Fixed my 21 gallon harbor freight air compressor (#61454)

My air compressor would fill to 40-60 PSI and then cut out, tripping the internal circuit breaker. - Not a start capacitor issue (this model only has a single start capacitor) as the motor starts and runs fine for the first few minutes. - Didn't seem to be the cold start valve either since the compressor would start and begin charging without issue. - Didn't seem to be check valve issue as the compressor was charging and holding air just fine. - Sprayed a bit of soapy water on the obvious places. No leaks. - Hooked up a kill-a-watt and there was no high current draw indicating the motor was cooked (stable at around 13 amps). - The pressure never got close to the cut off pressure of 125PSI, so the pressure switch seemed unlikely. So by process of elimination, I figured it could be could well be overload protector itself. The switch that came with the unit was rated @ 15A (Joemex 77 Series). Switched it out for this one and the unit is back to working perfectly again. Kept an eye on the kill-a-watt meter for the first few cycles just to be sure there was no high power draw - still stable at 13A and filled the tank to 125 psi with no complaints. Just be aware that this switch is rated 5A higher than the one that comes with the original machine, which means it is now capable of drawing a full 20A before it will cut off. It shouldn't draw more than 13-14A if the motor is healthy, but use your own judgement on whether this is something you are comfortable with. Or just look for a better 15A breaker than the crappy one a lot of compressors ship with.

Worked great !

Harbor freight compressor kept shutting off after 30 seconds. This was the problem. Didn't look exactly like the old one but worked great.

fixed my harbor freight air compressor

Easy swap for an almost perfect fit part. I had to crimp on some shielded female spade connectors in order to swap the circuit breaker. The factory part has screw mounts and the compressor wires had ring terminals. Fixed my model 61454 compressor for $5.00. This appears to be a common failure point on these compressors. I'm glad my internet search guided me to this part.

Works to fix Central Pneumatic 21 gallon 2.5HP compressor

I bought a Harbor freight 21 gallon 2.5HP air compressor 2 years ago and it would turn on and stop, had to keep resetting the switch. this year I decided to replace the switch and low and behold it works. Before I was told to check the valves and I did, then was told it was the capacitor and replaced it, then the cold start valve. Finally I was told to switch to synthetic oil. With all the above done the compressor still started then stopped. I took the plunge and purchased this circuit breaker. As soon as I turned the unit on then let air out it started to run and go up to 125psi. Central Pneumatic®- Item#61454 Reset switch replacement.

Fixed Constant running shutoff of HF compressor

The only complaint about my HF air compressor was the constant irritating running shutoff of the factory overload protector - seems this is a constant complaint. This replacement solved my problem. I can shoot paint and blow out the garage dust without constantly having to push the overload button, which should not trip so often. It hasn't tripped yet.

and man am I glad I did

I replaced the circuit breaker on my Ridgid 5 gallon wheelbarrow compressor, and man am I glad I did. The origional was 17amp breaker and the induction motor would trip the breaker constantly. I've ran this breaker in my compressor for about 2 weeks without any issue. If you need a thermal protecting / 20a current circuit breaker for your compressor, this is a great buy!
