Almost perfect

This property is from 1900. Thankfully, only one layer of wallpaper and unfortunately two of paint. The last paint job the owner used very thick paint. So, for me, minus one star because this device won't poke through the paint well. Since it's not designed to can not blame the manufacturer. But, I'm not able to maximize use to minus a star. I'm using a wallpaper steamer. This device can p after the wall’s been heated not just when it's dry. I think for what the description says and my attempts to score the walls it did do what is described to pierce the paper. But the paint gave the effort a difficult time via trial on several walls. I'm not giving up. Another issue, is these old walls get holey easily once the paper is gone requiring repair with putty. I can attest to this tool's ability to poke holes when the material is not thickly painted. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good wallpaper removal toop

I purchased a house and someone had painted over the wallpaper ... ugh. This tool penetrated the paint and paper so that the vinegar/water mixture could dissolve the glue. You need to be careful not to press too hard because you will get little teeth marks in the drywall and do a little skim coat over it to get your wall smooth. The paint still makes this a slow process but it does work and I'm not sure I would have gotten it off without this tool

Could've worked...

I was attempting to remove old wallpaper and I don't think the item was of much use. Since the wallpaper was over 50 years old that might've been the reason. The item did what it was supposed to do, which is lightly score the wallpaper to make the water penetrate the paper faster. However, in this case, it didn't help me enough to continue using it on the remaining walls.

Worked as advertised

The first thing to understand about wallpaper removal is that there is a lot of variety in the types of paper and adhesives and some are easier to remove than others. Your first step should be to attempt to remove the wallpaper just by peeling it off the wall. I had good luck with two rooms where the paper came off so cleanly that there was no scraping needed. Unfortunately, one other room and the hallway require scraping which is how I came to purchase this product. The Paper Tiger is definitely worth trying. Use the tool to score the wallpaper very liberally. Make sure you don't apply too much pressure as you don't want to damage the walls. I used mine on paper over drywall and with a light application there were many small score marks and a satisfying pile of wallpaper dust on the floor when done. I then used a spray bottle with 2/3 hot water and 1/3 white vinegar. I applied a good amount of water to where the walls were wet but not dripping. Let it sit 10 minutes and then return to scrape it off. I used the Zinsser scraping tool and was very pleased with the results. I would say that I spent about 3 times as much time scoring the paper than I did with the actual scraping. The scored and wet paper came off easily with the scraper and if you find yourself working hard scraping then perhaps you didn't use enough water or let it sit long enough. If it still doesn't work well, then perhaps a solvent like DIF is in order. Best of luck!

Good but not s good as an older one

I have an older version of the same perforator. The metal spiked wheels on this version are a bit more aggressive and penetrate a bit deeper which would be a plus if removing multiple layers of paper but I'm only removing single layered paper. Deeper perforation makes for more mud/ repair work after the paper is removed . So, not a negative if using for multiple layer removals but less appropriate for single layer use. Five stars because it does work well and is light years ahead of the one included with the Wallwik paper removal kit, which is the only way to go BTW.

Easy to use - but broken after 2 days.

The hand held scoring devices work well. I had purchased the single wheel device from Amazon and a 3 wheel device from another supplier. Sadly, both devices have failed - the scoring wheels became detached from the handle. When functioning - and used with the chemical solution - very good results - but not of durable quality.

Works well

I bought this scoring tool and another brand and this one worked much better. I was scoring old wallpaper that had been painted several times and that had plaster below. The little teeth did get bent down on one tool (luckily I bought two) so I don't know if I was pushing too hard or the little bumps in the plaster slowly bent the teeth. The second one is still going strong. I tried all sorts of things and the system that worked best was scoring with this tool, spraying with vinegar and water, then scraping with the Zinsser scraper.

Defective

The wheels broke with about 10min. of use. Amazon says that is not eligible for refund. I don't know why, and it is impossible to get a human to explain it to me.
