Good saw
Good saw, nice, aggressive set up. I haven't resharpened yet, but it cuts fine from the factory. I get why people object to the lacquer on the plate because it does create drag. I removed it with mineral spirits. Oddly, if you lubricate the lacquer finish with wax or oil, it doesn't help at all until you get that lacquer off of there. The handle is comfortable and balanced. It has a nice balance between the horns that allows you to correct easily enough. I tried it out, without any adjustment, resawing an 8/4 scrap I had lying around and it did a very good job. I'm pleased with my purchase and am looking at buying their 12" tenon saw, which I understand has a similar issue with lacquer. For those put off by the idea that they have to remove the finish when the saw arrives, please consider that any individual saw might sit on a shelf in a warehouse for a long period and be subject to rust simply from humidity. The lacquer prevents the oxidation very well. Removing it is easy enough and the saw is very nice, especially at this price point, once the lacquer is removed.

Excellent rip-cut panel saw
This saw is of high quality, and is everything that it is advertised to be. Having read other reviews about a protective coating on the plate and teeth, it was cleaned with mineral spirits before sawing. It cut very well, with no problems at all. It was given a hard first use at re-sawing birch lumber. After several hours of aggressive cutting it remained sharp. Having used rip-cut pull saws with narrower kerf and more flexible blades, this traditional push saw with a stiff plate cuts faster and more efficiently for me. The fact that it can be resharpened is also appealing. It is recommended without reservation to other wood workers who like these features.

You can spend a lot of money on a saw ...
You can spend a lot of money on a saw, but if you are just starting out or have only occasional use for a rip saw there is no reason to. I am putting together a hand tool shop and I may upgrade my ripsaw in the future, but for right now this is just what I need. The saw works well and is appropriately aggressive on the rip. Right now I am working with pine and have not used it on any hardwoods.

Rip cuts can take forever.
The best quality handsaw I've used so far. I mostly bought it for the low tpi rip filed teeth-a must have for doing a lot of rip cutting. 10 or more tpi just won't cut fast enough for me. The flexible blade was a bit of a surprise, but wasn't an issue once I got used to it. My blade came with a coating, but it's thin enough that it's already wearing off, which reduces friction in the cut. Not sure why the manufacturer doesn't use a preservative that's easier to remove (oil, wax, etc) I'll take the rest of the blade coating off later. I bought a second one to file crosscut.

Only cuts about 4 inches before binding.
Ive been using a crosscut saw for years now and thought i'd get a rip saw. This saw has so little curf that i can only cut few inches before it binds and i go get my jig saw. I can't tell if it is the saw or me (thus the two stars) but i am sending it back as i can rip much better with my crosscut saw which only costs $26.

Great saw with a little fine tuning.
I like this saw however for me the teeth are a little course. I would recommend resetting the teeth and resharpening out of the box with a saw file (slightly) and removing the lacquer from the blade with acetone. Quality is excellent though and am please with it thus far.

Great saw! Craftsmanship is excellent & while I thought about buying one almost 2x the price, I can't imagine how it could rank better, much less twice the value. BTW, I've had a design & prototyping business for over 30 years. I have a magnificent shop with some amazing power & precision tools. Seldom do I have the need for a hand tool like this for anything I do. I needed this saw for re-sawing a piece of wood to do a hand-carved item for the wedding present of a friend's son & new bride. Fun to get back to some hand-crafted work. That said, I know tools & this once is excellent.

Nice sharp saw
Nice sharp saw, even after cutting 160 inches of 10 to 12 inch thick ponderosa pine. But the saw I received is not 7 tpi. Teeth spacing is 5 mm, about 5.1 tpi.

beautiful saw
mine got damaged either during transport or at the amazon packaging center because one of the nuts was damaged as if someone used a small flat head to tighten it and it skipped and made a gouge in the wood and roughed up the nut anyway I got it sorted out with amazon but just a beautiful saw the handle could be a little thicker as its under an inch but anyway I still love this saw just know you have to clean the rust protection off and probably sharpen it also the teeth are big so if your looking for a panel saw they do make one like this one but with smaller teeth

Beatuiful Rip Saw
Very nice classic saw, it is 5TPI instead of 7TP (see image), ideal for rougher aggressive rip cuts.

Fantastic rip saw
This saw does a great job on ripping boards. The blade wanted to wander a bit on really thick timbers (12" x 12") but that is a tad beyond the scope for this tool. Regular dimension lumber is a satisfying 'whoosh - whoosh' once you get the rhythm going. Well made from excellent materials.

Excellent saw.
Very nice saw. Reminiscent of a old time hand saw. The handle is of course modern machined and will take a little work. Other reviews have complained about binding from the clear coat but if you have experience with a saw the clear coat wore off quickly. Glad I purchased it.

Won't cut straight
This thing needs a tune up. The cut always veers off to the inside. Apparently this is because of burrs on one side of the saw teeth. So it is pretty much useless until I buy some files, make up a saw vice and properly sharpen the saw. A poorly executed tool.
