Absolute Junk!

Just got this today & tried to use it on a brand new Suntour fork with a cro-moly tube. I though it was a good idea since I didn't really know what stack height I wanted as I knew the bike geometry would change when I went from the old solid fork on my Specialized Hardrock which has only been riden about 10 times since new (was my spare). I thought that I'd start with the full stem then cut down as required, so it would be easy to get out when I wanted to. Well, it went in the tube slick & started to expand as advertised, but once I got to tensioning the headset it started to get looser. I tried for 2 hours to get it to tension, but it never did. What I found out was that since it's plastic(or polymer??)with no bite, it just was slowly pulling out instead of tightening. Maybe it would work on a carbon tube, but I doubt it! Talk about dangerous too! If that baby slid out while you were doing something serious it would be big trouble! Don't even try it, 'cos it will cost more to send it back than it's worth! Junk, junk, junk!

Handy little gadget...

I ride recumbent and my derailleur stem has a regular plastic cap, I got this and used it with the Delta Cycle Corp Bike Computer Caddy (just replaced the cap with the caddy). However I did have to put a piece of innertube over the expansion nut, it would not quite expand out enough to grip inside my derailleur stem (1in ID). not sure why, but with the piece of tube over it, it works great. I would recommend it.

Does the job at a great price.

This worked great for tightly seating my stem on the steerer tube. I have a “Stem Captain” clock, so once I got the stem set the way I wanted it, I removed this and put the clock back on. I’m keeping it in my toolbox for future use when needed.

Not so durable

Lightweight and great looking but after some months they will start loosing pressure, you right them up and then there's a point where the internal system fails. Happened twice to me.

A great upgrade part.

This is a great part to upgrade the crappy one that comes stock on low to mid level bikes these days. Feels very solid, unlike the star thing that most bikes come with. A must if you are over 150lbs like me. That star thing is just not solid enough for someone who weighs a little more than the average rider. My stock part would creek and squeek every time I went hard at it and it finally broke.

It claims to be useful for 1 1/8 and 1 inch fork steerers

Really quite bummed about this. I installed it as a replacement when I got a Chinese carbon frame, I had some issues getting enough tension to keep the headset from wiggling when I held the front brake. It claims to be useful for 1 1/8 and 1 inch fork steerers, but if you have an 1 1/8 inch you might look elsewhere. I ended up swapping for one at an lbs, but not after this one started to work itself loose and blew up my top headset bearing.
