Great gouge

I bought this knowing I’d have to reshape it. Gave it an Irish grind and it’s been great so far

Pretty good steel for the price.

Wish the groove continued further down the shaft towards the handle so that it could have a longer life. Works well for me. Happy.

grind on this gouge was terrible

it is not a bad gouge except the grind was terrible couldnt use it without it grabbing had no bevel to speak of so rather than trashing it i tried to regrind it came out very well doesnt grab now cut real good and easy never ground one before just starting but have sharpen lots of tools and ground other things knife blades and such was not hard to do made a rather nice gouge now

Great for beginners learning to turn and sharpen

My first bowl gouge. Beginning wood turner, mostly carbide tools so far. Put a 45degree swept back grind on it. With my 6 inch alum oxide bench grinder and home made sharpening jig. I used a 40grit wheel to reshape it but I have to dunk it in water frequently or it discolored. I use a 150 grit wheel to sharpen it. The gouge cuts nicely and gives me a finishing cut so much better than my carbide lathe tools. I’d recommend that a beginner enlist the help of a experienced turner for help in reshaping the grind

Good product

This bowl gouge works very well and holds its edge pretty well. I knocked one star off because the flute is kind of short which will make the tool wear out sooner from sharpening.

Sturdy gouge

The gouge is great after re grinding, was very roughly ground when arrived..

Very very blunt.

All new gouges need honing before you use them, but this was very badly profiled and very very blunt! I use a Sorby Pro-edge so it was re-profiled and sharpened in about 10min. I’ve not used it yet so I’m not sure how long the edge will keep but I have no reason to think it will blunt quickly the reason I only gave this 3 stars was because of the bad profiling. It does seem like HSS and it’s a good sized handle and a reasonable length on the flute. For what I paid for it it was well worth it. It arrived about a week quicker than expected so that was good.

Looks okay, but

It looks okay. The cutting edge needs some work. Biggest fault is the handle, pitted, with areas dented in. Not impressed.
