skillets and cookware heat up VERY quick!

Zen stove

Love this product. I like looking at it,it beautiful (eye of the beholder) made in Japan I'm a fan of Japanese products . it's simple seems like it's been around for awhile and hasn't changed if it works don't fix it . I bought it for emergency back up not my daily cooker so I can't review that aspect . as a machine great quality. I would probably clean it after each use like pots and SUCH.

great van-camping stove

Great, simple to use, little stove. Used it inside my van (window cracked for ventilation) sitting on a cooler and outside at campsites on picnic tables. It puts out a lot of heat and boils water FAST. Flame is adjustable for all kinds of cooking. It was cold and windy outside, so I used the plastic carry case as a V-shaped wind break and that worked well. The case is a bit flimsy, but I'm treating it gently so it will hopefully last a long time. I like how easy it is to put the butane canister in with the magnet locking it in place, and easy to take it out (let it cool first). Stores easily in the case and doesn't take up much space. I put the butane and a spare bottle in the pocket on the van door, but cooked several times and never needed the spare.

Small gas stove packs a good punch.

Love this gas stove. It’s small, and very hot, for it’s size (15000 BTU). It’s very easy to operate, and clean. I can easily regulate the heat, or turn the heat completely off, if my wok gets too hot. Then I just turn the gas on again when I need crazy heat once more. The only downside in my opinion is the plastic feet that is quite slippery. If you put the gas stove on a hard and even surface like a table, it will easily move around if nudged. If I were to move my wok a bit and nudge the “wok stand” the gas stove will move. The gas stove should have rubber pads on the feet of the burner to make it more difficult to move. Instead I’m in the process of making a “plate” of cork, that the gas burner will stand on. This “plate” will hopefully prevent the gas burner from moving too much when using it with my wok. The plastic feet is my only complaint. Other than that, the gas stove is absolutely great, and has become my favorite tool when frying, cooking, and using a wok. It’s much more effective than an electronic hot plate. Also, I can take it with me, if I would like to cook someplace else, go car camping, or what ever. I highly recommend this gas stove. It’s awesome, and well worth the price.

Beautiful and functionally nearly perfect.

Great heat output and nice simmer control. Note that, unlike Japan, this model, like most other butane stoves, is not rated for indoor use in North America. In summer, the stove may stop working intentionally (safety feature) because of butane canister overheating caused by prolonged use and by the heat conducting plate. Thus, always have two canisters on hand to swap them out. In winter, the plate will prevent the canister from cooling too much, maintaining the butane in a gas state. Overall, a bit pricey, but a well-built Japanese-made stove.

Great performance if the price tag is within your budget

Have been using butane stoves for over 20 years. Unlike other stoves that progressively get weaker as the butane is used up, this stove maintains a high output throughout use. Carrying case does feel cheap, but the unit itself has a premium feel. Not sure how long the magnetic mechanism will last compared to the usual manual engage. Like others have commented, because of the high output, this stove can get really hot especially if you use a large pan/pot. I learned this after a night of hotpot and found the butane canister scorching hot. To remedy, I'd just have to ensure that the pot does not hang over the butane canister's compartment.

Bought for my wok

This Iwatani is a great heat source for wok cooking if you don't have natural gas or propane. It's not approved for indoor use however for the short time it's in operation I'm not concerned with using it in my home. I operate it under my direct vent range hood. It sits on top of my ceramic cook top when in use. I have a 12 “round bottom and a 14” flat bottom wok. It accommodates either well although I have ordered a wok ring to provide more stability for the round bottom wok. The stove has plenty of reserve heat for wok cooking and flame adjustments are precise. The case is cheaply made and the latches barely work. It's a $148.00 stove with a 50 cent case. Buyers should be aware this item is not eligible for return. I have no intention of returning it but was not aware of this when I ordered the stove.

Great burner, well made and works

I have cooked on gas my whole life until I moved to Canada, the electric stovetop has proved problematic for me. I was watching Marion’s Kitchen on YouTube and saw her cooking on a gas burner and wondered where I could buy one (I’ve never been camping so didn’t even know they existed). Amazon, of course, stepped up, I chose this one for the good write ups. It’s amazing, it has changed my life (yes I know overly dramatic) but I can finally cook again on a stovetop. The butane lasts a fair while (Woods $9.99 for 3), the heat is easily turned up or down , user friendly. Fantastic piece of equipment. The only thing I need to think about is how sad my life is that I get excited by a gas burner.

Best tool in my kitchen

We have a ceramic top stove which, by nature, takes a long time to warm up and to cool down. Put on top of it, this little burner allows us to use rounded bottom pans and gain absolute and immediate control over the heat level when cooking. Absolutely fantastic. And it fits perfectly with out modern kitchen design. It's also way easier to clean than some high end propane stove. Plus butane gas is cheap. Only complaint is about the plastic feets which slide too easily but we just put some hot glue on them and the stove stays firmly in place now.
