Consider the Kit with the Threaded/Soldered Adapter Instead
The spout works as advertised, but there is one thing to consider. This spout comes with the RP33794 (slip-on) adapter. This adapter is very easy to install, assuming you have a clean 1/2 copper pipe coming out of the wall. The adapter has one O-ring that mates with the copper pipe and one O-ring that mates with the spout itself (2 O-rings total). In my opinion, the RP12307 (screw-on or soldered) adapter has a lower likelihood of leaking. It only has one O-ring and the other connection is either soldered or threaded. If you are able to install the soldered or threaded adapter, that one is the one to go with. It can be purchased with the "DELTA RP17453 DELTA TUB SPOUT" set

Just what I needed.
Not a plumber BUT I can be handy when it comes to most basic home maintenance. Screwed the old one out like a lightbulb and screwed this one in. I just needed to make sure that this would fit to repalce my existing Delta spout that just crapped out, and it did..

Works great, instructions poor
This product works great. The pull down water shutoff is far superior to the conventional pull-up shutoff. The problem I had was my plumbing (1960 build) still used a 6" nipple style pipe, which this won't fit on. So I had to go to the hardware store to get the correct fitting. It needs a 1/2" copper pipe to fit correctly. It doesn't mention this anywhere, it just assumes that's what you have. Once I had the correct pipe installed the adapter went on easily and the spout fit snugly against the wall. I highly recommend this as an upgrade from the old style spout, just be prepared for an extra trip to the store until you take the old one off and see what pipe you have coming out of the wall.

A solid plumbing item, works perfectly, nice looking
This is a replacement for an existing tub spout with diverter which itself was an aftermarket item. While the diverter on the old spout was supposed to be sending water to the shower, at least half the total water flow never got to the shower but rather went straight down the drain. The diverter in the new spout sends all but a trickle of water to the shower. You pull the "switch" down--not up like on most spouts with a diverter--and it feels very solid and works easily. I was skeptical about the increased length of new spout but that turns out to be a blessing it you are drawing a tub rather than taking a shower. The Delta spout with diverter was a very good choice.

Much Better than Pull-Up Type
This tub spout solved the problem I had with a previous diverter spout (the kind with the pull-up plunger) that always leaked water out of the spout during showers. This spring-loaded pull-down spout diverts nearly all of the water to the shower when you turn on the water and pull down on the spring-loaded ring where the water comes out of the spout. It remains down (water diverted to the shower) as long as the water is on. When you shut off the water, it returns to the normal position (tub). In the shower position, only a small dripping got past the diverter, far better than the pull-up plunger type. My previous spout threaded on near the front of the spout. Since this RP5836 is a slip-on style, I used a tubing cutter to cut off the threaded end that was sweated onto a 1/2 inch copper pipe. This Delta slip-on design comes with a brass adapter that uses an O-ring to seal against the 1/2 inch copper pipe. You slip the brass adapter over your existing smooth 1/2 inch copper stub and position it fore-aft on your copper pipe to place it exactly where you want it. A set screw secures the brass adapter in place, and then you screw the tub spout onto the brass adapter. A second O-ring seals the brass adapter to the spout. This model is a high quality chrome finish plastic on the outside to prevent corrosion. Delta also makes a metal version that is otherwise nearly identical to this model.

Great Replacement for Delta Pull-Down Spout
Installation on this spout was so simple that I had to laugh. My current spout, which I must admit is the same model and make, although working, was showing signs of its age with marks, lack of shine, and other peculiarities. So, I thought I would give it a chance and try to replace the spout with this new unit not knowing what I was getting into. It turns out that for this particular model the spout literally screws into place onto the pipe is protruding from the wall, and so all I had to do was take the old spout and gently turn it counterclockwise until it started to give, and then continue turning it until it spun completely out of place. I then took the new spout and reverse the procedure, turning clockwise until the spout was firmly and fully set in place. This new spout looks great, and works great as well, but like most things today, it is not made of metal, but of a chrome plated plastic. That may or may not matter, but it does mean that when you are working with it you must be careful not to crack it by turning it too harshly or turning it too far. Once it's in place however you cannot tell the difference between it and a solid chrome piece. It has made quite a difference in the way my bathtub appears. Five stars.

Best Diverter Spout For the Money
Conventional diverter spout design does not fully shut off tub water. As such spouts age less water is diverted to the shower while more water ends up going straight down the drain. The Delta design allows only a few drops to leak out. Just pull down the end of the spout. (Note: The Delta diverter returns to open automatically when the water is turned off.) Installation is simple. The spout comes with a converter that slides over standard 1/2" copper pipe. (If you have a threaded nipple you need the other model.) You might have to smooth the pipe with a little aluminum oxide sandpaper. Slide the converter all the way on and tighten the set screw. Then screw on the spout. Done! Note: The spout is plastic. No worries, but don't expect it to last a lifetime. Also, there are two o-rings on the converter, one inside and one outside, both easily replaced should it become necessary.
