The absolute best thing to drill into ceramic tile!
We were adding safety rails for an aging parent, and the first time bought the recommended bit (you know the one--it's sold right next to the safety rails in certain stores) to use. While we eventually got the rail up, that bit made a rather simple project take 3+ hours due to having to drill through some thick ceramic bathroom tile. THIS BIT, however, had the first hole drilled within 2 minutes, and the remaining rails installed within a half hour! I cannot say enough good things about this Dewalt bit!!! I only wish we'd had it from the beginning. From now on, to drill into tile, this us our go-to drill bit.

Probably the best tool for the job, but the job sucks.
I bought this to make four holes in the tile wall behind my kitchen range for a magnetic rack. Even using the tape trick, I had a lot of difficulty getting the holes to start, and keeping the bit from walking. I eventually had great results using 2-3 pieces of duct tape with a 1/4" hole pre-drilled through it placed over another piece of duct tape marking the location to be drilled, drilling the "marker" tape with a standard 1/4" bit to scratch up the surface of the tile, and finally switching to this bit for the main task. I kept a glass of ice water and a toothpick nearby to cool and clean out the bit after about every 20 seconds of drilling with a firm pressure on the back of the drill. I wasn't too worried about burning up the bit as I knew I only needed 4 holes and hope to never drill tile again, but it still seemed functional at the end of the task. After getting through the tile I switched back to the standard 1/4" bit to clean out the hole and finish drilling whatever was behind it. After the holes were made I hammered in "TOGGLER ALLIGATOR AF6 Flanged Anchor with Screws" and used the screws it included instead of the tiny ones included with the shelf. Honestly the TOGGLERs were the best part of the job, they went in easy, didn't crack the tiles and feel rock solid. As painful as the process was, the shelf is up, looks professional and the only evidence of how much cursing it took is in the minds of the children. It should be noted that most of my experience in home improvement is as a "helper" growing up, so your results may be less painful if you are an experienced "doer". Expect it to take a long time, and don't put pressure on yourself to rush. CHECK AFTER EVERY HOLE - The hole may not start exactly where you want it - make sure with shelves and such that the next hole will fit in the location you marked before starting! (I would have been in big trouble if I hadn't) Good luck!

Drilled hole in a 4' x 5' mirror that was mounted on the wall.
We're doing some work in our bathroom. We had a large mirror installed and needed to change were we had planned to install a light (LED). This required a hole in the mirror. The glass company said it would be cheaper to have a new mirror made (because of the cost of picking up the existing one. So I decided to drill a hole myself. I would have liked a 1" hole but I could get by with a 3/8' hold. (I was too unsure of the process to try an 1" hole.) I setup a water drip above the location for the hole. I used a piece of wood about the size of a 4" piece of paint stirrer. I drilled a hole in the wood piece using the diamond bit. I used double tape to hold the wood piece on the mirror, this would be my starting guide. I took my time to drill the hole, using very light force and a slow speed. It probably took me 10 to 15 minutes of actual drill time. I stopped a few times to rest and insure I didn't get impatient and apply extra pressure. The hole came out perfect! I then continued through the drywall behind the mirror. I now have a hole I can run the wires through. The fixture will be held by two 4" pieces of 3M VHB tape, however I will have a "safety" wire connected to the fixture and the wall in case the tape fails. A side note: I purchased the same drill but in 5/16" to install our shower doors. I had to drill 4 holes in 3/8" thick Porcelain tiles (very hard). When I received this drill I compared it to the old one and saw little difference indicating little wear after the drilling the Porcelain. I would highly recommend this product.

It will take several minutes to drill through just one 1'4 inch tile but the end result is perfect. 2
I recently tiled a new shower stall and needed this to drill through the porcelain tiles to secure the mounting hardware for the glass walls. A few tips 1. Be patient. Don't rush and don't push. Just keep firm pressure and let the bit do the work. It will take several minutes to drill through just one 1'4 inch tile but the end result is perfect. 2. Keep the end of the bit wet. Just like using a regular wet saw to cut the tiles this bit needs to stay wet to stay cool. You will get a better hole and extend the life of the bit I just held a damp sponge above the bit and squeezed a lit water on the bit every so often to keep it wet 3. This is probably the biggest tip. Make yourself a template to keep the bit from walking across the tile on you.Porcelain is very hard and usually very slick. It is nearly impossible to simply put this bit against the tile and start drilling without it walking to the right. To solve this I took a 6 inch piece of scrap 1x4 and used a regular wood bit to drill a 1'4 inch hole in middle of it. I then held that piece flat against the wall and inserted the diamond bit into the hole. I was able to hold my template piece with my left hand and my drill in my right. This kept the bit stationary long enough to get a nice circle groove started in the tile. I was then able to remove the template and just keep the diamond bit in the groove. It worked great.

Need a rechargeable drill
Worked perfectly to drill 2 holes on a porcelain tile attached to the wall. Super happy with results. But only 2 holes so don't know how many you can do. Very important : the instructions call for a variable speed rechargeable drill. I had to rent one. This should be mentioned in the description.
