Read the instructions! This is a light Grey dye, it is not dark!
This is a synthetic fabric dye. 1 bottle dyes 2 pounds of fabric. This dye should be done in near boiling water at a constant 200°! Your tap water is not hot enough for this dye You cannot use this dye in a washer. You cannot do this in a bucket unless you you have an immersion heater and a lid for the bucket. You need to weigh your fabric. This bottle will dye 2lbs of fabric in 6 gallons of dye water with 2 teaspoons of dish soap. You must keep the water at atleast 200° for a minimum of ½ an hour while constantly stirring the water. I was dying a marble white and Grey duvet cover to make the white a light Grey. Unfortunately I listened to the reviews about the die being too dark. I had 2.2 pounds of fabric I was dying, which 1 bottle would have worked perfectly. After boiling 6 gallons of water, I added an extra 2 gallons of water because I didn't want my duvet cover to be too dark. Big mistake! I had to run and get my black rit dye and add some in to darken it. I was able to dye everything in a big plastic storage bin with a lid because I have a small immersion heater meant for coffee cups. If you are going to do this in a bucket make sure you do it in something with a lid and get a small immersion heater. This dye does not work unless you follow the instructions on the back of the bottle. That includes adding dish soap to the water and keeping the water at a minimum of 200°. You don't need color stay if you follow the instructions. I've never had rit dye bleed out of my dyed fabric. No wonder people have such a hard time dying clothes and keeping the dye in the fabric.

Dye anything
I redid my entire house of curtains with this brand and I’m thankful I did. The colors came out just as I needed.

works for dying acrylic yarn
I dyed 1 lb. of regular ol' acrylic yarn. I had to use double what the directions said but it is definitely the best/easiest out there for dying acrylic. I used a whole bottle in 2 1/2 gallons water with 1 tsp dish detergent. To improve the performance when you dye acrylic you can add alcohol when you add the dye -BUT- turn off the burner before adding the alcohol or you will have a very large flaming shot. (Ask me how I know.) Alcohol boils at a lower temp than water and will boil off and can start on fire. The grey dye was very weak so I used a cup of alcohol. Don't use too much alcohol or it changes the texture of the yarn and makes it feel kind of straw-like. Different colors of dye behave differently. This grey doesn't get dark but the brown gets dark and fast - keep an eye on it. The brown only needed 1/2 the time and the normal amount. After a bit of time you may think because the water is still full of color that the dyebath is not exhausted, but it is. Add more dye, soap and maybe alcohol if whatever you're dying isn't dark enough.

Strange results when dyeing hard plastic
Got this for a gaming controller case dye project; the dye adheres nicely to the controller, but the colour is much more violet than I was expecting. I tried it with a few different pieces of scrap plastic, and it came out in a variety of different hues. Probably not the product's fault, this stuff is meant for CLOTHING, after all. I imagine the shade I'm looking for is possible, I just need to keep experimenting with other colours until I find one (or a combination) that works.

Waste of money- didn’t work
Don’t waste your money and time on this. The directions are all in imperial measurements (fluid oz and pounds) so not ideal and be warned that you will need a very large pot (I needed nearly 5 litres of water boiling on the hob to try to dye a lightweight dress). But the main issue is, despite following the directions precisely, there was zero change in the colour of the fabric. I even left it longer than the required time but still no change. I understand that synthetic fabric (in this case 100% polyester) do not take dye easily but this product is aimed at precisely that and did not deliver.

It worked great for my purposes
I needed to dye off white coveralls to a very light grey or blue For cosplay. Turned out my coveralls 65 % polyester and it was a challenge to dye it. I was asking questions all around amazon customers if dye work . I read a very helpful review below this particular dye, lady in Germany dyed polyester dress in washing machine and I just did same thing as she and it worked. I have bosh machine, there’s only one 90 degree cycle with prewash in 35 degrees, so I waited 30 minutes fo prewash to over then poured dye into detergent slot followed by approximately 2 liters of boiled water from kettle. At first I was afraid to overdye it so I used half of bottle , then I noticed color change7but not too drastically and figured I can add another half for perfect shade. I waited for washing cycle to end, washed again with 30 degrees easy care for 30 minutes. Result is perfect for me, pastel gray with blueish undertone, it dyed evenly and easy. I am very happy. Color is better than bottle shows, really frosty gray. Whole bottle covered 550 grams of clothes .

Not very dark.
Didn’t work at all. Tried to colour a gazebo canopy. Cream to grey. Not a good purchase. Canopy was 100% polyester but only gave it a slight tinge. Waste of time even following the instructions.

Waste of time!!
Totally wrecked my white outdoor cushions. Went on Ritdye website and followed instructions 100%. I am now left with so many shades of grey with a khacki base tone. Used 2 huge pots with exact measurements in both! Absolutely ruined my covers, dont bother!! So upset as I now cant use them at all and wasted £50, 3 hours of gas and my time. New covers would cost £500 so I thought this "polyester dye" was cheapest option. Wish I had left alone now. Please dont wreck your covers!!!
