FEB. 15 -- IMPORTANT UPDATE, AFTER TWO DAYS OF USE: The sole of the boot is thick and heavy, which is OK. What is not OK in my opinion is that the sole extends about half an inch BEYOND the actual fabric upper part of the boot, including in front, at the toe. At first I tripped THREE TIMES while climbing stairs because that half-inch toe extension caught on the lip of the stair as I pulled my cast-booted left foot up towards the next step. Although I probably could train myself to alter my stair-climbing gait, I decided to cut off the extended part of the front of the sole with an extremely sharp pair of scissors (and final trimming with a razor blade), because that half-inch extension is HAZARDOUS for me. So, be warned -- if you can use scissors, a razor blade or a thin saw blade to cut off the front of the sole extension, this cast boot remains 5 stars in my opinion. But if you can't or don't want to trim the front, then you might want to avoid buying a cast boot like this. I hope Bilt-Rite Mastex is reading this!! They need to re-design the sole to remove the extension in front. ----------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW: Before making this purchase, I compared the details of about 7-8 cast boots. This boot had a brief, one-star review that criticized the sizing information or lack thereof, but I bought it anyway because it seemed suitable and the price was the lowest. Less that day later I received the XL boot, and it is exactly right for my purposes. My shoe size is 11½. I had a plantar wart frozen the previous day, and I needed a large boot to hold a fuzzy slipper. It is cold here, so I also needed a closed-toe boot. This XL boot has a very strong sole, tough fabric, convenient Velcro straps, and it closes perfectly around my slipper. So, 5 Stars, no problem, nice product. I was not able to find S, M or L versions on Amazon, but that turned out well in this case, because the L size would have been too small.
