Good outside generator transfer switch panel
First, you have to realize that there are probably few, if any other outside rated generator transfer panels available for purchase. The Reliance units are nice, but they must be mounted inside. So, if you need to mount an outside unit, this is one of the few games in town. This is a Square D box with the usual Square D quality with one exception. The silver metal "interlock" device is flimsy and barely gets the job done. It does work, but must be bent and manipulated to fit over the two main breakers. If you want to maximize the number of circuits to be run on your generator, you can use the QOT tandem breakers and transfer up to eight circuits. The QO double pole 240V breakers will take up four slots that could be used for tandem breakers. So, if you want to transfer your A/C circuit, you will only have four tandem slots left for other circuits. My only real complaint is that I had to agonize over the circuits to transfer to the box. A Generator transfer box with around 10 - 12 slots would have been much easier for me to get the circuits I wanted to transfer. Installation is not a trivial task. I basically engineered the installation and then turned it over to an electrician to install. It took him five full hours to install the panel, mostly because my service panel is flush mount and the wires had to be pulled through the top of the main panel and into a gutter for wire nutting and then run in conduit to the Square D box. I also mounted a Reliance Controls watt meter in a NEMA plastic weather proof box next to the panel. What I have ended up learning about the entire home generator installation process is how much I had to learn. It is not something to be taken lightly. There are a lot of pitfalls and potentially dangerous mistakes that can easily be made in the installation process. A lot of electricians are not well-versed in doing this and you need to make sure you understand every single aspect of how it is going to be installed. My two cents anyway. I also want to thank the people who took the time to answer my questions on this site.

Finally found what I was looking for!!!!
I'm really pleased with this panel. I don't know why it's this way exactly, but it's SOOOOO hard to shop for a manual generator disconnect for some reason. Especially one that's outdoor rated which I needed for this application since my main panel is on the outside of the house. I checked Home Depot, Lowes, online, and at a local electrical supply store all before buying this switch. Everybody seems focused on the much more expensive automatic whole-house generator setups they will sell you for thousands of dollars, or the cheap indoor only "pre-wired" six circuit system. Neither option was what I wanted, since I already owned a generator, had my panel outside, and didn't want to spend thousands of dollars for an occasional requirement. Now that I've installed this one I am very pleased with the results. I still need to plug into my actual generator (probably tomorrow) and do a GEN powered test run, but everything is running fine on utility power right now (including this computer I'm typing on). I replaced two slots of main panel breakers with a new 100A breaker, and fed 2 AWG wire into the provided 100A QO breaker. I ran 10 AWG for the ground and neutral. The four actual circuit breakers are not included and sold separately because what you use depends on what you need on the actual usage end. But the 100A and 30A with mechanical lockout are included. I bought four tandem 20A QO breakers from the local Lowes and am happy with my 8 circuits. I have my fridge, microwave, living room, bedroom, blower fan for the heater, and some other lights all available for generator power. Perfect for the almost annual ice storm and week long power outage we get here in Arkansas. I also freed up two more slots/four circuits on my main panel if I decide I need to run more circuits later (since my panel is basically full already, as you can see). I love the fact that this box already had the generator plug installed. Be mindful that it's a four prong L14-30P connection. You can hook it up to the three prong generator or RV cable but you need an adapter. Adapters are also available here on Amazon. That's how my setup is, since my generator is a relatively small 4,000 peak watt generator (3,500 running). But that's all the power I need, honestly. My house is pretty efficient, and I already had the generator so there wasn't much I could do and had to buy the adapter. But if you don't own a generator yet, get one with the four prong outlet if you want to use this panel without buying an extra adapter. See my pics for how the switch is setup. I wish the Amazon pictures included the INSIDE of the panel. I still wasn't entirely sure what I was getting. But now I know. There's a safety cover (and on my main panel as well) but they are not included in the pics because that would defeat the purpose! Good luck with your generator transfer switch install. It can be a little intimidating at first, but it's really not too bad. You're essentially just bypassing the breaker. By the way, this setup prevents you from backfeeding into the utility as well, which could endanger a lineman's life. That gives me a little peace of mind. Keeping a fridge running is not worth risking someone's life! Do it properly if you're going to hook up a generator to your house!

Cheapest option for whole house portable generator hookup
This is exactly what I needed so when the power goes out I can hook up my portable generator and power my house. If you are not experienced with electrical or have any doubts, definitely get a licensed electrician to install this. The wasn't that difficult to install but it was very involved. I have a main panel and then I have a sub-panel in my garage. I put this in between the main and the sub-panel so I could power the important stuff in my house. My sub-panel had a 60amp 2-pole breaker that I moved from the main panel to this box. I then got a 100amp 2-pole breaker to go from the main to this panel and connected the 2 100amp breakers with 2awg wire. I extended the cables from the sub-panel to this one and put everything in electrical conduit. The whole install took me probably about 4 hours over a couple of days, had to go to the store a couple of times to get supplies. The only issue I had was with the small metal thing that only allows 1 breaker to be on at a time. I had to file the end down a little because it wasn't allowing the breaker to be fully on. Other than that this was great. We had a power outage the other week and this worked great to power my house. This is definitely the cheapest option to be able to hook a generator up to your house but you still get the quality of Square-D.

Exactly what I needed...
I spent a lot of time researching how to hook up this manual transfer switch to a 100AMP Sub-panel. Great value for the money, but if you want to maximize your circuits - you’ll want the 4 branch slots to be Tandem breakers. The box is set up to take 4 QOT breakers (hook on back)... The QO (Clip) style are available, since they are meant for older panels, but they can be expensive.... 40 to 80 dollars each.. I will mount this when the weather warms up, but my plan is to add 3/4 pressure treated piece of plywood between the house and transfer switch to allow for a bigger gap when hooking up the generator cord to the bottom of the transfer switch. Without a gap it looks like it might be tight to get the cord in.

In the interest of safety
If you want to power a portion of your home from a backup generator this is a good device to use. It will handle 30 amps 240v from the generator and will prevent you from back feeding the power grid if installed and used properly. We are using it to power furnace, refrigerator, freezer and a sump pump. Does the job safely.

Portable generator connection panel
I like this line of products to begin with I used this one to connect my portable generator to the house and I am very satisfied with the final results

A high-quality, affordable transfer switch
I was searching for an affordable manual transfer switch to connect a portable generator to my house in case of an emergency, and this product delivered in both quality and pricing. The rugged construction, compact size, and outstanding value for the money make this a very good choice for anyone wanting to establish backup power on a modest budget. The individual components alone would cost 3 to 4X the price of this complete assembly. Would highly recommend!

works good
this was what I was looking for, most gen panels, are 30amp hydro and 30 amp gen, this was exactly what I was looking for.
