Good choice for small spaces, with some minor quality issues
We installed this system in a single-sink IKEA cabinet that already has a fairly large garbage disposal installed right in the middle, and the P-trap already occupying one side. Although it was a tight squeeze for the tank, everything fit quite well, as you can see from the photos above. Even though I'm not a contractor, and have never put one of these systems in before, I was able to get everything done in about an hour of active time, not counting the wait time to sanitize and flush the system. Style-wise, the curved contour is a fairly close match for the Moen pull-down faucet. The only thing here is that while the body and tip of the tap are polished, the neck part is satin-finish for some reason. It's a little odd - I would have expected some more consistency there. In fact, the tap element was the only imperfect item in the whole setup, because as shipped, the valve leaks while water is dispensing. I think it's the washer in the handle/stem, because the O-ring joint is dry. The instructions, while obviously written for an experienced professional, are quite able to be followed by someone with a moderate technical ability. You'll need to know how to drill the hole in your sink top. The only thing I felt was lacking was some sort of diagram for installation in a single basin with garbage disposal (they only show a single basin with no disposal or a double basin, and instruct you not to connect the drain line to the disposal output to prevent contamination). Similarly, if you already have an air gap for a dishwasher, there's no diagram for this scenario either. My solution was to purchase a new dual air gap that was specifically designed for both the dishwasher outlet and the RO waste outlet. These are readily available on Amazon for $20-30, and made the installation much easier. Although I have the model that has an air gap integrated into the faucet, I bypassed that setup entirely and just ran the waste line to the new one I purchased. The dishwasher and RO paths are completely separated, and there's no risk of cross-contamination, The storage tank is more than adequate volume for the needs of our 3-person family, and the 7psi empty pressure is enough to provide good flow all the way until the tank is empty. Our line pressure is just shy of 100psi most times, so I'm probably lucky when it comes to fill times. If you're not familiar with your line pressure, I'd definitely test it and consider a booster pump if yours is below the recommended pressure. You can install one inline with this system. As for water quality, the taste is excellent. We live in Southern California, where the DWP water typically has a LOT of chloramine added (I tested). The output of this system tastes more like Sierra water now!

Bottled water at home
Works great. Average skills to install. Filters are a little pricey, but there are after market ones available.

A Little Disappointed
I had high hopes for this reverse osmosis water filtration system, especially one carrying the 3M name, as their products are typically at the forefront of performance. However, perhaps due to my limited plumbing knowledge, this system was somewhat tricky to install. Additionally, our tap water still has a reasonably strong mineral after taste despite having this system in place. It’s possible that no matter what I try, I’ll still be going the bottled route for our drinking water. However, I do like that this system is very low profile and hides under the sink and that the filters are simple to change out. In the end, though, this unit has not solved my issue, and unfortunately, I think I’m going to have to keep looking for other options.

Great Tasting Water After 24 Hours
This was my second attempt at using a reverse osmosis system in my home. Years ago I had installed a different system which I ended up removing after a few months because the town that I lived in would frequently flush the water mains, which didn’t allow for me to be able to go for a month before I had to replace the clogged filters. Before the installation of the 3M r/o system that I am reviewing, I was using an Aqua Pure AP217 to filter the cold water at my kitchen sink and I decided to leave that filter in place to help prevent the same problem with this 3M r/o system. My husband is a plumber by trade and found the installation of this system to be mostly straightforward. I would recommend that if anyone purchasing this system does not have plumbing experience, they would be best to hire a licensed plumber to install it. The unit is compact, and easily fit in the cabinet underneath my kitchen sink. The most difficult part of the installation was drilling the hole through my stainless steel kitchen sink where the faucet was to go. My husband was not in possession of a punch so he used a cordless drill with a vari-bit which required a bit more time and patience. The other challenge was there was not enough room on my kitchen sink drain to apply the provided drain saddle, so he drilled a hole through the bottom of the cabinet and ran the drain into the basement utility sink. It would have been helpful if a longer length of the black drain tubing was included, where as he needed to use about 10’ of additional plastic tubing to reach the sink. Upon completion of the installation, the plastic cover that goes on top of the unit did not fit because he wasn’t aware that the orientation of the multiple plastic tubing connections was critical. Rather than re-do the installation he chose to leave the cover off with it not affecting the operation, and being out of sight. There is an annoying small drip that comes from the chrome nut on the supplied faucet that he will have to look further into because the removal of that nut does not appear to be of the standard turning counter clockwise procedure. We were surprised at the length of time (24 hours), and the amount of water (many, many, gallons) that were needed to initially flush the tank and filters. I was also surprised to read (not included in the 3M manual) that it generally takes 4 gallons of water to make one gallon of r/o water. This is certainly a factor to consider before purchasing an r/o system, as well as the fact that most r/o systems remove the trace minerals in water that comes out of our tap. With all of that being said, I am extremely pleased that I now have this system installed in my house. To me the taste of the water is unparalleled, far exceeding the taste of my previously filtered water, and also of any bottled water that I have ever purchased. I also noticed an improvement in the taste of the coffee that we make from home. I am relieved that I now know the quality of the water that I’m drinking, which is incredibly pure after the r/o filters. For those worried about the lack of electrolytes from r/o water, you can buy mineral drops to add back in. I have purchased a glass 2 liter pitcher that I fill and leave in the fridge and add some LyteShow Electrolyte supplement. Lastly, this system comes with one nitrate/nitrite test strip so you can test your system after the 24 hour flush to ensure the filters are working. Problem here was that the strip must have been too old or store improperly as it only turned gray.

High quality filtration system at a time where clean water is very essential.
This is an easy and affordable way to ensure your home has quality drinking water. The system is fairly simple to install and we noticed a difference in the water after a few hours. We are very pleased with this as we were using a water delivery service that was not only more expensive but a hassle to load the water onto the cooler. Nothing is more important than the source of life and here it is in quality form right in your home. Great buy.
