Great product! A great investment especially to keep your family safe.

Have you ever heard of the phrase “hope for the best, prepare for the worst”? Our house was constructed in 2002 in Maryland and we had three AC powered smoke alarms that were 19 years old (which is not a good thing considering you are supposed to replace them every ten years). This left our family in a potentially dangerous situation: will our smoke alarms alert us when there’s a fire when every second counts to get out of the house? The solution: I decided to purchase three of the Kidde P4010 DCSCO-W Wire Free Interconnect smoke alarm units for our home and family for Christmas. I was very excited to get the products because of the features that were listed in the description and I thought it was worth the money to “renovate” our units to a newer version. Upon receiving the product, I showed my family the box that had these new units. Then after New Year’s my father and I took down our old units. We then connected the new units wirelessly and installed each one on each floor. Connection and installation was very simple and it only took us about 15 to 20 minutes to install. You don’t even have to re-wire the units as they can wirelessly communicate with each other. Now, the testing. After we had installed the units, we conducted a test of our connection system to see if it worked out. The good news is that when you push the test/hush button, a female voice announcement warns you that the alarm is very loud, and it will give you a five second countdown in case you want to press the button again to cancel the test. This was useful during installation as we accidentally hit the button at one point. After the five second countdown, you first will hear the smoke alarm sequence which consists of three loud beeps (and yes, I mean very loud, about 85 dB), followed by a pause and then the voice will announce “Fire, fire!” Then another set of three beeps sound to complete the “fire” stage of the test. After the second time the smoke alarm pattern sounds, the alarm then moves to the carbon monoxide testing stage. This consists of four quick beeps, followed by the voice announcing, “Warning. Carbon monoxide.” After that, you get another sequence of four short beeps (which is the carbon monoxide signal). After this stage, the voice announces that the test in concluded which puts all of the connected units back in normal operating condition. Two,other great features are a photoelectric sensor, which detects slow smoldering fires faster, such as those that might start from your furniture or electrical system. Also, if an actual alarm is activated, you can temporarily silence the alarm as long as there is not too much smoke or CO, at which case you will not be able to silence the alarm. If alarm conditions still exist after being in hush mode for eight minutes, the units will go into alarm again. These units also run on a sealed lithium battery that is supposed to last up to a maximum of 10 years. I know some folks are weary about their units chirping at the wrong time of day so unless the unit is defective, that problem should be eliminated. You also don’t have to worry about remembering when to replace the batteries. However, just because the units are designed to last up to 10 years does NOT automatically guarantee your safety in the event of a fire. While the instructions recommend testing your alarms on a weekly basis, we have made a plan to test them on a certain weekend each month. Just make sure you test your alarms by hitting the test button, and if everything is good, you should be all set. Overall, I would highly recommend this product and would buy again in the future. Despite the pricing, safety always comes first. I especially like the voice announcement features in case young children have trouble knowing how to react in the event of an emergency. It is definitely worth the money and it could save a life in an emergency. I would give this product five out of five stars. I am so happy with my purchase.

Amazon not authorized seller according to Kidde?

So apparently until Kidde directly clears this up, do not buy through Amazon, only a spot such as a major box store retailer etc. as per a rep from the contact number at Kidde. I purchased multiple Kidde products at the same time from Amazon, multiple types of smoke and some also carbon alarms. I made a purchase of 2 of this interconnected device and made a decision to not interconnect them. One of the devices had been a nuisance issue item since purchase. The last few days in particular the device has been shouting out that it lost its connection. All attempts at resetting have failed. I called Kidde and spoke to someone that was grouchy which did not help my mood. They suggested something that did not happen to work to hopefully trigger the device into thinking it was new and fully reset. After that failed attempt I called back, spoke with another grouchy person who ultimately told me that because this was bought through Amazon that they would not help me - that Amazon is NOT an authorized dealer and the device warranty is not valid. I'm really angry right now needless to say. $60 out 1.5 months into having bought this. All the others are so far working well, things happen, devices do sometimes fail and I was stunned at the response. I was EXTREMELY grateful that I then spoke with Amazon directly and they decided to refund my money with a return of the detector in question.

Customer service relations need to be better.

I had this product for 4 months and the battery was supposed to last 10 years. I started having fault codes within the first 3 weeks, doing what the troubleshoot guide told me to do, now finally it’s coming up with “low battery”. It may be a defective battery, it happens. I bought 2 others at the same time and they are working fine. My problem with this is the customer service. I get a person on the phone that I can barely understand, it sounded to me that the CS person just wanted to send me to the manufacturer for the manufacturer to deal with it. After arguing with the CS person for almost 30 minutes, I finally got a CS manager on the phone that I could understand a little better. After arguing with her about sending me a new unit with the return label and paperwork for the return, I would then put the defective unit in the box and return it (reminding that you do have my credit card number so you would be able to bill it if I failed to return it). When all this is finally cleared up, the CS manager seemed to get an attitude as we were hanging up.

Impressed that replacement device purchased four years later works with the old units

After one of the alarms faulted and started chirping every 30 seconds and showed an amber alarm I turned the device off permanently and bought a replacement. I am impressed that four years after installing these units a replacement device works with the existing units and I was able to setup the wireless connectivity by resetting all units and setting up from scratch. The unit that faulted was in our bonus room which can get very hot. These units are only rated up to 100 F and during a recent heat wave I believe the unit was damaged by heat with several days over 100 F. Our bonus room is rarely occupied or air conditioned.

Waiting for new one

We received this product on 2/12/20 and it stopped working one month later. It is suppose to be a 10 battery life. We contacted the company and they first responded with directions on how to reset. We did what they said and the battery said "Replace smoke detector". So much for a 10 year Lithium Battery. I have since sent them another email and they have yet to responded. I asked for a replacement Smoke Detector. I will change my review if they follow through. This was a $50 item, I would expect a much better product. Very disappointed. We were finally contacted and they are sending us a new one. Thank you. We probably just got a defective one.

Too easy to go off

It went off during the launady. And I can't turn it off. There is no instructions on the user manual to turn off the alarm during false alarm. And no caution how to prevent this type of false alarm.

Worked great for 1 year less a day.

Purchased two of these a year and a day ago. They both connected great, and tested perfect every week for the past year (as recommended in the user manual) Last night at 3am one malfunctioned and set both off. I am thrilled they work and wake the house up, however it would not clear and there was no smoke to be found. I ended up having to disable the one, rendering it permanently useless. Very expensive unit to only work one year, A little disappointed.
