Nice but, in my opinion, not worth the price.

Hello, This is review is for the medium sized unit. Overall, this is great for my needs, but there are a few considerations. There are plastic tags left over from the injection molding process. I had to shave them off with a hobby knife to make everything open and close smoothly. This includes the plastic compartment dividers. The metal rods in the hinges were sticking out and needed to be tapped back into place. I used a screwdriver handle because I didn’t want to risk cracking anything. They went in easily and haven’t come loose since. It’s a nice storage case but it isn’t something that will take a lot of abuse. If your intention is travel and you need something durable, this probably isn’t for you. But if your plan is, for example, home use and you won’t be moving it a lot you should be fine. Just be mindful of how much weight you’re putting in it. If it feels like it might be too heavy, it probably is. So, I would be careful moving it if you have it weighted down with gear. I don’t think it would last very long. There aren’t enough divider pieces to truly subdivide all the spaces. If you were hoping to divide the trays into several small compartments, this might not be for you. Summary: Would I buy it again? The answer is probably not. As I said it’s a nice piece of kit, but it just isn’t durable enough to warrant the current price. The trays themselves are fine. It’s the case itself that seems a bit too flimsy for heavy use, but it should be fine for light use. I use it to store a few light tools and soldering related items. It stays on my bench and won’t be moved often. You must do a bit of finishing work like the hinge rods and trimming the injection molding tags. There doesn’t seem to be much quality control in the manufacturing process. It’s a convenient storage case but it is, in my opinion, overpriced. For this price to be warranted, I would expect better quality and more durability. I think there are better options at this price point. I ordered one of these because they were on sale. But I think that $40 is too much to pay for this. It works for my needs, but you should consider how you plan on using it before you purchase. Also, I recommend looking around to see if there’s a better option for your intended use. The 3-star review is based on price versus quality. Thanks for your time. LLAP

Ideal for cleaning and transporting handmade glass

I discovered this tool box while looking for a more traditional tool box. While it is small, it is just about ideal for astoring everything I need to clean and prep glass beads which I make in my home studio. It has enough room for a Dremel, with a charger and 2 batteries, 3 sets of pliers as well as Dremel accessories and small hand tools. The lower portion contain 4 small cases with dividers, also ideal for storing and sorting beads once they have been cleaned. The box is small (note the pliers in the first picture for comparison. The pliers are on the large side, but the case is definitely much smaller than a traditional tool box. That also makes it ideal for people who need to transport a quantity of their work to shows, classes, conferences. I do still need to find a case for my larger tools, but when I saw this I knew it would work for organizing my glass cleaning tools which I do not typically use in my studio because it needs to be done under water. This makes it easy for me to move everything to a better location, once I have collected whater needs to be finished. My one and only issue with this set is that it comes with about 2/3 of the dividers required to use the small cases. I have to thank the reviewer who suggested using old credit cards, though they do not hold as well. At least it allows me to make efficient use of the space.... but why on earth did Plano not provide enough of these? They are small and inexpensive, and without them it is not possible to use those small boxes as well.. This is a great set for people who need to store and organize small things.... but that depends on having dividers for those plastic boxes.

Not Enough Dividers, Check Customer Images for Accurate Photos

Overall, this is a decent "toolbox" for light duty tasks. The door that holds the containers in appears to be the weakest part. I wouldn't trust it long-term to hold the containers in, especially not in a moving auto/boat unless it was very well secured. Included are one 23650-97, and two 23630-76 adjustable Pro-Latch StowAway containers. The latches on both are much better than those on Plano's standard StowAway containers. While not flimsy, I wouldn't call any of the hinges heavy duty. These containers are not waterproof, and definitely are not airtight, but they should hold in all but the tiniest of items. The 23650-97 includes 15 dividers, which is enough to fit every slot. The dividers fit very snugly. It is a "normal depth" container, while the other 2 are significantly deeper. The hinges on this one seem a little beefier than the other 2 containers. Each 23630-76 includes 5 dividers which is enough to fill exactly half of the slots. To clarify, there are 20 spots for dividers between the 2 containers, but only 10 dividers total. The dividers for these two containers have a good fit, but they are not snug like the smaller container. With the lid open, they easily slide up. With the lid closed, they are secure. Plano will not send more dividers, so this is not the box for you if you have numerous tiny components. I only discovered this after I was told Plano would send more dividers free of charge and they sent me an order form. They proceeded to send me some dividers for a totally different product. After following up with their customer service, this is the response I received: "We are sorry to inform you that the unit you are inquiring about does not have extra dividers that we can supply you with. When the product drops out of the mold during manufacturing, it only drops the amount that it is supposed to come with, no extras." While the 23650-97 and 23630-76 boxes have the same external length and width, they otherwise hardly resemble each other. It is almost as if they were designed by different companies. This isn't necessarily a good or bad thing, but it just seemed... odd to me. If you search the model numbers of each container on Plano's site, there are PDFs available which show you the dimensions of each compartment. There are a couple of typos in the measurements, but they are otherwise helpful. Being unable to get the extra dividers Plano originally promised to send, this StowAway system didn't meet my needs. I ended up returning it and purchasing different individual containers. I like the idea of a "toolbox" that holds multiple containers and has a bulk storage area on top, but this model could use a few improvements before I'd consider it again. If you look closely at the official Amazon photos, you should notice that the door is different in each photo. The one I received matched the photo with the door open. My small container did not match the one in that photo, however. The photos on Plano's site don't depict the correct small container either. I uploaded my own images to show exactly what I received.

A Portable Box for all Occasions.
