Huge step up from the A360
This is my third fitness watch, after a Garmin Vivoactive and when it lasted less than a year replaced it with a Polar A360. I bought the A360 even though it was a huge step down from the Vivoactive because a) I had less money to spend and b) it was the only watch near that price point that claimed good HR monitoring in the water. The Garmin gave up in the water and just turned the HR monitor off when swimming. Because of some heart worries HR tracking during all physical activity was a requirement. I recently had enough spare cash to upgrade my A360 and after a lot of research decided to go with the Ignite. It seemed like the best combination of the two - the Polar HR functionality combined with better tracking of sports and a built-in GPS. My biggest worry was that I wasn't too happy with the companion app, the Polar Flow. It literally tracked just HR for all sports - the only difference between sports was the icon displaying the sport on the watch and the app. Fortunately I needn't have worried. When you switch watches, the app changes what it can display, and now Polar Flow is showing laps and distance for pool swimming, and distance and a map for biking/running/walking. The good: HR tracking for all sports is accurate enough for my uses. It generally matches the readout on whatever piece of cardio equipment I'm using (+/- 3 BPM), and when I'm in the pool the exertion level feels consistent with the HR readout. When biking I love being able to match my HR to the leg of the ride I'm on. When I'm boxing, the watch doesn't "accidentally" shut off on the back of my glove like the Garmin did (this drove me crazy!). The okay: Really my only complaint is that this watch still doesn't accurately track lap counts when swimming. If you are using a paddleboard just forget it - it's looking for arm movements to track laps. It still undercounts my regular laps, too. Also, it's supposed to be able to discern between the stroke, but always tells me my backstroke laps are breast stroke (which I don't even do). The Garmin had the same problem. Otherwise I'm really happy with it. I haven't tried the training functions yet as my workouts are heavily influenced by my physical therapy requirements, but everything else works just as well as I need it to. Fitness level: active but not competitive Frequency: 4-6 times per week, mix of gym cardio, boxing, cycling and swimming.

Accurate HR - Very Good Features - Extensive Data
After nearly 3 months of use, I'm very pleased with the Ignite. Most importantly, the HR tracking is ACCURATE. I compared the data over the first month with a Polar Chest Strap H10, and the excellent comparison led me to retire the H10. Yay - one less item to worry about batteries and Bluetooth. The strengths of the Ignite include the HR tracking, larger variety of workout types (e.g., indoor cycle), extensive array of sleep tracking data and analyses, and general appearance. The Ignite needs to be charged about every 2nd day depending on usage but it recharges quickly. It's not perfect - I wish the alarm function was more flexible in allowing different day settings and the syncing does have to be initiated manually which takes a couple of mins. And the sleep tracking can be fooled if one stays awake for more than a few mins overnight. However the wealth of data on the watch, on the app, and online in Polar Flow is astounding. I've added a couple of screenshots of the online app to show a small portion of what's available. Due to Covid-19 we have not traveled so I don't know how the system handles time zone changes. Trips used to absolutely blowup the cheapo tracker and software that I used prior to the Ignite. I'm guessing it would be fine. I spent many months reading reviews of various devices and I am very pleased about choosing the Ignite.

I'm really disappointed with this product
It seems like the Polar Ignite was not designed by a runner! I'm not sure why the default for the screen is to go to sleep after 5 or so seconds when you are exercising.. When I am running I want constant feedback by glancing down at my watch. Now when I glance down, there is nothing but a black screen. It appears that the only way you can bypass this is to lock the screen and turn the back light on. However, you can only do this when AFTER you have started the stopwatch. So if you are timing yourself, you either have to stand still and do this after you have started the timer or try and do it when you are running, which is virtually impossible to do. Is there some kind of work around I am missing??!! Basically you lose about 10 seconds if you are trying to record a time....because you have to fiddle about with the settings. The screen is also way too dark. Can it be adjusted? It does not appear so. The screen is hard to see during the day when you are running. (While you can lock the screen. When you are in running mode, it always defaults to unlocked. You must change it every time you start the timer). The touch screen does not work very well. Sometimes it takes two or three swipes. The design of the watch interface is just not intuitive. I will be returning this product.

A really good fitness tracker!
The Polar Ignite does a lot more than I expected. It is more than a FitBit, less than an Apple Watch which is right where I wanted it to be. The GPS works really well for bike rides and, surprisingly, lap swimming. I wear it pretty much all the time and end up charging it every other day from around 30% remaining - it does charge very quickly though. I have verified the heart rate with an external SpO2 meter and the numbers agree very well. As for cons, the touch display is a bit laggy but not aggravatingly so. Also, water on the display in the shower will emulate touch events. One change I'd like to see is a night time dimmer mode, or alternatively a small time display on a black background during the "sleep hours" because in the middle of the night it seems very bright. I really like this watch - as an already active person it tracks my activity, sleep and etc. in surprising and insightful ways. It pairs with the Polar website to allow you to plot all your data and see your trends. If you are already active and are looking for a good fitness tracker, this is a good candidate.

Great Overall Fitness Watch
As someone looking for an entry level fitness watch, this watch has been perfect. Great functionality for work out tracking, step counting and sleep tracking. The watch looks great, is comfortable and overall performs very well. The interaction (syncing) with devices (i.e. phone with Polar App and Polar H10 chest strap) has not been as seamless and user friendly as I would have preferred, and the 'swiping/touching' actions while interfacing with the watch screen are not the best. These are minor though and I do not regret my purchase. I truly enjoy the watch, but I gave it 4/5 starts for the two issues mentioned above.

Amazing!
I'm already a fan of Polar products, I have been for years, I purchased the Vantage V when it was first released and did the same with the Ignite. I've spent this week getting used to the Ignite, it's a touch screen like the Vantage V, but with fewer buttons, one to be precise. The watch was easy to set up and synced with my Flow account seamlessly. There were a few updates to do, but that didn't take very long. The touch screen performs really well and I love the screen colours and brightness with the watch coming to life when I turn my wrist to look at the screen or touch the watch face or button. The Ignite Optical heart rate sensors look the same as on my Vantage V and it picks up my heart rate just as quickly. The sleep stages are a lot more detailed on the Ignite compared to what I'm used to on the Vantage V though, but having read some on-line reviews, it looks like these sleep stages will also be added to my Vantage V in a future software update. After a few days I started to get more scores associated with how well I'd been sleeping and how recharged my body was, I love this feedback - well done Polar!! Of course I also know my body well and if I'm feeling refreshed from sleep or not, but it has been really good to see the Ignite offering the details relating to how much time I've spent in each of the sleep stages and how 're-charged' I am the next morning. I'm looking forward to using the Fitspark functions at the weekend with a cardio workout and then seeing my sleep and re-charge scores the following day. Fitspark isn't available on my other Polar devices so I'm intrigued to see how this will work, it definitely looks like some of the available exercises in the planned routines are going to give me a real challenging workout, which I will love. There's also something called serene breathing, I've followed the onscreen instructions in bed at night before settling down to sleep and I have to say I do feel more relaxed and ready for sleep after doing the breathing exercises. Lastly I've reviewed some of the regular routes I've ran in my Polar flow account, the GPS on the Ignite so far has been good, with great connectivity even under the dense canopy of trees on one of my favourite routes. All in all, this is a fabulous device, with many new features that I'm really enjoying using and the price is great too.

Great little watch
I bought the Polar Ignite primarily to track my swimming laps and it does this brilliantly. It is very precise, down to even telling you what stroke you were doing and this makes me very happy. The only drawback I could mention with it is the sleep program. I can't seem to get to grips with it, it either records too much sleep or not enough. This is mostly my own fault as i havent read the manual on how this aspect of the watch works. For everything else though I give it a 10/10. Well worth the money. Also having bought several other smart watches that proclaimed to be the same thing, this one IS actually waterproof!!

Invasive!!
In order to use the app that is associated with this product you must agree to let them use your personal information (heart rate, sleep patterns, etc..) for whatever they want. You must let them share it with third parties outside of your country. If you chose not to allow them to own all of your personal information then you lose most of the functions that the watch is for. ZERO RESPECT OF YOUR PRIVACY.

Don't believe the negative online reviews - this is a PERFECT watch ! (well, nearly perfect !)
Don't believe all the negative reviews, I purchased this after a lot of online research. I'm not a fitness fanatic, and before the Ignite I wasn't even wearing a watch, but wanted something which gave me a nudge / reminder to get up and do some exercise (I lead a sedentary lifestyle, though I am pretty fit - 56yrs, 5'9, 75Kgs, BF16%). I was going to hold off until I could get a Samsung Active 2 with my phone upgrade, but read enough about how inaccurate its HRT monitoring was (as well as its GPS) that I decided I wanted more of a fitness watch than something on my wrist that'd literally double up as a phone (because I've already got my phone for that, right ?). I also didn't want to pay too much for my first fitness watch as I believe this is still quite a moving technology and new/better ones will be coming out all the time. Finally, I was more steered towards Polar because I have had Garmin products before and didn't like their software. Polar have been in the HRT monitor space the longest (as far as I know) and felt if anyone could produce a great fitness watch, they'd be the favourite. So far, I've had it a week and absolutely no complaints ! Well, okay, a few improvements I'd personally like :) 1) The strap is a) too rubbery/grippy, and b) the strap loop keeps sliding down each time you try to put the watch on. a) + b) = A very frustrating experience every time you try to put the watch on, since to slide that loop up once the watch is on your wrist is very difficult to do since the rubber material is too grippy, preventing you doing so without a few blue words during it...... (I’ve since superglued the strap loop permanently in place and so have eliminated the above mentioned frustration). 2) The watch face is switched off until you bring the watch up to your face to look at it. That is fine except that this only works when you're in the upright position (either sitting or standing is fine). Try bringing the watch up to your face when you're lying down or in bed and you’ll find the watch face will not wake up.... it's as though the orientation of the watch is what is important to it, not that you're making a sudden movement with your arm to wake it up. 3) You have a choice of analogue or digital watch faces, one of each. That's fine, but when you choose the analogue face, the face I prefer, then the watch hands obscure the health data and information. If you choose the digital face, no obscuring takes place. It's a shame that Polar didn't design TWO positions for that data, one for the digital version of the watch, and another for the analogue version. Other than that, I'm completely satisfied with my Ignite watch, I've had NONE of the issues I've read in online reviews elsewhere, no issues with it measuring my sleep within the first three nights, no issues with the software, the GPS is accurate (I tried it on a local walk I do every other day) and the data itself is very useful. If you're a fitness fanatic, take your marathons and training very seriously, then you probably want a more sophisticated and accurate device - and for that you’ll need to pay two or three times the price of a Polar Ignite. But for those of us who want a watch mainly for fitness, aren't fanatical about that, and don't want smartphone features, this watch is not only perfect in my view, it is also VERY attractive on the wrist. A great purchase decision !
