I'm a believer.I am drinking the koolaid but PT taught me these can weaken ankle muscles.
Update: Years later these are still great braces. I machine wash them and air dry them. I have enough PAIRS as I use on both feet together at the same time. I used to just use on my problem foot but turns out in my case after physical therapy identified problems I was having with other foot and leg through hip was created because of the YEARS of extra supporting with the good side. Really who knew? I didn't. Original Review: Well made compared to similar items others sell that look a lot like this brand. This comes in two styles one with side stablizers or stays and this one without. I bought this one without because my foot problem which has lead to an ankle problem has as much to do with the foot than it does the ankle itself. I don't roll my ankles as much as they are in a lot of pain due to foot surgery gone wrong in 2010. That led to the otuside arch failing and numbness and pain from ankle to end of foot on that side that has never improved. This brace definitely HELPS !!! so why not 5 stars as in according to Amazon LOVE IT. I hate it...just having to put the dang thing on is annoying. LOL. I find taking it off even more annoying. You pretty much have to unlace the whole thing to get it off your foot and then relace it the next day to put it on. Heaven forbid my (where wer those itty little violinists when you need them playing here...) take it off and on more than once a day for say swimming/showers/changing clothes or any number of good reasons to have to remove it and then put it back on. I say slightly with tongue in cheek because it does help. For some reason as soon as I began using it the day it arrived my whole leg has been in some kind of adjustmental pain and ache routine. Usually within an hour of walking about with it on that subsides. I bought the two in white because I hate black shoes in summer when the sun heats up the foot something awful. BUT white is going to be difficult to keep stain free so I thought I'd probably order a black one this fall as winter sets in and long pants are in fashion again...yeah BLACK would be fine..did I mention our three long haired shedding cats who's hair is attrracted to everything BLACK but especially to velcro...yeah. So the only real reasons I dock a star is the padded tongue is a tad cheap and I can not get the wrinkles out of the heal area along where you pull up the ribbon work. These creases and the lowest eyelets and extra layers of finishing fabric can be difficult ot keep flattened in your shoes to prevent pain due to this area digging in. I'm use to tightening my shoes to provide extra support to the ankle so in time I hope this will work itself out but for now I have to take a lot of care to get the shoes on over it. I use a shoe horn...one of the super long ones seems to work best. I do have to adjust it some days as it suggests might be the case by pulling up the side velcro supports. I also discovered I had to remove a layer of support I was used to using with this as the combination of support hose then normal but tight fitting sock than usual (a smart wool sock) along with yet another open toe support or arch band either one this last two had to go. It does of course widen your shoe compared to the other shoe but when your aim is RELIEF...it's a small compromise...or you can always where on both feet thinking of the good foot as in sympathy and showing support. It's a solid 4 stars maybe worthy of 5 but Amazon needs to come up with a new definition of what 5 stars means..yet now and again I LOVE something:))) May this help all you who seek it's help. BUT watch the price it jumps up and down by as much as doubling over night to only find it yet again for the under 20 I paid for it and for some odd ball reason the white and black choices on the same page may vary in price on any given day too. Not knowing if it would help I didn't want to spend 80 bucks on a pair of these...one and a spare for washing...after seeing just one day the price I'd put it in at 21 each had jumped to 39 and two days later I found it at less than the first day. Today it's 27 and change????? So for those who do care about their purse....and you have a few days to spend watching for the best deal I suspect you might be rewarded. I wouldn't have fussed with the 2 or 3 dollar variations but 100% was a bit over the top. (This was the same item as I tracked it only via my placed in order page and back and forth with some looking around. I think that is when I discovered they come with and without stays and I didn't need the additional stays I felt. You may however as no doubt many of the different folks seeking this product has almost as many different needs and reasons. (My story so to speak is I feel like I've been on a merry go round whirlwind all my life with that one mean kids act of unkindness. . I broke my foot in highschool after a creepy huge kid wearing work boots went out of his way to step hard on my foot and right in front of a teacher. Today that kid would be held responsible but back in the mid 60's not so much. Fast forward 40 and now more than 50 years later and that foot has had surgery due to bone pieces dislodging and moving into the foot bones themselves. But surgery went wrong itself. So low and behold my ANKLES on both feet are WEAK. WHY are they weak will in big part to wearing compression and ankle supports. I kid you not. (Some may have heard how bad it may be to wear a neck brace for more than a day or two because it causes ones neck muscles to weaken. It's the same context here.) So I've been attempting to strengthen my ankles without wearing these supports but now and again I have to include these jewels. But do pay attention folks if you only need a support for a short while make sure it's short as possible. If you have a chronic condtion such as mine make sure from the start you also include muscle building excercises for your ankle and calves. I'm paying for my ingnorance on this one and even though I do these excercises they haven't made up for all the years of wearing these or similar use of products. Now having said that I am also searching for an extension style that goes further up the leg and would be great if it went all the way to the knee. I haven't found anything to date. I found a collar of sorts that ties similar via grommets and laces but only goes about half way up the leg and seems to always be on back order here on Amazon. I am going to attempt to make my own pattern following this item to extend up my leg that I can tuck inside this foot wrap. I'll have to play around to get the size just so as of course our legs change shape throughout the calf up to the knee. I have severe edema which is chronic and these braces cause too much pooling as my PT specialist for that condition explains and possible more reason behind ankle weakness too. So the best solution is to counter intuitively extend on up the leg similar lacing but at graduated degrees of pressure. No my compression sleeves do not seem to manage this pooling as well as will the extention style garment. Anyway too bad they don't make this in a knee high version. I would sign up immediately. Now of course that means I will also need to continue to excercise to keep by ankle muscles strong and my calf muscles too and possibly face knee isses next.By the way I did not know the kid and he was an upper classman a Junior I think to my freshman. I so sympathize with children who are bullied. I am thrilled when I hear a school takes a stand against this as a child growing up in MT mostly rural schools and even the city schools like Bozeman and Billings I saw way too much cruel bullying going on and tolerated as in they all looked the other way. Today many still do but many have stepped up and took notice and attempt to punish those who should be held responsible and help lookout for those who have been hurt emotionally and physically both.)

I wish I bought this months ago
I have been living with ankle pain for the past 5 months. I’m getting older (52); so I don’t heal as quickly as when I was 20/30 years old. I have a pinched nerve that travels around my inner ankle bone. The pain will shoot in that area, my shin and the side (inner) leg simultaneously. It’s horrible combination of burning, a pinched nerve, and some tingling. My high arches are collapsing, and prior to the pinched nerve a stretched or torn a ligament in the same area. This brace has helped stabilize and I NOW can walk around for 8 hours at work w/ no pinched nerve flaring up. If you are experiencing the same symptoms or similar give this a try. I wish I hadn’t waited so long, the pain was so bad I had to ice, lift my leg up, stop in my tracks, and just wait for it to pass. Terrible way to live, but I do pair this brace with my Hokas. They have great arch support.

Ankle Supoort
I am looking at an ankle replacement in the next 2 months and currently wear this brace anytime I will be on my feet a lot - shopping, walking the dog etc. The brace really helps diminish my pain level (vs. not wearing it) . I will likely wear it post surgery as well just for support. It does not let you foot have a lot of up and down range of motion, but enough to push down on the gas pedal. Side to side is supported as well. The down side is that it takes a while to get on and off. First the laces then the Velcro, but that is what gives it it's stability. I haven't tried any other supportive braces, but I do like this one very much.

Provides stability but a pain to get on and off
My PT recommended this to me to step down from the big boot I was given after I badly sprained my ankle. The brace does help provide stability, though I still have to wear the boot from time to time as I am on my feet a lot at my job. Hopefully I will be able to solely wear this soon. I like the velcro and how it wraps around your foot, then comes up on the side of your foot to provide stability, and the velcro that goes across the top to hold everything in place. I really hate the rest of this brace, though. To get in and out of it, you have to almost completely unlace the entire brace to step in. The bottom is really tight and I have a difficult time getting my foot in and out of it sometimes. It is also hard to get inside a shoe- my shoe is all stretched out because of wearing this brace. It does the job, but I really hate how it takes forever to get this thing on and off.

More support than cheap braces from the drug store
My daughter plays competitive soccer. She sprained one ankle about a year ago. We started with athletic tape, then moved on to what seemed to be higher end braces from the drug store. The tape would loosen up from sweat and motion before the first half was over. The braces just didn't provide enough support. She ended up rolling it a second time. On recommendation of another player, we tried a Med Spec brace. This provided her enough time to heal. She has worn her brace on and off for 6 months worth of 3x/week practices, and 1-2 games per weekend; strictly for the first few months, now pretty much when she's going into tougher sessions. It has kept her injury free. She probably doesn't need at all anymore, but we have heard that once you roll it, you will do it again, so using in tough sessions seems to still make sense.

Same as the ones issued by surgeons post op
I had a left ankle fusion over a decade ago. The pain is constant, and always in the back of my mind when doing physical activity. I was issued one of these by my surgeon after my aircast was no longer needed. I was able to perform most physical activities while wearing this. Eventually it wore out, and I couldn't find another one. The VA was issuing a whole leg cast like brace which was very invasive. I used KT Tape and assorted other braces to bridge the gap. I always use RICE after physical activity to mitigate swelling. I wished I had this brace! I ordered it and confirmed it is the exact brace that was prescribed to me post op. This is hands down the best brace I have ever had and am very confident in my ankle stability. Short of a surgical air as, you cannot get more stable. Game on!

Great Support
Great support allowed me to move from air-cast to Ankle Stabilize with ease; after breaking my ankle on Dec 20, 2022.

Fabulous support
Love these ankle braces. I have depended on them for years now…and bought the white pair to accompany my white socks of my new soccer kit. Played multiple indoor games with these and haven’t sprained my ankle like many times before without braces. They fit into my tight, undersized, indoor shoes and outside cleats as well.

Size Matters
It was a bit hard to decide which size would be best; but other Google searches helped locate sizing info. My foot is euro size 42, 8.5 men's or 10.5 wide women's, more or less. The 'Large' fits me well, but is close to being too large. The design works well. I like the stability and support it gives. It is comfortable to wear for a couple of hours. It is better to use one's own muscles. But to prevent falling or re-injuring the ligament, especially on uneven ground, this seems to help a lot to walk more 'normally' and not take care with every foot fall.

Right for me
I have been using these ankle stabiliser for the past 6 years - started using after ankle surgery, & I can honestly say I would be lost without out it! This has saved me from having my ankle fused - so grateful to have found this one suits my needs perfectly.
