If you want accurate location of holes in sheetrock this is your tool
I've made over 45 receded lights locations and just as many for outlets. If it wasn't for this tool my holes wouldn't be so accurate. Hands down it pays for itself if you make a wrong hole in sheetrock it just cost you time and money. I'm not a contractor but I had to redo my whole condo and thank you for having an ingenious tool that saves me time effort and aggravation of course money too thank you

Not for wafer lights
When ordering I didn't fully understand the way it worked. I was hoping the light tool would help me with the install of wafer lights, but it only works for can lights. The outlet tool worked out fine for me, though I really didn't have that many outlets to do. They're clever, they work by putting a magnet on the electrical box, then install drywall, then a 2nd magnet on outside of drywall finds the 1st magnet and you cut the hole around box. It doesn't always lock on straight, which defeats the purpose a little bit since the tool is intended for precision cuts. That's probably part of the learning curve, though. And therein lies the catch-22 for this item - if you're only doing a few lights or outlet boxes, it's tough to justify the cost and time it takes to figure it out. But it's not really a tool for professionals either. Either way, practice on a piece of scrap first. In the end, I'm glad I'm using wafer lights instead of can lights.

Pretty good just need to be careful...
I do just about every home improvement on my house and do alot of woodworking, but one thing I don't like doing it drywall. Only task I don't like. Well that and getting on the roof. But with drywall, one of the biggest pains is cutting out boxes. So tools like this are always welcome. It's a fantastic idea really, pop on part in the box, put your drywall up, pop on the other tool piece and mark it. Actually works quite well. I like how it works, like how easy it is. Only thing I noticed, you need to take care putting on the outside tool part, it can easily be turned, or be "off". As you can see from the pictures I posted. Not a defect in the product, just something you need to be aware of. I wish it locked in a little better. Overall, a great idea and would recommend. Sure going to help me cut up drywall.

I sure wish I had these years ago and happy I have them now
To earn money to attend university, I used to work for a drywall company hanging and finishing drywall. We didn't have these back then. Now that I'm ready to hang drywall in a cabin I'm building, I'm very happy to have these "Calculated Industries 8125 Value Pack - Blind Mark and Center Mark Drywall Install Tools." I'll start hanging drywall in a week or so but I used a piece of 5/8 inch drywall that I will be using on my ceilings to get a feel as to how well these work as I have quite a few wall plugs, switch boxes, and recessed lighting cans I'll need to cut out. I figure if these center marks work well on 5/8 inch, they should work even better on 1/2 drywall that I will use on my walls. The results of my testing is these center marks work amazingly well! As you can see in my testing photos, the center marks line up perfectly even with the thicker 5/8 inch drywall test piece. The previous said, here are my pros and cons: PROS • The wall box center marks use spring loaded clips to hold them into the wall box. They hold tight so they're not going to be falling out when you go to put up the drywall. • They have powerful magnets. I found that they centered perfectly even with the thicker 5/8 inch drywall. • The light can center marks will adjust to cans of varying depths. The center marks align with the center of the can perfectly even with the thicker drywall. • Each set comes with enough box and can inserts to hang a full sheet of drywall in all scenarios in my cabin. In my case, my kitchen ceiling has six recessed light cans. The two light can tools are perfect for locating the cans because there will be two cans per sheet of drywall. • They're easy to use. • These will be real time savers as I used to have to take time to measure and mark the centers of boxes and light cans and mark them on the drywall before hanging. Now, I just put these in and hang - no more measuring required. CONS • I can't think of any. Overall, I'm very pleased with these center mark drywall installation tools. They're worth every penny of the price all day long.

An ingenious little guide..
The media could not be loaded. This is a tool for neophyte drywall installers. I'm no professional, but I've installed enough drywall over the years that I'm not intimidated by needing to cut holes for electrical boxes or can lights. But for someone installing drywall who's never before measured to cut such holes, this set of magnetic guides will likely prove a lifesaver. These guides are placed into the single receptacle/switch box where they hold by clips to the outside of the box, self-centering in the middle of the box. Drywall is then hung over the box/can and with the drywall screwed in, the other magnet is placed on the exterior of the drywall and moved until it finds the magnet in the electric box on the other side. Now here are a few considerations. First, most electric boxes are installed to be flush with the exterior of the hung drywall. This means that the dryall likely needs to be only partially screwed down if this system is to work well. Tightening the screws too much, or installing too many screws before cutting the holes for the boxes will lead to problems. Second, there's probably 1/8 inch of play possible when using this system. You will get a close, but perhaps not a perfect fit using this system. Of course, some degree of error is often encountered when you measure for your hole as well. Third, these are deisgned for single gang electrical boxes. I suppose they might help with double, triple, etc. gangs, but they're best for single gangs. Fourth, see the video I've included for an idea of how well these hold in half-inch drywall. They do fairly well. I haven't tried them in 5/8 inch drywall yet.
