Ours failed due to water intrusion. Luckily no damage was done to the electronics of our motorhome. To the company's credit, after sending pics of the unit with water draining from it, they replaced it free of charge. Hopefully the new one won't suffer the same fate.

Paying for what you get isn’t always true...

The media could not be loaded. Purchased May 2020 to use toward our brand new 2020 grand design momentum 399TH. This product was highly recommended. We used it for the first time in July for me and my husbands bday vacation at Big River Oak RV resort. We followed all the directions, watched YouTube videos, read everyone’s Q&A, and read all the reviews prior to usage. We were very disappointed that it did not work. We got the error codes no matter which method we used. We made sure the power unit switch was turned off, then plugged in the protector, turned the switch on to let it test but still got an error code. No power to our RV at all. Maybe it works too well??? We couldn’t go with no power throughout our 5 day stay so we were forced to plug directly with no protection. We thought about returning it but figured we’d give it another try at another reservation we had for this Labor Day weekend at La Havienda RV resort. Same result ...and now we are past our return time frame and stuck with an expensive surge protector we can’t even use. Our only option now is to contact the manufacturer directly and see what we are doing wrong or if it’s a faulty. It’s still under warranty so I’m hoping that is the case...fingers cross. I will update this review if something can be done. OCT 2020 UPDATE: We were finally contacted by a Tech from Progressive and he helped us figure out why our surge protector was not working. All we had to do was wait 2-3 minutes after plugging it in and what do u know...it worked! After all this time! Unfortunately this was not included in the instructions. None of the YouTube videos we’ve watched had this suggestion either. The model we purchased was the EMS-PT50X. So anyone who purchased this protector and has come across the same issue...just be patient and wait 2-3 min is the key. We can now have peace of mind that our RV is protected. The last photo shows the protector working. So far so good...

Quits working with no indication

On the plus side, As far as I know, this unit has been protecting my trailer. And Progressive customer service did respond to my initial query, so that is very good. However, it quit outputting power without any obvious indication. As a result, my batteries were drawn down past the level where they become damaged. Once I realized what had happened, I was able to cycle power to the EMS and it resumed outputting. It seems like it would be simple enough to add an indicator light/LED to show power is being output. That way, you could at least know to conserve your batteries or at least bypass the EMS if necessary. As it is now, you have to notice that the display shows zero amps, which requires you to watch through the full sequence of readings and error codes. An LED would give you at-a-glance information. I have extension cords that have such a light - surely Progressive could figure out how this is done! It would also be interesting to know why the EMS quit outputting power. After reading about this on several forums, it is apparently not an unusual occurrence.

This unit has saved our electrical system twice!

We had another cheaper unit, but when a power spike occured at the campground, it did not save us and our brand new computer got fried. We bought this unit instead and it has saved us at least twice. Last time we could see on the display, that the voltahe between the two hot phases varied between 30v up to 240V (and it did its job and shut off the power toour rig. The power company came our and I showed him this fluctuation in voltage. That was a huge help to him and he immediately stated - there has to be a bad neutral. Sure enought -that was exactly the problem. This unit i so worth the money - we have experienced the cost of having a cheap unit that doesn't protect you.

Expensive, but worth it.

This unit was very easy to set up and use. Plug it in to the pedestal, let it run its tests. Once it gives you E0 ( no errors), turn off the power, plug your shore power cable into the surge protector and turn the power back on. Constantly monitoring and will cut off power if there is a surge, or if the voltage drops to a dangerous level. This will protect your air conditioners from damage caused by running on too little voltage. Pricey unit, but compare the features of this vs the $100-200 ones before chosing.

Not CSA approved. Not permitted for use in Ontario.

Well made, highly rated product. As it is not CSA approved it will not be allowed if your site is inspected by a utility employee. Most campgrounds maintain their own grid but this municipal campground won't allow it.

As an alternative to direct wiring in your RV this is one of the best on the market.

I use this protector for my new RV. The only problem that I can see is that it could be stolen when you were away from your site. So I have a bicycle cable lock to secure it to the power post to solve that problem.
