Lid took some fidgeting to get a good seal
At first I thought I got one of the defective lids mentioned in the other reviews. It didn't seem like there was anyway this thing was going to seal correctly. I figured out that you kind of have to pinch the lid in sections around the edge, you can't just press down on the top like most containers. I haven't seen it mentioned in the reviews, so hopefully this helps someone. For now, I think a 4-star review is fair. I'm making rice wine in this today. I'll update this review if it ends up not being airtight as mentioned in other reviews.

2 Gallon Plastic Fermenter w/ drilled lid
These are marked at 1-Gal and 1.5 Gal, with approximately 3in. of "head space" to the rim/lid. One could functionally use for up to 1.75-Gal if one had to. However, at the 1.5-Gal line, one can easily "swirly" the liquid without removing the lid as I like to do with a primary-fermentation. As far as air tight, I'd have to say, yes. Define that? - Well, I would not expect to drop it and not have it leak, or the lid to pop off (especially after the locking-band is pealed off of it). However, for what it is intended to be used for, --primary fermentation, it is perfect. Again, what does that mean? - Specifically, the Lid and drilled-hole-gasket does seal well enough that if fermentation exists, the "fermentation gases", quickly enough pressurize the container, displacing the "air" and causing "bubbling" in the "Air-lock". With standard, and good, sanitizing practice I have only had a good result with these. - For the price point I paid, I am satisfied with it. I would expect to use it for many numbers of primary-fermentation's. It appears the Lids inner, soft gasket can be replaced; and if those can be found to do so, --I would consider that. I would not expect the Lid, or Pail to fail or wear out for this use (aside from the gasket), for what I provide a guess at of, two-years of use. Use for me for this "use", would be 6 - 8 times a year, possibly up to 20 uses in two-years, --offered as an impression of use quality. The quality seems consistent across several lids/pails I have in hand. I would not want to pay more that I did and feel good about what it is, and is for. To offer further qualification of use by me to gauge for yourself: Presently 5-Gal batches are to big and/since I like have three batches of different things going, offset by a week or two. However, 1-Gal is a bit "small". Ideally a 2.5-Gal would be great for me and could just use the 5-Gal items for it; however, I am concerned by the amount of head space in the 5-Gal sized, and the general size for home-kitchen use (kitchen sink, etc.), and if one does not have a vigorous fermentation on occasion, --the 3in head space when these pails are at 1.5-Gal line seems ideal overall. And all equipment at this capacity can be handled well enough in a Kitchen space; not having to use a "slop-sink" or garden hose, etc. for maintenance.

Wonderful Fermenter Bucket
When I initially found this bucket, I was dissuaded from purchasing it by all of the comments about the lid not sealing. However, I wanted to start a mead right away and decided to buy this one since it was available with Prime shipping. I thought that I could always do a temporary fix and transfer the mead to a different container if I happened to get a better one. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this will not be necessary. I noticed that the logo present in some of the pictures is not on the bucket. This leads me to believe that the bucket was changed at some point or this seller started getting buckets from a different manufacturer. I can confirm that this new bucket is super airtight. After I attached the lid and the airlock, pressing on the lid would cause the airlock to bubble. This was an immediate indicator that the bucket was sealed and I would have no problem with leaks or the fermentation. I am writing this the morning after starting my mead and the airlock is still bubbling away. The only "bad" thing I would say about this product is that the lid is extremely tight. This is great in the long run, but I did struggle a bit to put the lid on. I have not made an attempt to remove the lid yet, though I can only imagine the effort that it will require. In my opinion, a difficult lid is much more desirable than a bucket that is leaky or not airtight. So this product has really managed to turn around my opinion on it. I highly recommend it to anyone doing 1-gallon batches of mead or other fruit alcohol. Since I'm basing this review on a short experience with it, I'll be sure to post updates if anything changes.

Good value and space saving
These buckets are great for someone who will be experimenting with multiple batches of wine because you can easily keep the batches small. They’re also handy for anyone dealing with limited space because they will easily fit on a shelf even with an airlock. You might have to soak them to get them clean after fermentation.

Does not have an airtight seal
DO NOT GET THIS FOR ANY TYPE OF HOMEBREWING!! I'm so mad at myself for not more thoroughly researching this item, and not checking the reviews. I bought this so I could make a small batch of melomel (fruity mead). I needed room for my gallon of must plus the fruit. Well, I just wasted my three pounds of honey, and five pounds of fruit because they they aren't fermenting. I've tried wrapping the lid in saran wrap, I've tried taping the lid, air keeps getting in! Complete waste of time and money! How do you call something a "fermentation bucket" when the lid doesn't even seal?! Total ripoff!!

Great size but doesn't seal
Great size for small batches but the lid does not seal. The tolerance with plastic can be wide and I assume most do seal fine. Mine doesn't. I'll be looking for a seal to go in the lid. Feb 2023 update... I purchased 1 gal food safe buckets from Lowes. These are AWESOME and cost $4 ea. They have a rubber O-ring that seals great and the lid is very easy to take off and on. I DO NOT recommend the bucket from Ohio Brew.

Missing Grommet, instructions weren't super clear, otherwise good.
The product works as advertised, its just a little awkward to use as in order to get a good seal you have to rip a tab around the edge. The instructions are written in an embossed text on the lid, and the tab itself needs to be cut in order to pull it off, but otherwise it works fine and seals fine. HOWEVER it was missing the rubber grommet required to make an airtight seal with a valve. This is kind of an issue. Arguably unusable without it. Luckily I had a rubber funnel of all things that fit perfectly in the hole, and I was able to push my valve in with that.

Not air tight.
The gasket used in this is garbage. I thought my beer failed because I wasn't getting any bubbles. Turns out the bucket wasn't air tight. If I could give negative stars I would because I just wasted a beer kit using this bucket.
