Makes a great indention in hard metal to guide drill bits for drilling holes!

I like that you can adjust the spring tension in order to control the indention depth for drill bit guidance.

A punch makes more than a pin-prick mark

Not sure if this is a knock-off, but it does not punch, as a punch should. It makes a mark the size of a needle which isn't very useful

I've used it a few dozen times since I got it and it operates consistently and puts the indent where iI want it on thin and thick steels

Weakest center punch I’ve ever seen!

I think with a pen tube, compression spring from a McDonald’s toy, and the needle from a disposable syringe I could create an automatic center punch that is comparable in performance.

Good for castle nuts.

Cranked the tension up to stake castle nuts. Takes a bit of practice, but it’s a bit faster than a punch and hammer.

There were 3 models with different push requirements on Amazon. I bought one and then ended up getting all three. I guess that means I like this punch!

Perfect for marking soft metals.

I have two of these automatic punches the 5 1/4" and the 3/4", they both punch without fail, the 3/4 is designed for leaving a small dimple in soft metals like thin copper(roofing copper), Aluminum, mild steel(24 gauge and thinner), ETC. . so it is better to know this before ordering the 3/4". Use the 51/4" for marking thick stainless steel, mild steel flat rod, plates, or all heavy gauge metals. UPDATE: this 3/4" punch failed after a few days, it does not reset after a single strike, I have to press it 4-5 times to get it to strike once, I bought the 3/4 based on my previous experience with the 5 1/4 punch which is still working flawlessly but this small one only worked for a few days and I had to return it.

Great for marking metals for drilling

What is there to say? Thing tool is awesome for indenting metal prior to drilling. Very clear indent which helps prevent the drill bit from running around. I also tried it on bricks as the unevenness can make drilling on them very difficult. Suffice to say it also worked on it. I would recommend this.

Quality tool

Hi Quality tool, love the adjustable impact setting. worth every cent, time will tell of the long gevety. this clearly stands out from all others I have looked at in the past. this tool is a keeper and expect to have many years in the future

Nice design, wish I bought a stronger one

Really comfortable and usable design. Be careful not to over tighten since it can be very difficult to undo with the upper forever being tucked inside the handle. Used it on steel junction box covers and the marks were quite minimal. It was just enough to work but would have preferred to have bought the next size up.

Brilliant.

Very good centre punch. Nice grip/hand protection? Strong punch use it everyday on metals. Highly recommended. Update March 5 2022 Over 4 years of everyday use now on stainless steel and all sorts of metals. Excellent. Way way better that the starett it replaced.
