Happy to report it worked really well

I needed to make a badminton court in the backyard and was debating between this wand and the professional striping machine ($97). I wasn't sure reading all the reviews if this will produce consistent width lines that looked straight. Happy to report it worked really well. I laid down string (tied to stakes) to mark the court and followed the lines. It may not be as perfect as the striping machine, but in grass I don't think you can tell the difference. Uploading a picture so you can judge for yourself. For the money and my purpose (marking relatively straight lines for backyard courts) - forgo the striping machine and go with this. TIP: key is to focus on the wheel and keeping a constant distance from the string (don't look at the end, down the line or the mark it's making). Tilt the wand closer to the ground for a narrow line (2.5") or hold it upright for wider (4"). Practice on a piece of cardboard beforehand.

Tool that saved the day

This turned out to be a great tool. I bought it as a back up to a four wheel line striper, but in the end being able to increase the elevation of the spray can and get a wider spray pattern was more valuable than the four wheeler that I thought would be our primary striping tool. The only thing I don’t like about it is a cheap wire trigger with the cheap plastic cover. If it had a comfortable trigger I would’ve given it a five.

Why change the design?

Used these things for years, simple design. This new design doesn’t work at all. Applicator doesn't touch the paint tip. Useless.

DIY costs savings!

We were able to restore the surface of our church parking lot easily and cost effectively with volunteers. This marking wand made applying the parking lines much easier and consistent.

One but not the other...

Pay attention folks. Rust-Oleum sells MARKING paint and STRIPING paint. These paint cans and nozzles aren't interchangable. If you want to "permanently" (sort of) stripe lines, this wand and STRIPING paint is what you need. If you want to "temporarily" mark lines, the hand-held MARKING paint is for you. A different wand is sold for each. The nozzles and triggering mechanisms are different. Don't b1+c# if you confuse the two. This one's for STRIPING and MARKING cans won't work in it. As a product, it's pretty nice. A little tricky loading the canisters but after one or two you'll get the hang of it. Great for occasional or not-so-perfectionist chores. I used mine for a back yard Bocce court. Perfect.
