Seems sturdy
Very happy with new clam gun. Good quality, heavy metal. Can't wait to go clamming!

"Beginner" Clamming Gun
Bought 4/27/2021 As a first time clammer in California this is one of the recommended tools, aside from a shovel and bucket, that I thought would be useful so I tried it. I have used it once so far and it has held up great. I used it on beach from plain sand to seaweed embedded sand areas and even spots with stones/broken shells. Which in my opinion what some of the reviewers were probably complaining about it getting "scratched: or "damaged". If you are careful enough and actually use it correctly there should not be any problems. After 20+ tries I haven't had any issues with the clam gun. It is somewhat heavy but its to be expected since it is made of metal. If you want something lighter then a PVC or light/thinner metallic one would be better. It was easy to clean and definitely worth the money. As far as suction power it is hard to compare to the more expensive once since I haven't tried others but there are times due to wet sand it can lose suction which means you would have to dig again to clear what fell back in. I'll update this review the next time I use it. So far I would given it 4.5 stars at this time. Recommended product!

Short barrel
It's a good quality gun, but the barrel is very short. I had difficulty getting clams out of the sand without needing to drive an arm in after them. The pcv kind worked better on our trip.

Good product for razor clam
The clam gun is easy to use and good quality too for razor clam digging. Having fun with it.

Not really impressed.
I have no idea what we were doing wrong with this gun. Maybe it's defective? It works great for the first pull up, pulls every bit out, but consecutive pulls don't work. It seems to lose the suction and neither husband or myself could figure out why. We tried it with gloved hands and bare hands for plugging the hole on the handle, to no avail. Every single second dig down the same hole would lose the suction on the way up. I've watched a good amount of youtube videos, I see that clam guns can work well on second, third, even fourth consecutive digs in the same hole. Not this one. The pacific razors tend to be a way down, at least here in the type of sand we dig them in. This gun fails to dig deep enough because the suction breaks on the every pull up after the first. It completely defeats the purpose of digging razors, I'm better off starting with a small shovel, less work and I ended up having to hand dig every hole another 6-8 inches that was started with this thing anyway. I am giving it three stars instead of two for now because my son was able to use it for very shallow holes and pull up little necks with it. However, it takes practically zero effort to dig them with your hands in exposed bed. He did mange to get one streamer clam that wasn't damaged with this, they aren't as deep as the pacific razors and have a softer shell. They are difficult to dig because you have to be SUPER careful not to break them, this seemed to do OK with the one he found. I will have to try it for steamers at a different spot to see how it works. If it works well for steamers I will update my review accordingly. Overall, I'm not really happy with the way it performed, not one razor clam was pulled with this gun due to the lack of depth able to be achieved, which was due to loss of proper suction.

Rust after 1st use
Transitioned from a PVC gun thinking this will be more effective, lightweight, and durable long term. Neither of those were fulfilled, noticeably heavier but still manageable. Agree with other reviews that suction isn't the best on 2nd and subsequent digs. Worst of all this gun was used once for pm dig. I rinsed it prior to leaving the coast and wanted to do a more thorough cleanse next day but already noticed blotches of rust developing along the bottom and inner tube. Disappointed.

With Practice this will be great!
First time clamming on the Oregon Coast with this and it worked as described. The coating held up well and we did get some clams. We did unfortunately hit a few claims while digging which resulted in broken shells but with practice I am sure you can pretty well avoid that. It does take some effort to pull out, but that should be expected when you are pulling up wet sand.

First timer success
My girlfriend and I just used this last night and the night before. First time, we both caught half our limit and stopped due to no more success at finding anymore “shows”. Then last night we reached our limit. Clam guns (I bought both the blue and stainless) made it easy pulling sand out. We were doing doing a small rotation motion when digging it into the sand and it would keep a good suction when covering the hole. Sometimes I would have to dig the gun deeper to chase after the razor clams and it somewhat held a suction better than I thought (had to be fast cause it was practically water and sand when digging further down). That being said, very happy for the purchase. We’re from WA so it’s good to have these on deck.

Great digger
Worked as indicated, lost 1 star cause paint was ground off after first using for about 10 minutes. But this does not hinder how well it works. Well made, welds where nice and clean, no sharp edges, light enough to carry around easily.
