One of the best Carbon out there.
The media could not be loaded. Doesn’t fit inside the Marineland Refillable Media Cartridge. Which was my intended purpose. It does fit, but it doesn’t stay inside. Spills all out in hang on back filters when u attempt to remove it for monthly cleanings or to refill it. Which can turn pretty ugly when it exits into tank water and a big enough greedy fishy can mistake it for food and ingest it. So I wouldn’t use it for Refillable Media Cartridges. But I do suggest putting it in a media bag above all else. Works much better IN A MEDIA BAG ONLY! Save yourself frustrations and invest in this and media bags, not refillable media cartridges. It is the best carbon I have used though, doesn’t expire within 4 weeks like most. Lasts a very long time.

It had been opened!
When I opened the box, I made sure everything I ordered was there. I made the mistake of not examining everything more closely. I just opened the bottle of Seachem Matrix Carbon 500ml. There was no seal on the bottle. When I examined the cap there was all carbon smudges on top of the cap. It looks like the bottle had been opened. Not happy at all.

These are fine, too fine for many uses. The small granular pieces are small for my filter.

Wish it wasn’t so small
The carbon spheres are tiny. I tried to use them in one of my internal filters to remove some tannins out of my tank but since they’re so small, it fell right through the sponges and out of the filter grates. The space it the filter is limited so I can’t put it in a fine mesh media bag and shove that in the filter. I ended up having to cover the grates with filter floss so it wouldn’t fall out but that only means I’ll have to swap them out every time compared to using the sponges the filter came with. I’m sure seachem’s carbon is better than most but they really should make them in larger grain sizes

Really high quality product
As with most other Seachem products this one is no different. I am using this in my Fluval 307 canister filter for my 45 gallon freshwater aquarium. I have decided to go with this to save on spending money on the Fluval charcoal inserts. So far I have been pleased with the performance of this product. I am using nylon bags in my filter and I have had no problems.

Best active carbon on the market still
Although not the cheapest choice in active carbon i belive its by far the best choice and all i will use in my reef system, lowest phosphorus levels of any carbon , spearical shape allows for better flow as well as more surface area also due to spherical shape. Keeps my water spotless and safe for critters, i like to change every 2 weeks as i feel as it still may be working in my 100 gallon its mostly exhausted .

Crystal clear water
Used in a media bag, this carbon will make your water clear. Before you put it in your canister filter or sump, rinse gently under the tap in a media bag. Don’t scrunch the carbon as you’ll be rinsing for ages. You’ll know when to renew when your water changes start showing a yellow tinge next to your fresh RODI. I always use white buckets so you can check the colour of the waste water. Highly recommended.

Disgusting
The tamper seal had clearly been removed from the bottle & it only contained 311ml instead of the 500ml as stated on the bottle. I always use Matrix Carbon in my tanks, but I definitely won't purchase from Amazon again.
