Better than the prebagged
I wasn't sure if this was going to be a waste of money or not. But it had really helped on the brown alge. Removing the silicate from the water and sand

Removed both Phosphates and Silica from our fish tanks
This stuff is fantastic. Turns out that our city water is high in silica and also has some phosphates in it. This was building up in our fish tanks and causing brown algae. We started putting this PhosGuard in the filters and within 2 weeks both silica and phosphates were at zero and the brown algae has stopped growing. I just add 1/4 cup of this inside the filters along with the charcoal. Now that we know the water was the cause, we will use filtered water from now on. I also purchased test kits for both phosphates and silica so I could watch the levels drop and test my house water. Now that the levels are to zero, I may not need to use this anymore since we will use filtered water to prevent the silica and phosphates from getting in the fish tank to begin with. But this stuff did the trick! If you have brown algae, then you need this to remove these things the algae feeds off of. As for the filter usage: our pump on our 55Gal tank has two large rectangular filters that the water flows thru like a waterfall. With those filters it is easy to add the PhosGuard. And we replace each of the filters once a week, on different days. We replace the left filter on Wednesdays and the replace the right filter on Saturdays.

Excellent phosphate remover
Excellent phosphate remover. I was having issues with green hair algae in my saltwater reef system. My test kits said I was at 0ppm on phosphate but the algae kept on growing, so I know there must have been some. I first tried granulated ferric oxide with no success. While I believe the GFO worked it wasn't correcting the issue with the GHA. I tried the GFO first because it is cheaper than the Seachem PhosGuard. After all the headaches with the GHA, I bit the bullet and purchased the PhosGuard. I like the pellet form. It provides excellent surface area to trap the phosphate. I also like the size of the pellet. It is being used in a media reactor and I don't have to worry about the pellets filtering though the screen and ending up in the aquarium. The best part is that this stuff works!! While I was already showing 0ppm I couldn't tell you how much phosphate it has removed, I can tell you that within two weeks the GHA had noticeably shrank back and eventually disappeared. I will continue to purchase this product in the future. I DID NOT receive this at a discount in exchange for review.

Solid product, but make sure the media has good water flow over it
This product works as described, and I recommend it to others. I was having a phosphates problem for a while in my salt water tank at work because some of my macro algae had broken down in a spot I couldn't reach and was decaying there. I also, unbeknownst to me for a while, had an reverse osmosis/de-ionization filter system that wasn't pulling all the phosphates out of my top-off water. Bottom line, I was able to get the problem in better control using PhosGuard. That's good because the excess phosphates were really feeding some hair algae that had sprung up in my tank. The one thing that you have to note about this product is that it really needs to be in a place where it gets good water circulation over the media. I haven't had much luck in applications where there isn't much flow going directly over the PhosGuard. Other than that, I recommend this to others trying to keep phosphates under control.

Clean & Clear
I use this in combination with GAC and Phosban because the Purigen alone didn’t seem to reduce phosphates. The trio have really made a huge difference in the clarity of my water and assist greatly with algae control. I had considered ChemiPure Elite but my lfs recommended this over it and I’m not disappointed. I’m almost to the point of replacing it and don’t think I will bother trying to reactivate it, the thought of soaking it in bleach and putting it back in my tank scares me... no matter how many times I rinse it lol. As with anything I put in my tank I err on the side of caution and always use a little less than directed.

keep thriving
A necessity for any tank and serves it's purpose. To keep phosphates down.

not very pleased with this product.
Been using it for about 7weeks and as instructed -= small amount frequently i.e. every 7 days. The pellets do turn from white to a light brown over a week, I think it helps but it's not as good as the advertising suggests. Having goldfish means live plants don't last, but in their absence, brown diatoms algae arose. Deep clean. glass scraping, and adding marimo moss balls as a substitute for live plants seem to be getting it under control, but do not necessarily expect fast results if you go for this option. Patience is very much needed.

Recommended product - does what it says it will do if used properly
Had a phosphate reading of 2ppm and bought this to try and reduce it. Popped the required amount in mesh bag and put it in my 125l freshwater tank. Used a Small Fluval U1 filter to increase water flow through the bag. 4 days later and it’s now 0ppm and really pleased. Brown algae that was appearing all over my tank has stopped spreading. Good stuff!

No real clue as to how to use but will research .
No instructions provided as to quantity required so will research. Will try putting it in the carbon tray of my biorb tank. Still haven't found a solution to green bloom.
