Works great, need check valve, airline tubing, and possibly control valve with extra valve(s)
Works great for my first aquarium air pump. I needed to lower the flow a little bit, as my young betta was getting thrown around pretty good when she entered the stream of bubbles being projected upwards from my mini sponge filter. I have it on a 5.5 gallon tank. If you are going to control the flow, you need a control valve, and in the instructions they recommend having one with an extra open valve to be a "bleeder valve" that releases excess pressure (simply restricting the air flow with a control valve WITHOUT a bleeder valve supposedly causes strain on the air pumps diaphragm which can rupture and break it). I had to add a air stone and a bit of tubing to my bleeder valve to quiet the hiss, but after adjusting the control valve, the bleeder valve, and installing a check valve (to ensure water won't be siphoned into the pump in the event of a power outage), it is working great. With my control valve making the bubbles as minimal as possible, my betta can swim freely through the entire tank. I might try the same setup on my 2.5 gallon tanks eventually.

I would recommend it, but if this setup is not possible
I'm only giving 4 stars because I don't believe this pump is as strong as advertised. It will run a small air Stone or sponge filter, but unfortunately it is not strong enough to do so when using a check valve, which I believe is important to use on all pumps in case of failure. This can be managed, however, by ensuring the pump is set up above the water level, therefore ensuring that a power outage or other failure will not create a siphon and eliminating the need for a check valve. If using this pump in that way, I would recommend it, but if this setup is not possible, please be advised to purchase a larger pump.

It’s not that loud. The bubbles it makes are louder!
It’s really not that loud. People that say this is loud are spoiled. The bubbles that rise and pop at the surface of the water is where the bulk of the noise comes from. For $5 it’s pretty good. You have to buy your own air line, but it’s easy to find on here or Walmart and it’s cheap and easy to cut to fit and install. I wish this pump came with some small plastic suction cup mounts to anchor down your air line with so it’s not floating around where it wants to.

Great power, but more noise than I like to hear.
It works and pushes a lot of air for the size of the one I bought, but I am very picky about noise and you can't get silent for $6. Great customer service. I will definitely keep it as a back up though.

Works great and got for less than $2 in a deal !!
The media could not be loaded. Works great. Good suctions pressure , atleast in my 10 gallons tank. Also best part is that I got for less than $2 in a deal one day. Had no plans to install air pump in aquarium but could resist myself and bought this due to such a low price. Great product though.

Good for the $ but it hums
Not the quietest little thing but they don't say silent operation.... they just say its quiet. Granted for $4 you cannot complain. If you had this inside a cabinet or a tank stand then I can see this as being quiet enough. But by placing this on a desk next to the tank this will give off a constant hummmmmm like a phone on vibrate wrapped in a hand towel. Its about the size of a computer mouse and does not come with air hose.
