Usefulness

Have had one of these for years and decided I needed a second one on another car key ring. You never know when you need to open a can of paint or a beer bottle. And disassemble something away from home. Very cool tool.

great tool for the price, and SOG if you are reading this, can you check out the last bit at the bottom?

So Im going to be a bit unconventional... im going to post the Cons first and make some possible recommended changes for future designs in the small change that SOG actually sees this. Cons: pretty tiny to be honest. like, the size of a key, which i guess is good so you can fit it in your pocket easier, but come on SOG, you could have made it slightly bigger and probably incorporated a few more tools. Pros: the tiny factor does play a but into the pros too, it fits easily in your pocket. there is nothing poking through your jeans its very discrete. it has an abundance of tools (12 to be exact), it has both small and large flat head screw drivers, a cord cutting tool (not sure how effective it is... might need to file it a bit more to make it sharper, doesn't seem that sharp), 3 different wrenches, a bottle opener, mini pry bar, nail remover, 1/4 hex driver, a philips tip screw driver, and lastly a knife sharpener. This thing is nice, you have no idea how often im working on something and then need a screw driver, and frankly, im lazy, i dont want to walk to my tool chest to dig out a screw driver, or when im cutting something and my knife gets dull i have to dig out a knife sharpener, now? i have all that on this handy little multitool. some possible changes?: get rid of the pry bar in favor of something else because you can do the same with one of the screw drivers. make the philips tip more defined, how it is, it looks like a flat tip with two nubs to make a Philips head. either get rid of the 1/4 wrench or the 1/4 hex bit driver, if the whole multitool is made slightly bigger you can possibly get rid of the 1/4 wrench and have another size instead having both seems redundant and a waste of space.

Better than expected!

I'm new to the SOG brand and recently got a pocket knife and got more curious about the quality of other items from the brand SOG. I ordered this small multitool expected to hang it on my tactical bag until I opened it and liked it to much, put it on my truck keys so I will carry it closer and more often than my tac bag. so far I'm really impressed with the SOG brand and its quality. 10/10

Handy Little Pry Tool

This SOG MacV Multitool SM1001-CP is turning out to be a handy pry bar tool. It's lightweight but has a wider footprint than the Gerber Shard which I consider the best of the keychain tools out there. The bottle opener works great, way better than the Shard. The best part of this tool is the nail puller/pry bar at the end. It's small enough to wiggle into tight spots and gain a sure footing for easy leverage to get lightweight jobs done. Works better than the Shard. The flat & Phillip tip tools work ok but I would seldom use them. Works about as well as the Shard's screwdrivers. The flat tip can open taped seams on boxes well enough but it's hit or miss. Certainly not as good as the sharper Phillips head on the Shard. Same thing goes for the wrenches except the outside triangles serve as alternative pry bars though they may be too thick for most uses. The quarter-inch hex wrench works okay but again, I would not be inclined to use it. And the knife sharpener is hit-or-miss. If I absolutely, positively need my knife sharpened, I suppose it's better than nothing though the jury is still out on that. I think the Gerber Shard does a little better overall.

The sharpener does work!

I've used it a few times to open a bottle or pry open something - and a friend needed a small wrench once. Mainly, it is a keychain bobble. However, the sharpener works really well, especially on Xacto, box cutter and single edge razor blades. I got it just to touch up the blade on my Swiss army knife at work, as it gets abused frequently. As an afterthought, I tried it on a pretty dull Xacto blade, because I was too lazy to get up from my bench and get a new blade out of the toolbox. To my surprise, it brought the blade back to an almost new edge. Since then I have tried it on box cutter blades, and a single-edge razor blade, and it definitely improved the edge to almost new condition. My only beef is the rivets that hold the little sharpening inserts will loosen up over time, and need to be re-swaged so they don't move around.

I use it all the time

I really bought this for two functions, as a bottle opener and a pry tool. As a pry tool, I generally use it for opening paints, stains and varnishes. For that, it is as handy as a pocket on a shirt. Of course the bottle opener is what you would expect and it works fine. A few functions I didn't expect to use, but use way more often then I expected. Firstly, the sharpener has come in handy on several occasions; especially with box cutter blades. Secondly, the wrench has come in handy more than a few times. Finally, the hook blade is really good for opening the annoying plastic packaging once you get it started. If it breaks, I will likely replace it.

Father's Day Surprises

Every Sunday for 5wks before Father's Day, our son n I pick one small memorable"Dads Day Gift n give it to my husband. We've been doing this for about 16 maybe 17yrs, so ya, we know about " stocking stuffer" gifts n yes, all 3 of us absolutely loved it. We picked the black skull. Very sturdy n very handy knife sharpener. Impressive. Bottle opener... Fantastic Awesome ???? I mean it works like it supposed to as the hubby says. Great to put on top of a wrapped present or a in a stocking. Impressed on how sturdy it is.

Very useable as a keychain multi-tool

I've had at least 3 or 4 of these style products from varied manufactures. I had been using a gerber version for the last couple years and was fairly happy with it. This, however, has a plethora more tools and while attached to keys is much easier to use and obviously with more tools able to be used more often. I'm especially pleased with the knife sharpener. Would be a fantastic gift idea.

Good keychain.

Nothing I don't like, the only tools I use is the bottle opener, pry bar and box opener. I bought it mostly for the look.

Exceeds expectations

Perfect keyring. Does the job it needs to do and looks good doing it. I cna only complain that the wrenches at the top don't fit any nuts I have, but that could just be my fault.

I loved it. Since there is a lot of edc ...

I loved it. Since there is a lot of edc multitools, i was searching for one that would be compact , not too big or too weak, and with much handy tools...and not too expensive. This sog is really helpful, i attached it to my keychain so i have it everytime with me. The knife sharpener can do its work, but i would recommand it for occasionnal use. After 2 months of using it : the black color is fading, it's becoming grey, but thats the only thing that changed.... still handy and working well.

Best keychain multitool ever!

Awesome!!! Love it, very handy and super tough!!! It’s smaller than I thought it would be, which I absolutely love because you can still have it on your keychain and put it in your pocket without poking you or bugging you! Another must have!
