The description could have been better.
We thought the adjustment for the vibration was external. It is not easy to change the vibration. The unit is fine.

Instruction Booklet Needed
Construction quality and function is excellent with this unit, very durable, and, great that it can handle stainless steel pins. The limitation of this unit is that it comes without instructions which really surprised me since Raytech is the icon of the vibratory tumblers. Yes there is a "The Art and Science of Mass Finishing" book by Sam Thompson included but it discusses overall concepts not details on how to use a vibratory tumbler. End result was I jumped in with green plastic pyramid media working on a handful of rusty bolts. After an hour, I stopped the tumbler to find the media quite warm and melting onto the bolts, what a mess. Next day I called Raytech customer serviced, which was great, and learned that plastic media must have water or cleaning solution lubricant to reduce the friction and prevent melt down while the rubbing action does the cleaning/polishing. Only dry media to use is corn cobs, not even walnut shells should be used dry as they need polishing compound, like Dry Shine III, to work properly. Sure would have been nice to have that level of instruction with the vibratory tumbler. Took bench grinder wire wheel to remove the plastic coating off my handful of bolts which negated the need for the vibratory tumbler. Oh well, learned a hard lesson, have applied the instructions freely given by tech service and now am a happy vibratory tumblor. Adjusting the vibratory intensity is a plus as different media's need to be vibrated at different levels to make them work efficiently; this tumbler has an easily adjustable feature. The AV-18 is 5 stars but without the supplemental instructions which should be provided by Raytech automatically, I feel 4 stars is just.

Failed after 5 hours of use
This is my second purchase of the same item. The first unit died after 3 years of light use with several broken welds and a broken motor bracket. The motor bracket cracked off one a 90 degree bends. The second unit over heated after a few hours use and stopped with a burned plastic smell. I expected more from an “industrial” polisher. UPDATE - Raytech was super responsive on the issue and is sending a new motor assembly

Why doesn’t this thing have an on/off switch?
I use this tumbler for finishing 3D printed pieces. The quality of the tumbler is excellent and works as described. Instruction manual came in the box and explains everything you need to know on polishing media. However, there are a few quirks with this product that I don’t really understand: 1) it doesn’t have an on/off switch for some reason (I guess because it’s intended to stay on for very long periods of time) 2) it doesn’t have a timer integrated into the machine ( I guess for the same reason as in 1) I can’t imagine adding either of these two features would cost much nowadays, especially given the close to $500 price tag. I have seen cheaper vibratory tumblers on the market with the above. I’m hoping this will last me a lifetime. Now I need to find me a good timer on/of switch.

Great tool, priced way too high!!
Good tool, but is definitely overpriced. There are better values for equivalent or better vibratory tumblers. At this price point I would look elsewhere, Harbor Freight, Eastwood etc.
