Great Sensor
This is a great Sensor, ignore the bad reviews. This review is for the Heath/Zenith HZ-5316-BZ Deluxe Replacement Motion Sensor with DualBrite, Bronze. It works perfect if you follow instructions and can read. This sensor has several settings. The main one is the Duel Brite setting. This is the one I use dusk to dawn, meaning that when the sun sets Lights come on and stay on until dawn. In this setting they are dim 50% power all night until motion is detected then they go 100% power for One, Five, or 20 minutes. Then if no more motion is detected they go dim again. There is also a Three and Six hour setting to come on at dusk, and a manual override to turn on 100% bright all night without motion by flipping the light switch. The only gripe I have is UV break down of lens. This is my third one in 13 years. In the summer time it's in full sun all day long. So if your ok with electric wiring it's a great sensor to add to outside lights. I took some pics trying to show the 50% and 100% but the low light setting on my phone made it look brighter. Another thing, this only works on incandescent lights only up to 500watts, and that is depending on your light fixture. Mine are 100 watts max which most home fixtures are. I use 53watt Halogen bulbs that have the output of 75w. So using the duel bright cuts my 53w in half. All of my outside lights have DuelBrite sensors added or built into the fixture. I love them and once my freinds and family saw they wanted.

a winner - much like the original
i'd rate my past experience with Heath/Zenith motion products as fair to middling. they work well for a while but durability is not a strength. the motion sensor on some of their outdoor floods may be the exception. the model HZ-5316-BZ motion sensor has very good durability. the outdoor fixture to which it is attached has been used for 12 yrs. it was after a severe t-storm that its original motion sensor malfunctioned and the light would just stay on after dark. i looked for and tried two other flood units with motion but they all have much less coverage. we have a large yard and need the broader coverage as the fixture is about 25' above the ground. this sensor is an identical replacement for the motion sensor that came with the original fixture. it's been up and running for 3 months now with seemingly slightly less coverage than the original but far better than the others we've tried. this go round, it switches a led lamp instead of a 300w halogen! still, it can handle either load. we do not use the dual-brite feature. we're hoping the led will be the last lamp replacement. the lack of heat certainly helps the fixture and its electrical contacts. bought 2 since these are becoming increasingly hard to find.

Really Excellent and Very Long Life Motion Sensor
Actually this Heath/Zenith HZ-5316-BZ replaced my old Heath/Zenith HZ-5316 which was probably installed 14-16 years ago, maybe longer. Considering all the years of the sun beating on my old one, rain, cold, hail, wind and the Texas summer heat, it finally reached old age. The weatherproof J-box that my old Heath/Zenith HZ-5316-BZ attached to, the grey pretty much was faded out and chipped. I am very, very satisfied it lasted this long and I was able to find the exact same model on Amazon. Thanks Amazon. Incredible. Time de-installing my old one and installing the new one was less than 20 minutes. Three wires and two machine screws into the J-box. Hardest thing, thinking safety on the ladder. The unit is under the peak of my garage about 14 feet off the ground. The new unit immediately worked perfectly. I have 5 flood lights running off the Heath/Zenith HZ-5316-BZ with on/off the switch in my house. Way back when, I had to count the wattage for those incandescent flood lights to get under the 500 watt maximum. Today's LED floods, well, I get more illumines at a fraction of the total 500 maximum wattage and just a few pennies a year to operate now. Ready for this, I still had the original very simple manual. The manual is almost exactly the same. Back then, my old unit had a 10 year limited warranty. Today, it has a 2 year limited warranty. I suspect we'll blow past that two year warranty. The Heath/Zenith HZ-5316-BZ is one a value product that absolutely performs with outstanding reliability.

Quality sometimes suffers
These are pretty good units - what is especially nice is that they have a dimmed light feature when turned on, that comes up to full brightness when the unit senses motion. This is great, because it casts a nice dim highlight around your yard without making it look like a sports stadium; convenient when you venture out at night to walk the dog or something. Of course, they go off automatically during the day. I use these around my house with LED spots and floods, depending on the location. The only drawback of these is their consistency. Sometimes these will last 10 years, sometimes only 1. Sometimes they stop working and then start again. So the quality is a little erratic. Still, they're fairly easy to change out and relatively cheap, so I keep a couple of them on hand.

A little pricey but it is the direct replacement.
I could have replaced the entire light with a new LED for probably twice the price of the sensor. I figured I would give this a shot. I hope it holds up better than the old one. The lens over the old sensor just disintegrated. Judging from the look of it due to UV damage. It was an easy install as my light is listed in the compatibility list. Having said that, it should work with just about any incandescent light as long as there is a place to mount it. The range on the detection is excellent. The light is on my deck aimed at the steps, but it picks up deer half way across my yard, and the occasional feral cat. It does what it is supposed to and the and the half bright feature is kind of cool.
