Love Love Love
I had the same rusk straightener for 10 years and when it died last month I bought this one as a replacement and I've been impressed. It is more lightweight than the older one I had an straightens just as well. There is very much a difference between this straightener and other cheaper versions on the market. So glad I made this purchase.

Best Flat Iron I ever used and I've used lots
This flat iron makes your hair smooth and silky with a just pass or two even if your hair is course or thick. I found the review giving this product one star because it fell off the table in to a laundry basket full of clothes and "turned on by itself" bizarre. How about taking some personal responsibility for your own careless behavior? This flat iron has an awesome feature that allows you to lock the plates together when not in use. You don't find this feature on many flat irons and I wish more had it. I doubt that clothes in a basket would place enough force on the on/off switch to turn it on (nor do I think an insurance adjuster would), but even if that did happen, why would anyone leave a flat iron plugged in when not in use and leave it on a table above a laundry basket full of clothes? Don't blame a perfectly safe hair appliance for your lack of common sense. I'm glad this did not turn in to a tragedy but from what you described it is your carelessness that is the real danger to your family's safety. Back to the product review, I'm a licensed cosmetologist and have been for almost 25 years. I've owned hundreds of hair appliances (I'm actually a hair appliance junky) and dozens of flat irons all brands and this one was the best I've used so far. Safety tip: Please always unplug flat irons, curling irons, clothes irons or any other appliance that heats to very high temps when not in use because then you know for sure it's off.

Doesn't work as well as others. Temperature dial is 0-50
I've been using flat irons for years. I have long, thick wavy hair. My last one was a FHI flat iron (which I loved!), but was damaged when traveling. Anyway, my dear friend and hair stylist recommended this Rusk one. It got good reviews and the price was right. It heats up quickly. And there is a temperature dial that's from 0-50 (I assume 50 is 500 degrees). It does not automatically turn off, so be warned. My overall complaint is that it takes longer at higher temps to straighten my hair with this one. My FHI, I used about 350-375 degrees and it took about 3-4 passes. With this Rusk, I have to have it 45 plus (450 degrees or higher), and it takes likes 8-10 passes! I don't straighten my hair nearly as often because it now takes too long with all these extra passes, and I don't like how high heat I have to use on this one. I've had this for about 6 months now and wish I'd just gotten a replacement FHI. I'm sure for someone with thinner hair, it may work better. All I can compare it to is with other flat irons I've used and I just don't think it works as well.

Great iron + bonus travel hair dryer!
This is a great flat iron for anyone looking for a 5 star product at an affordable price. After doing some research on a new flat iron after losing my CHI on a cruise somehow.... I didn't want to shell out the same amount of money and read good things about this iron. I Just got it today and its fantastic. Heats up and gets hot extremely quickly and glides through hair effortlessly and I find my hair shinier after using it. I also feel it does a better job at getting my hair pin straight as if I just had it styled at a salon. Also upon opening and to my surprise this came with a BONUS trave hair dryer which is not mentioned in the product description. I haven't used the hair dryer yet but will be traveling home in a couple days for Christmas and will submit another review upon usage. Also I'd like to note I shop on amazon regularly but never leave feedback or reviews but this iron was well worth the price and great quality so I had to. ENJOY

The BEST straightener I have ever used! I can go into humidity and my hair doesn’t get nearly as bad as it would with other straightener’s I’ve used in the past. It’s also great if you use your straightener to curl your hair, as this is the only way my hair holds a heated curl :)

Died in less than 6 months......
My hair stylist uses Rusk brand and it always does such a great job on my hair. So, when my old Revlon flat iron died after about 8 years, I decided to purchase this as a replacement. I was impressed with how effective it was. It heated up quickly and required only 1 or 2 passes over my hair, which cut the time it took for me to straighten and style my hair, and made my hair look silky smooth. My only disappointment was no auto shut off.....until this week. Plugged it in, turned it on as always.....light was on....walked away to do a few things and came back....no heat!!! I purchased this item on June 20, 2015 and it quit working in less than 6 months. I'm glad I purchased it on sale at $29.90. Even at that discounted price it was a poor purchase for only 6 months use. So, I cannot recommend this item at all. Although it worked great while it worked...it didn't work long enough!

Does not work to wave long thick straight silky hair
First iron in my life I haven't liked, and I've used a lot! I actually use a straightening iron to add waves to my very naturally straight/silky and thick hair. With this iron, my hair kept falling out of the iron, I think because the hot plates were shorter than any other iron I've ever used. Anyways, this item did not work for me at all. Bummed because I was ready to spend the money for a good, lightweight iron, as I travel a lot. Now I'll have to make note of the iron plate lengths so as to avoid in the future. Posting for anyone else with straight, thick, silky hair looking to use an iron to add waves to your hair... probably a small demographic but I know you're out there!

Works great
Heats up fast and is very light weight. The only thing I find a bit of an issue is it pulls the hair once in awhile. My old one didn't do that until it was old.

It's okay.
It's okay, does the job. Got this is my secondary straightner but also have RUSK 1" Heat Freak Ceramic and Tourmaline Str8 Iron Hair Straightener and it is way better. Even though it's more expensive - Definitely worth the price difference.
