works great
I have used this once so far to crush up cardomon for an Indian recipe and I was very happy with it. I like the size, the price, and the fact that it's not marble like other mortar and pestle sets that you see, which seem unnecessarily heavy and fancy.

Excellent for smashing up pills
I am caring for my 80 y.o. mother who has ALS and uses a feeding tube. I bought an industrial size $100 pill crusher which still didn’t crush pills to powder consistency. Really necessary so her feeding tube won’t get clogged. Decided to by a small M&P as the 2nd step to finish crushing the pills to powder consistency and it is PERFECT. I ended up using it without the pill crusher and it was so easy. The spout & size are also perfect b/c it makes it easy to pour down her feeding tube. I can crush 6 pills and the add powder from two capsules which mix & go down tube easily. I like that it is not glazed. I hv not had the pill powder get caught in crevices b/c I add water as I go along to get every last drop. I could hv saved myself $100. My $8.50 was very, very well spent.

Perfect for me!
This little mortar and pestle is the perfect size for grinding up some large, but on the soft side, supplements I ordered it for. It is very sturdy, cute, and works like a charm! I love it

Nice Fine Grind
I've had several mortar & pestle sets over the years and they mostly underwhelm and get lost (or given away to charity because they never get used) but this one is different. The texture on the bottom of bowel really grips and lets you grind tablets to a really fine powder. It's a smallish bowl so you can usually grind 3 or so at a time. Would not recommend it if you are trying to big batches or anything but if you just need to grind a tablet or two you will be pleased with the quality of the grind you can achieve with this!

Sturdiness. I paid more for one that wouldn't crack within first month!
Fingertip grips are a little shallow. I would prefer deeper for support. But it works.

Great for the kitchen
I cook in small batches and this porcelain mortar and pestle is great for grinding herbs, spices and seeds. It is easy to use and clean. The small size may be a drawback for some but is ideal for my needs.

Good or Bad, Depends What Your Use Is
This is really good quality, but... the product description leaves out a big aspect, and that is that the entire inner surface of the mortar, and the end of the pestle (and just above it) are unglazed and rough, bare porcelain (see my pics - the cream colour areas are unglazed/rough). This can be either good or bad, depending on your use - good if you want to grind/mill in addition to crush, bad if you just need to crush and want a smooth surface that wipes clean and allows you to retrieve/use every bit of what you crushed. Pros: - Rough inner surface and pestle end (prevents slipping, and allows grinding/milling as well) - Heat proof - Well made Cons: - Rough surfaces not easy to clean (can't wipe clean, have to wash) - Rough surfaces trap/hold part of material (not good for tiny pills and small material quantity) - May chip if pestle is used like hammer to pound (unsure if grinding may add ceramic into mix) The rough surface does prevent things from slipping/sliding, and it also allows you to far more easily grind/mill into an ultra-fine powder (like ground cinnamon) rather than just a powder (like sugar). For mortars/pestles, I've looked at wooden ones (not recommended for many reasons, and only good for soft crushable things at best), stone ones (some are rough inside, some smooth, but most are marble which is porous and even if sealed, that quickly wears off, generally not recommended), glass ones (smooth inside, very, and ultra easy to clean and recover all material, but also very slippery and can chip if you bang pestle on mortar, recommended in some cases but not many), stainless steel (smooth but still has a bit of grip, varies depending on how fine the steel has been brushed, wipes clean, can recover all material, doesn't chip if knocked, can use pestle to pound down on material, recommended for most uses). I recommend this ceramic/inner-unglazed mortar/pestle if you need to grind/mill to an ultra-fine powder, almost like flour, but if you just need to crush/pulverize to granules or normal powder (like sugar), then I would mostly recommend a stainless steel one instead. For medication use, pills (especially small), this one is not good or convenient, as you have to wash it, not just wipe it, and it leaves some of the pill behind. For medication/pill use, I find stainless steel is the clear best choice, can pound a pill if you want (without worry of chipping the mortar/pestle), it grips well enough to crush/mill yet wipes clean and you can retrieve every bit of the pill without some of it being left behind in the surface. Hope this helps (let me know below).

Works for my soil testing
I got this for doing soil tests, for grinding up the soil into a testable powder. There's not much more to say. It works without problem.

Great little mortar and pestles small just like I wanted
They're great little mortar and pestles but I give it 4 stars only because I thought it was fully glazed and I for what I needed I need fully glazed smooth interior for powders
